Good stuff! – This place is a bargain for the endless sushi you can receive! Fresh. Fast. Worth the drive down Newport!
A great place to AVOID! :) – HEY! you must be kidding me! I went to Kura because of the rating, but.. Come on!? What is that, chinese imitation sushi? Anyway arriving there and seeing the bargain price should ring the bell.. Paying 15$ for dinner and beer sounds good but I can only hope I won't die tonight. It's like going to Olive Garden to eat Italian.. LOL!
Yeah, go at Kura if you're used to shop for deli at 7eleven and if you drink Yellowtail Chardonnay on very special occasions.
good sushi, great price =) – the sushi is always fresh here! they have toro and uni at a really good price, too (except they havnt had any toro for the past few months). they also have hamachi kama (yellow tail cheek) thats really good, but its kind of small. great place to meet up with some friends for lunch or dinner. i dont recommend going there like between maybe 3 to 5 because thats when they kind of take everything down from the conveyer belt and there isnt any food on the belts (but you can still order what ever u like from the chefs).
Love it! – A must! Different and fun. Great for lunch but not for large groups. Try the Oyster shooters or the special rolls!
What Heaven may be like for some... – For some people (my soulmate among them) Heaven is a place where food comes past you in an endless parade, and all you have to do is reach out and take what you want. If such be the case, then Kura Sushi is heaven on earth! The way it works: they place nigirizushi, cut rolls and dessert items on color-coded plates, cover them with plastic domes, and set them on a conveyor belt which circles through the restaurant. (I timed it at 9.5 minutes for a full circuit.) If you see something that you fancy you just take it off the conveyor, remove the dome, enjoy, and set the plate aside. When you're finished they count the empty plates, price them according to color and figure up your bill accordingly. The per-plate prices range from $1.25 to $3.25. They also have 'blackboard' specials which can be made to order by the sushi chefs, and a full menu of Japanese cuisine. It's a tremendous value for the money: a couple can have a very enjoyable dinner for less than $30.00 (tip included). For my part: I love saba (mackerel) and it's one of the $1.25 items. Now that my soulmate and I know of this place - we will never, ever go back to Todai or any other all-you-can-eat sushi place again.
