Mediocre pasta, baby-boomer crowd with nice cars – The food here is average, but the prices are above average. It is an attractive restaurant though with a nice patio and an indoor fountain. This is one of Louisville's hotspots for the 40+ crowd. On any given night you can walk by and smell the expensive cigars and ooh and aaah at the fancy cars parked outside, especially on the weekends. The service and the pizzas are good.
Wow! -- a meal I'll never forget!! – What an amazing evening. Not just the food, but the whole ambiance of the place. I couldn't get enough of Porcini's fabulous entertainment and service. We must have been the last people to leave.
My "date" is still talking about what an unforgettable time she had.
Clueless In Louisville – Derby weekend has been a nightmare the last two years...I won't return. Not only can't they seat you within 2 hours of your scheduled time, they can't find the time to give you an update, they don't buy you a drink for the inconvenience. If you want to eat dinner there, schedule a breakfast time and you might actually get a table. Loved the place in year one, the last two years have totally sucked.
Good food but dissapointing service. – It may have been from being dissapointed from the start. We had done a search for seafood restuarants and this one popped up (may not have been a citysearch result). It was a good Italian place with excellent atmosphere and did have a reasonable selection of seafood items, but not what I would classify as a seafood place. I selected the scallops which was a special and they were excellent. The fried artichokes were also a very good appetizer. The waitress did well until the main course came but then forgot about us. We got more service from the bus boy after that. As service is just as important to me as the food, I can give no more than three stars.
Italy comes to the Bluegrass – Great restaurant, especially for entertaining out-of-town guests. Atmosphere is casual but classy. Food was outstanding and authentically Italian. The calamari was excellent and the wine list is outstanding. Highly recommended for special occasions.
Send your tastebuds on a trip to Italy while your body is firmly planted in this sophisticated spot. – The Scene
This restaurant transports palates and minds directly to Italy from its softly gurgling fountain to its pizzas reminiscent of those found at Tuscany sidewalk cafes. Moderately priced Californian and Italian bottles dominate the wine list, though excellent martinis and Manhattans are available.
The golden-fried calamari appetizer is so generous you'll have to share. The salad with baby lettuces, walnuts, saga blue cheese and hot apple dressing is a revelation to the tastebuds with a variety of flavors and textures intermingling. Updated classics include pasta dishes and gourmet pizzas, a few made with the eponymous porcini mushrooms. The veal in white wine and lemon caper sauce is refreshingly light, while the pork medallions wrapped in prosciutto and drizzled with a sweet Marsala wine and fig sauce are an adventure in indulgence.
Can't miss! – My husband and I always enjoy Porcini and consider it one of our top three restaurants in Louisville. Food is excellent; especially the mussels and pastas. Their wine selections are bountiful and don't pass on the tiramisu for dessert! The service is attentive and knowledgeable. If you must wait for a table, the bar is a great place to pass the time. It's also a fun place to people watch!
