Best steak that has me addicted! – This is a great place. I had a business lunch here about 6 months ago. Boy was I lucky. We each ordered the bone-in rib-eye. Fabulous! The steaks were tender and juicy. The best steak I have ever had and I have eaten at many steak and chop houses across the country. Ruths Chris might follow with second place, but not that close.
Our server was knowledgable and swift.
The two downsides were the price, but in this case you really get what you pay for and the hours of operation. I have tried to stop in a few times, but of course my timing has been off. I guess my schedule allows me go out in the late afternoon, and they are not open. Only lunch hours and dinner hours!
I have been craving a return ever since. I tried to make reservations for Valentines day, but I called too late and they were full.
Another thing that I thought was cool was, Yan from "Yan Can Cook" was there filming a show. My friend went to the restroom only to return and tell me about Yan! Sure enough he was there filming.
Come hungry, bring money – I love this restaurant for the awesome food. Genuine Japanese Kobe...you can't find that much in this area...but it's pricey. Then you'll be spoiled for regular beef. I love the little cotton candy they bring with the bill. I just wish they had some side dish with the steak that you don't have to pay extra for!
Overated – This steakhouse provides an interesting selection of food, but the tastes of them are quite disappointing. The tako salad was too sour, the appearance of the wild mushroom soup made us lose our appetite, and the steaks (filet mignon and new york) were very tender and juicy, yet tasteless. The tables were too close together which make any romantic dinner uncomfortable.
Best Steaks – I have been to Alexander?s twice in the past year. This is one of the best restaurants on the Southbay. In reading the first review, I find it hard to believe that we were in the same restaurant. The service here has always been very attentive, with a very knowledgeable staff. I?ve had both the Porterhouse and the Ribeye. They are great. The Chef?s know how to prepare the food. The Portions are absolutely huge! Even though the prices are high, you get a lot. They do all of the dry-aging in-house. They are one of the few places to carry grade 5 or higher on real Kobe Beef. My dinning companion had the American Kobe, and it was so tender and cooked perfectly. After we had eaten, we were curious about a small room we saw upstairs, and the manager took us on a complete tour of the restaurant, including the kitchens! They are the most spotless kitchens I?ve ever seen.
If you want a very nice, romantic place for a special occasion, I would recommend Alexander?s.
Great experience! – After reading the previous review, I was almost swayed to have dinner elsewhere. I am glad I didn't! A friend and I went there to celebrate his birthday and ironically, we also had the ribeye and porterhouse. Both were excellent and neither were over/under seasoned or dry. The scallop appetizer and sides were all excellent (mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and maple squash). Our reservations were for 7:30 (on a Friday night) and we were seated immediately. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. Neither one of us finished our entrees so we skipped dessert. We did, however, nibble on the complimentary cotton candy! Overall, it was a great dining experience. I would definitely go back.
Mediocre Food, Bad Service, and Not Worth the Price!! – I checked out this restaurant with some friends because I had heard good things about it. The service was bad...I could tell the waiter was trying, but was not up to par considering the prices. I don't mind paying a lot for a meal if the food & service are good, but this place is definitely not it. They ran out of menu items, and we had dinner at 7:30. The porterhouse steak was over-seasoned and drowned in too much sauce. The rib eye was overcooked and tough. My dining companion ordered the steak topped with foie gras...only to have to foie gras come so late that she was already almost done with her steak! When we tried to cancel the order, they wouldn't let us, even though they were the ones that got the order wrong in the first place. I definitely would NOT recommend this place to anyone!
