Fair value for great quality of ingredients – 9/23/06 This fine dining has been in business for a couple years now. They are in a spot that has seen a number of similar establishments come and go. Reports came to me that this place has a steady clientelle. Most of the dining is outside. This does pose a problem since there is not enough adequate shade. If you want to eat inside without a 20-30 minute wait you have the option of eating at the bar. The acoustics inside are good since most of the noise is outside where 80% of the diners are. I felt more effort should be applied to make the outside dining more comfortable and intimate. Putting tables on the sidewalk just isn't enough. Ordered the House made fries with gorgonzola and rosemary, $6; Spinich salad with bacon, goat cheese, dates, and cracked almonds, $12; Open faced grilled sirloin burger with bacon and blue cheese, $12; roasted pork loin sandwich, $12. The salad came with mixed greens since the spinach scare is upon us. I found it to be a mediocre attempt of combining a variety of special ingredients. They did not meld together to create a symphony to my palette. I would pass on this one. The fries were a surprise. I think the quality of the cheese was the cause. I am now a firm believer in Point Reyes dairy. Their cheese is tangy and smooth which is rare in a blue cheese. Unfortunately this cheese overpowered the wonderful flavor of the grilled burger. I found my self scrapping it all off. The bacon was cut in thick small chunks which was just right to impart its wonderful smokiness. I did find that the chef should be a bit more selective in which pieces to present, for there were too many chunks that were nothing but fat. I inquired about the pork and was told it came from Japan. It was marinated in a sweet sauce and I felt this is where the gorgonzola needed to be. It was awesome at that point. It was messy affair though with a pool of sauce dripping out of it.
