Filipino fast food – This place is the McDonald?s equivalent in the Philippines. There was one in every corner of Manila, so it was quite a shock for me when I saw one here in the states. Though it doesn?t have the best (or healthiest) food, this food brings upon a wave of nostalgia. I remember their macaroni soup was surprisingly good~ but beware if you ever order coke there, last time I went, it tasted like black licorice.
Chicken and White Rice – Where else can you find fried chicken and white rice served together?!!
I grew up in the Philippines and we eat everything with rice. I now live in Chicago and miss eating at Jollibee. I was visiting a childhood friend in the L.A. area and she asked me upon my arrival whether I wanted to get tacos or Jollibee. Jollibee of course! You have to try Chicken Joy, it's served with rice (as mentioned) and gravy! Yummy!
Fast Food Filipino Style – A popular Filipino fast food restaurant that offers unusual burgers like the "Aloha Burger" (that has a slice of pineapple on top of a teriyaki-flavored patty) and items like the "chicken joy" (fried chicken with rice) and bihon noodles with shrimp sauce. I always eat at Jollibees when I'm in the Philippines (it's their number 1 fast food chain) and was delighted to know that they also exist in Southern California. Definitely a great alternative to the usual McDonalds or Burger King, especially if you would like rice with your meal.
