good food and can't be the price – I've never had bad service at El Buen Gusto, so I don't know what was going on when previous reviewers complained about it. You really can't beat it for the price. Breakfast is three bucks, fer pete's sake -- I particularly like the juevos con chorizo. Carnitas burrito is, I think, $3.50, and very good. Guisados (stews) are delicious and their pupusas also rock. This is where I eat when I'm broke (almost always) and even when I'm not (rarely).
terrible service – I agree with the other two reviews but most importantly I can't say enough about the lousy service not to mention the fact that when you first walk in you're greeted by an older woman who is more concerned about everything else but the customers (intermingling with family and friends as customers are trying to contribute to the establishment) Oh I should mention here that this has happened on another occasion but my family and I decided to give it another chance however, after this last visit we will not only never go back but we will inform our family and friends about the lousy service. I'm aware of the importance of friends and family but I'm also aware of the fact that it's the customers that keep the establishment running so on that note please although I can't talk much on the food since I never had a chance to try it, I can give you a warning about their service to save you some time.
Looooong Wait – I agree with the first review. I gave it one more star because we did wait the 45 minutes (no joke) for our to go order and the food was good. It was not good enough for the HORRIBLE wait!
Worst Service EVER – Folks, I would normally include a review about the food, but, the service was soo bad that we walked out of the restaurant before getting food. First off they took our order...VERY RUDE. The older woman that was working the cash register taking orders was rude, and more interested in talking to her friends than helping us. Later we discovered she was so uninvolved in helping the guests that she wrote our order down completely wrong and forgot to charge us (which made it easy to walk out...after a verrry looooooooooong wait). Maybe our mistake was ordering to go, as was the other 5 "to go" orders. We realized that when after a half hour (not kidding folks...not kidding at all) of waiting for our food, we noticed that people who were seated after we arrived and ordered from the waiters were getting served. Finally when I asked the woman about our order, she showed me a bag with only one thing in it that had been sitting on the counter for 20 minutes. I told her it was wrong and repeated my order, then she said I hadn't told her that as an order. She then asked the cook to reheat whatever it was in the bag and said she was going to have to charge me more for my order. I told her she hadn't charged me and to forget it, I was leaving and walked out. The people who had ordered "to go" before me...were still sitting there waiting.
AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE....unless you are masochistic and enjoy being treated badly and bad slooooooooooowwwww service.
