amazing sushi – Happy Sushi is both mine, and my husbands favorite restaurant. Period. They have the freshest fish in town, and I highly recommend their yellowtail nigiri with ponzu sauce. The owners are both very nice, and the waitresses are fantastic. If you want to experience a great local sushi place I highly recommend this one.
Wonderful fast courteous service – Went to happy's on a whim. Immediately was helped. Fastest service EVER regarding sushi. Def would go again.
Great Sushi...in Mira Mesa – My husband and I decided last night, to take a nice walk and check out 'Happy Sushi' which is right in our neighborhood. We were very surpised...for a local sushi restaurant, it was good! We arrived right at 5p (they're closed from 3-5p) and was seated right away. Our waitress was very friendly, the service was great and we received our sushi rolls with-in 10 minutes. Their 'happy hour' is every hour, which is buy 2 - get 1 free. The size of the sushi's were pretty big and their draft beer was $2 a glass. I would highly recommend you go and give this place a try.
Terrible Service – I am posting the same review I have written on Yelp to here.
My husband and I have been to many Japanese restaurants big or small. After moving back to California, we found this place to be fairly inexpensive and "O.K." to have some sushi. So far, we have been to this place 3-4 times. The nice "inexpensive" menu changed on us tonight. Lets start with the service. Every single time we have been here. The service was just terrible. This has to be one of the worst. What's surprising is that our visits have been spread out over 3-4 months and it has not improved even from the same server. We tip 20% at most restaurants but can't honestly justify it for this one.
The Dynamite was just... not great. Most places they fill their dynamite with scallops, shrimps, and white fish. They filled it with salmon and tuna. The texture is just not good.
Over all, this place has become such a disappointment for us that we are likely to never return and go to Mr. Wasabi down the street instead.
Good sushi, but.... – A few friends and I decided to try a different Japanese restaurant a few days ago. So we went to Happy?s Sushi. You never know what to expect when trying a small neighborhood restaurant.
It is located in a small strip center on Mira Mesa Blvd. Parking is very good and access easy. They have a number of tables and we seated ourselves. Every one was very friendly. There appeared to be only one waitress, but she was very good and efficient and seemed to handle all the tables with ease.
They had a nice selection of sushi and variety of other Japanese?s items. We chose some sushi and a few combination plates. The sushi was very good. The combination plates included teriyaki chicken and teriyaki beef. The menu said the combination plates included rice, miso soup, salad and several sides. When they arrived they looked great. The salad was fresh and the rice excellent. But we were disappointed in the beef and chicken.
We expected them to be served on small skewers and either freshly grilled or barbecued as with other places we have been. Instead they were just small pieces of meat mixed together with vegetables and sauce. The chicken was nearly inedible. It was not fresh tasting and may have been prepared much earlier and possibly even reheated. The beef was chewy and stringy with pieces of fat and gristle mixed in. All in all not what we expected.
So while we give their sushi a grade of A-, their combination plates get a D-. If we go back again, it will only be for the sushi. Oh...we never did get any miso soup.
excellent local sushi place in mira mesa – When I walked in I was greeted immediately and customer service was on the dot. The atmosphere was very nice and pleasing and made you feel like you were at home. All the servers are very beautiful women and are very polite. The server listens to all my requests of food ordered and does not hesitate to place the order into the kitchen or sushi chef. In a short amont of time food was brought out and served to me. The sushi is very fresh and does not smell fishy that you might smell at a few other sushi restaurants. The sauces that are topped on the sushi have very good flavor. The steak served from the kitchen was sizzling hot on hot plate brought out and caught others at full attention due to the sizzling and smell. My drink never ran emply and was always full. When it came to the bill the price is reasonable as with all other sushi restaurants. Parking is not a problem at all plenty of spaces. The restaurant special has this buy 2 sushi rolls and get the 3rd roll free of equal or lesser price. I must say this restaurant tops my hunger very well. Location is good especially for the local college students from UCSD. Once you have been to happy's sushi you will want to come back again and again.
Great local sushi restaurant! – I live and work in Mira Mesa so to find good quality sushi in my area is rare. I noticed Happy Sushi everytime I shopped at Seafood City so I thought I'd give them a try. I was immediately greeted when I walked in. The atmosphere is relaxed and the sushi chefs acknowledged me too. Service was good, my drink never went empty and the waitress was very accomodating with my indecisive decision on which sushi rolls to order. As far as the sushi rolls, I ordered a Black Dragon roll which has my favorite ingredient, EEL! I also ordered an OK Roll which is cooked. Both were EXCELLENT in taste and in presentation! Then to my suprise, the waitress asks me what I would like for my third roll which turned out to be FREE! They have Happy Hour for lunch and in the evenings which is buy two rolls get one free! How awesome is that?!?! My third roll was a Special Ed Roll which had scallops on top. Very very tasty!
Overall: The atmosphere is relaxed, the service is great, prices are VERY reasonable (especially during happy hour!) and best of all, the sushi is very good!
I'll be back for sure!
Not recommended – Worst food and survice I have ever gotten.
A waitress was so BIOTOH and,we had wait 40 minutes for Udon. Sushi was horrible as HELL. Fish was not fresh and took so long to come out.
I will never never come back this horrible place. It is not worse to throw your money on garbage.
I again appologize for your experience at my restaurant as I appologized to you in person when you were there last Sunday.
Because YOU are a veteran server at Edo Sushi in UTC for 7 years I would hope that you would be understanding that a waitress in training that has only been working for 2 days may have some challenges but to call this young college kid names is just not nice. Just think, when you started as a waitress, she was only 10 years old. Again, I appologize the unacceptable service you received that evening but name calling should not be in food reviews.
Regarding the freshness of our fish I will not even address that to you since I feel that your experience had been biased by the service you received.
We take great pride in the quality of food we serve as anyone can see in www.yelp.com for the great reviews we have received.
Editorial Review – Japanese restaurant specializes in fresh sushi as well as seafood, chicken, beef and noodle dishes. Wide selection of beer and sake available.
Good fish, decent price, nice staff – The new owner is very excited about the place, so quality is important and it shows. Great happy hour deals from 11-2.
