Don't feel like making the three-hour trip to IKEA? This gigantic warehouse in the Mission stocks affordable, contemporary furniture from around the world. – It may be the zebra-print ottomans and blue pleather chairs that bring in the eclectic crowd walking past their Valencia Street storefront, but it's the shop's prices (on everything from lamps and mirrors to armoires and bed frames) that get visitors to plunk down credit cards for store stock and custom orders alike. The 5000-square-foot space is absolutely cavernous--if it weren't for all the furniture there would surely be an echo with every "May I help you?"--compared to the cramped quarters of the nearby restaurants and bars. All the better to house the decorative IKEA-like room set-ups, which make you wish there was room in your tiny studio for an eight-foot grey suede couch.
F**k that guy – I agree with the other review. I wont even get into questions about quality of the products and integrity of their manufacturing practices. Their return policy is rigid and the customer service is aweful. I made a mistake and ordered a table that woudlnt fit in my kitchen. the guy woudlnt let cancel the order less than 24 hours later even though it was an order that was placed to the warehouse for delivery 2 weeks from now. WORSE, he wouldnt let me sell it to another customer whod come in that morning looking for the same table, and I had bought the last one! what an a**hole!!
Rude Staff, Lame Policies, but good for window shopping – This store is a good spot to window shop and find what you like, but you don't need to buy your stuff here. The staff printed a quote for me for a large sectional couch and I went home and spent the entire weekend working with the measurements and figuring out my finances so that I could pull it off. I went back the next day and they said it was actually $200 more expensive than what THEIR quote read... no apology, no willingness to honor their own quote or at least compromise, NOTHING! I was shocked and really disappointed. It's like $100 for delivery 4 blocks away, and there are absolutely no exchanges or returns, so if it doesn't fit through your door, that's your problem. All around, I wouldn't recommend giving these guys a dime... they are just rude and snobby and entitled and I would never hand my money over to them... they can't just get away with having such poor customer service, ya know?.
Here's what I recommend and what I did. I found what I wanted at Z Barn, and then searched for the manufacturer of the couch that I wanted and got a list of all the local distributors of that line in the Bay Area. I then had to make a few phone calls and do a little homework, but I found it. I found a place that was family run, the people that worked there were very helpful, respectful, patient, and made me feel like my cash would be much better spent in their location. The icing on the cake was that I found the couch for over $400 LESS!!! AND, they deliver for $35, AND if it doesn't fit through your door it's no problem... they will just allow you to return it. They promised delivery in 4 weeks or less, whereas Z Barn says 4-10 weeks.
This Z Barn place is just an awful place to do business in my opinion, and I encourage you to go there and see all of their cool stuff, but to know that if you don't feel like they are treating you right or working with you, then just be a little patient and find/buy your stuff somewhere else.
