Nice food, but service is lacking – My husband and I dined here for restaurant week. The food was decent (though they failed to give us what we requested twice during the meal). The service was exceptionally slow, however; there just didn't seem to be enough people on staff. When we first entered the establishment we had to wait 10 min before someone actually noticed us waiting at the front. It was another 5 min before someone came to seat us. I understand this place can be busy but it would've been a simple matter of common courtesy for someone to at least greet us and to let us know whether we would need to wait for a table. (Note: we encountered this after we had called 30 min in advance asking for a reservation for 2, which they had promised. Ominously enough, they didn't bother to take our names over the phone but promptly hung up after saying they would hold a table for us. I am not sure whether this means the restaurant accepts reservations or not.)
The soup we tried - sizzling rice - was quite delicious. The portion offered was also very generous, and I highly recommend this item as an appetizer. For entree, I tried the Tung Ting Shrimp, which I found to be tolerable, though certainly not memorable. My husband had the lychee shrimp, which came out with the wrong sort of rice. I tried a morsel of his dish and I found it tasted more like a generic sweet and sour sauce than lychees, but perhaps that's what it is supposed to taste like. We also ordered the mango ice cream and received the green tea variety instead. Considering it took nearly 2hrs to get to this point in the meal we decided not to raise any issue over it. The servers always seemed extremely rushed and distracted so we didn't hold it against them.
I think this eatery has substantial promise, but they need to hire more staff - both servers and cooks, and perhaps a host or two. It would greatly enhance the customer's experience if the food came out properly cooked, in a timely manner, and if it was served by someone who could devote enough attention to the customer to ensure a satisfactory (and correct) meal. It would also help to have someone greet guests as they arrive so that people aren't left hanging at the entrance, feeling neglected and out of place.
Great food, Poor service – My husband and I enjoyed the honey walnut shrimp, beef with broccoli, and tamarind chicken. The food is not necessarily the most creative, but it is very tasty. The restaurant itself has a nice ambience, and we were seated right away. Unfortunately, we found the service to be rushed and inattentive. We may return if we are in the area and craving Chinese food, but I think that in the near future we will be trying out some different Chinese restaurants.
Good Food – If you are looking for tasty Chinese food, I definetly recommend this place. There is never a wait to be seated, and the service is good. I recommend the Chow Fun and the Black Bean sauce fish fillet.
Ample parking and a cozy outdoor seating area.
EXCELLENT DIM SUM AND FOOD! – We have eaten at Crystal Jade about 3 times and had excellent service each time. The Dim Sum is wonderful and the quality superb with no MSG added! Tonight June 23, we will be celebrating our 6th GOTCHA DAY commemorating our adopting our daughter from Hunan, China in 2002!

Best Chinese restaurant in Irvine! – I moved to Orange County less than a year ago from Tokyo. I believe that you can get the best of any types of food including French, Italian, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, of course Japanese, bread and cakes in Tokyo. Food and restaurants are so sophisticated there. I love to eat out, so I went to many restaurants which were recommended in the county but most of them disappointed me. I do not understand why lots of people love to eat at S.W. restaurant. I have finally found a Chinese restaurant where I can enjoy every food except Almond jello. Their Dim Sum is delicious as well as noodles and other regular dishes. Portion of the food is just right for me, but it may not satisfy a big eater. If you want to eat more, order more! I like not only their food but also the ambience of the restaurant which is neat and stylish. There is appropriate space between tables so that you do not have to care about other customers sitting at the table next to you. Customer service is decent. Price is reasonable. I am sure you can have a good time with your date, friends or family. Highly recommended!
