BAD – when my friend rented out the small hall they charged him $5,000 it was less than 150 people there the food was ok but the dishes glasses and silverware were dirty like if they only wet them then my friend provided the beer and the manager couldnt even provide plastic cups my friend had to go buy them .
the girls who work there do a very good job that only one was working our hall by herself .
also i heard that the boss doesnt pay his employees complete he ends up owing them money every time :( very sad
best food and service – great food and the best part they will coook it the way u want it with no attitude we always get welcomed like a family
Good for vegetarians IMHO – Ok, so my husband and I are die-hard fans of the Shalimar restaurant in Fremont. Unfortunately we live in Walnut Creek and of course cannot drive up just to eat there. So today we decided to check out Mehran.
First out, it's situated on the main road, pretty easy to find. The neighborhood was well....went from good to ok to huh?
Going in, you will probably not be greeted at the door to be seated, but beckoned from the counter and be seated. We went for the Lunch buffet so it was slightly crowded and we had to do with the table right next to the buffet. The other tables do not offer any privacy either.
On to the food...we started with the Vegetable pakoras which were good. The chicken tandoori was over (we were there at about 2:30 pm) and came out only about 40-45 minutes later. They were surprisingly tender, but do not spoil it with the mint chutney.
The vegetable biryani was good...whole veggies, retaining their colour and the rice was thankfully not overcooked. We do not eat beef, but the goat curry was ok. Well cooked, but we felt it lacked seasoning. The chicken was good...but a little too buttery for me. Now I'm a pure non-vegetarian. So I was sort of disappointed with the choices available. The mixed vegetables and aloo masala were delicious, except that some of the potatoes were sorta hard and uncooked. We had to wait quite a bit for the naans to come out though, so much so that we actually went back for the sides because we finished everything on our plates while waiting for them.
Now, to my next favourite aisle, deserts. The choices were gulab jamun, suji halwa and kheer. And surprises of surprises, I liked all of them. Not overtly sweet as I normally find in buffets and not even cold. The kheer was of rice and was almost like one my mother-in-law makes back at home (I think). The halwa was warm, almost melted in your mouth and was just rightly sweet. The gulab jamuns were soft, warm and did melt in your mouth. I did not need to squeeze the juice out to make them less sweet and that was good!

Great Indian food! – I recently emigrated from Trinidad and missed my homestyle Indian food...No more! Mehran offers me a taste of my home away from home! I am East Indian ,my husband who is Caucasian and my five year old enjoy the tasty and delicious cuisine that Mehran offers! It is a weekend ritual for us!

Best food I've ever had – Ok. I need to start my review by pointing out that I am both a Caucasian, and an American--born and raised. I've never had Indian food in my life. I was scared from all the stories I hear from people (people who probably had never even tried Indian food once in their lives, either). But it wasn' t until recently that I met my girlfriend who happens to be from Pakistan. She somehow managed to get me to try her favorite restaurant--Mehran Restaurant in Pittsburg
Now, I have actually been inside an Indian restaurant before, but have never actually sat down to eat since the smell was always too much "Curry-like" for me to handle. Upon walking into Mehran, the smell was INTOXICATING. It was like a garlic/onion/bbq-like smell, tough to put my finger on, but it smelled great. We had come in for the lunch buffet, and they had a nice presentation with shiny serving dishes. Dianne, the waitress, is very knowledgeable (and American as well) so things that my girlfriend couldn't explain she explained in greater detail. I would ask questions like "what's Karahi Gosht?" to Dianne and she would not only tell me what it was, but what I could more associate it with in typical American fare. VERY HELPFUL. Fresh Naan (bread) was immediately brought to our table, and it was all you can eat.
Eat I did. The best thing, I think I've EVER EATEN IN MY LIFE, was their Chicken Tikka Masala. I can't describe it except to say its pieces of chicken breast in the most creamy, spicy, succulent sauce you've ever had/or will have. This is worth the price of the buffet. My girlfriend told me it's everyone else's favorite as well. And she says it tastes nothing like the Chicken Tikka Masala from other Indian restaurants, which rely heavily on other spices that she says ruins the overall taste. I'll take her word for it. This stuff is spectacular. I'd like to talk about the other food, but I'm out of space.
