Yeah Ticoz – Great food, interesting culture. super strong drinks. I enjoyed it immensely.
It's alright if you like tex mex. – I have been there a few times and have tried several of their menu items. I am not too fond of much of their food it is just to tex mex for me and very gourmet. Guess I am just a mexican at heart and prefer simple and not overworked. One particular item I did not like was the rolled chicken tacos. I would expect to receive flautas but I received a chicken tender with a sliver of chicken wrapped in a flour tortilla, (a chicken tender burrito wrap. ) WTF! I complained that it was not what I thought I ordered and was told that I misunderstood the menu. For some odd reason I went back and tried their blue cheese enchiladas. They were wonderful. So overall I gave them a good rating, but watch out and pay attention to what you order.
Ticoz Hip Latin Neighborhood Bar with too much attitude. – We have been to Ticoz a few times for tapas and half price Margaritas a happy hour. We have usually had a good time, a couple of drinks and some great food. The other night however we decided to order their signature special chicken enchiladas. Now mind you, they have fairly reasonable prices on the menu so you can imagine the shock when the check came back at $18.95 for a chicken enchilada, rice, and a vegetable. It was good, but not that good and it gave me indigestion all night -not sure from the price or the sipces. Never go back there again.
Fantastic Hideaway in downtown Phoenix – I have been to Ticoz a few times, and have never been disappoointed! The variety of drink specials are excellent. The prices are extremely reasonable, and the menu is unbelievable. I would highly recommend going to Ticoz!
Ticoz Rawks! – I seriously crave the fish tacos, calamari, tostadillos (out of this world!!!) and of course the amazing mojitos. I love the vibe and energy of Ticoz. It's a pretty big place with a lovely patio, a smokin' hot bar, large dining room and a private room in back. How cool is that? I've always had the friendliest servers who have great knowledge and suggestions on the menu. Oh my gosh and you must try the coconut curry rice....SO GOOD!
$2 Mojito Monday SOUNDS like a great deal.... – but you'll be paying in patience whenever you decide to sit on the patio. My friend and I have been there every Monday for the past 2 months, and each time we've had the same waiter. Never once has he remembered us. Not that that's expected, but some sort of acknowledgement is just good service. His consistancy is completely lacking, bringing us chips 1 time, not the other, giving us menus 1 time, not the other, forgetting our drinks altogether, and the worse being last night when he argued the bill, when we clearly knew how many we had consumed. Had he not been our waiter, we probably wouldn't speak so ill of Ticoz now, but he is there every Monday working the patio, and there is no getting around his terrible work ethic. Our advice is forget Mojito Monday if you plan on sitting on the patio. IF we decide to go back with a guarantee of better service, we'll be hitting the dining room for sure.
Very bad customer relations – I arrived at 7pm on a Thursday night. They said I there would be a 40 minute wait. I asked for patio seating, it was a beautiful night. That was just fine. We walked through the bar and there was not one seat available. We walked into the patio are and there were two tables occupied, each with two people. We sat down at a table and were promptly asked to move as that table was taken. Now they had the rest of the patio area vacant and they were not seating anybody from the bar area which would have left seat available for my friend and I. They need better management oversight. I am very disappointed by their performance and their lack of customer relations.
Outstanding food in a comfortable yet energetic setting. – We have been followers of Ticoz for years--starting with Ibiza in Scottsdale...then moving to Fez on Central and then trying Ticoz over the summer. The food is outstanding, and the ambience is restfull yet energetic. My hubby and I went alone the first time, and have since taken many other couples and friends to Ticoz. All who have tried it have declared the Curried Rice "the best" and while I personally LOATH calamari, I did try a bite and it was not awfull (this is a rave on squid from me). The other three Calamari-eaters in the group declared it to be THE BEST THEY EVER HAD. It was tender--not the least bit rubbery and very delicate in flavor. The pinapple salsa is wonderful, as are the entres. I have gotten the curried rice with chicken several times and it is big enough to guarantee at least one lunch leftover. The Barbacoa is tender and smokey and delicious. We love the tamales as well as the lettuce wraps. I know every trendy place on the planet does a lettuce wrap, but the owners of Ticoz and Fez have managed to bring something new to the table each time they reinvent the wrap. Happy hour specials are generous and the margaritas and martinis are unique. The Mojito is sweetened with brown sugar and that gives it an earthy twist. We always plan for a bout 3 hours at Ticoz--in part due to the mojitos, but mostly because the food and the restaurant are just such a great place to pass an evening--feeling like you are among friends even when you are there on your own.
GREAT addition to central Phoenix – Tasteful midtown/urban upscale atmosphere (sorely lacking in central Phoenix) without annoying snotty pretentious attitude. Gay-friendly, yet not gay-dominated. Located directly across the street from Burger Betty's (formerly Hamburger Mary's). Very attentive wait staff, the kind that deserve good tips. Good variety of dishes to choose from, all prepared with fresh ingredients and all perfectly cooked and attractively presented. My kind of place! Definitely recommended and I wish them many years of success.
Editorial Review – With a full bar and a patio to chill on, this Phoenix restaurant provides Latin-style cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere daily.
