I first heard about Aunt Cynthia's from an acquaintance who had left her 2 dogs here overnight on different occasions. She said her dogs seemed happy when they returned home and that I should check it out. I took my 6 month old Lab for a temperament evaluation and he passed. He is a really sweet friendly dog and a bit of a scaredy cat. The facility looked and smelled clean and Leroy was extremely friendly and I could tell he loves dogs. I have never been a pet owner before so I wasn't sure what to look for. The outdoor play area seemed fun and I love the idea of a cage free environment, especially since my Lab is an indoor dog and not used to being caged up. I was shown the 4 rooms they have and only 1 of them actually had furniture, couches, tv,etc. Also this was the only room where there was actually someone in the room with the dogs and supervising them. The other 3 rooms only had a water bowl/tank for the dogs with NO ONE watching them. 1 room had at least 20 dogs in it. I was told that since my puppy wasn't neutered yet that he would be in a smaller room with less dogs and that it would cost me an extra $10/day. I was ok with that because I figured it would be a safer environment for him because he is scared of bigger dogs and it would be safer with less dogs.

I was WRONG!!! Even though I had a gut feeling to not leave him here, I dismissed it thinking I was being too cautious since I'm new to the dog world. I left him here for 3 nights and I would call in everyday to check in on him. I was told that he was doing great and that he was only with 2 other dogs the whole time. When I picked him up I noticed a cut right above his eye and asked about it and was told that it looked like a scratch from another dog. They weren't even sure, which means nobody was watching him. I took him to his vet the next morning to have him checked out. It was not a scratch, it was a BITE mark. The vet also found 4 other bite marks on his lower chin area. They had to shave the hair off where they found all these bite marks and clean the wounds. This happened with only 2 other dogs in the room. Imagine if he had been put in the room with the 20+ dogs. Two weeks have passed and his wounds are still healing. My dogs behavior was also different when he came home. He was scared and nervous. He is now finally back to his old self again. I also now know why my friends dogs are so happy when they get home...they are happy to get the hell out of that hell hole.

If you love your dog, DO NOT let him/her stay here. In theory, an open cage environment is wonderful. However, Aunt Cynthia's clearly is understaffed and does not have the knowledge to properly care for your precious 4 legged baby.

I will never take my dog there again, even it they offered my free boarding. I would rather have him caged up, but safe.
