A rare GEM featuring Chinese and Sushi that is unbelievable. We just move into the area last year from San Mateo having worked in SF for many years. We love Chinese food and Sushi and we never thought a restaurant could do both well until we found Lucys. What a pleasant surprise. From the moment you walk in, you realize this is not your father's Chinese restaurant or your mother's Japanese restaurant. The decor is cozy yet exciting. The food is exceptional and I can't believe they can make the most delicious Honey Walnut Prawns and also make a Sushi roll called Godzilla that just satiates my palate. We've gone back 3 times in the past month and we are simply hooked. We are going down the menu trying different things and so far we have not been disappointed. The only area where they need to improve is service. We are not expecting French Laundry level service but when they get busy, service is perfunctory but I will take that trade off as long as the food is this amazing.
Would Not Eat Here Again. Having read the glowing reviews (Contra Costa Times, etc.), and hearing several favorable word-of-mouth comments, arrived all set for a great dining experience. Was unprepared for the cavernous (and noisy) dining area. Service was semi-fast but perfunctory. Tried some sushi and the tempura shrimp as starters---and decided it wasn't worth wasting time and money on anything else on the menu. This place will probably survive because it appears popular with younger locals and families who might not think they have other options. There are so many better places to try, why go here unless your car breaks down and you're stranded in the parking lot....
