"Ethos" – My friend and I had a food poisoning from octapus and we called to complain about the incident and they ignored us. The name of the restaurant is Ethos but not consistent with the behavior of the management....it's pity that nowadays business behave like this

Absolute Rip off – Wow, Where can I start? I went with a friend who told me $90.00 per person. The bill came out to $345.00 for two because of a very expensive bottle of wine that we were not told about. There were no menus but a choice of 4 entrees and two appetizers. No wine menu but a choice of Greek wines with no price. We also got moved after being seated for awhile to accommodate a " Party of Seven" we were then seated in the back next to the heater. I felt like I had a fever it was so hot. Then we were seated in the corner by the door as it was the only spot. In the corner there were people smoking and then more people smoking. NYC laws do not apply to this place. Are you kidding me? If you are Greek and smoke and don't care about being ripped off then this is the place for you. If not be warned.

Keep your receipt! – I had a reservation at a Third Ave Murray Hill area restaurant, only to discover their A/C was out, when we arrived. So I used web-based OpenTable reservation service from my phone to quickly scarf a reservation at a nearby place with availability, which happened to be Ethos.

When we entered Ethos, I indicated I had a reservation, and she (the maitre d') asked, "did you call, or use OpenTable"? To which I replied, "OpenTable. The last name is <excluded-for-privacy> ". Then we had a reasonable meal for the price. My dining companion treated me and paid cash. A day later I was notified by OpenTable that I NO-SHOWED on my reservation!! This means I have a black-mark against me AND I didn't get the 1,000 OpenTable points I should have received. I disputed, but the restaurant would back down on the dispute unless I could *prove* I was there with a receipt. In the end, OpenTable did the right thing by awarding me the points and excusing the supposed "NO SHOW", but this restaurant is CLEARLY not customer-oriented, given this experience. I would STAY AWAY.

YUCK! YUCK! YUCK! – YUCK! I wish we had taken the time to read the reviews on this restaurant before going there yesterday. This is a very poor excuse for a restaurant. The service and attitude of the people working at this restaurant is so, so bad. The food was just as bad and we were overcharged for the food. We asked for a 1.5lb fish and when the check came we were charged for a 2lb fish with no explanation. The reality is the fish that they brought to the table was barely 1lb. People beware of this restaurant, one of the previous reviewers was spot on there are extortionist!!!

MANHATTANITES BEWARE, ETHOS HAS TERRIBLE FOOD!! – My husand and I are foodies and like visiting new restaurants. We went to Ethos about two weeks ago and ordered the grilled fish for him and a large greek salad for me, mistakenly thinking that everything would be fresh considering the prices Ethos charges. We asked for both dishes to be brought together so we could eat together. Needless to say, that request fell on deaf ears! The salad appeared first and we started picking on it as we were hungry. The lettuce was limp and the tomatoes overripe. The dressing was non-existent. After an hour of waiting (I kid you not!) and several reminders, the fish arrived or should I say fish fillets. It was dry, the flesh was pink in certain parts and smelt a little funny. I thought it was my imagination and we each took a bite and sadly, swallowed! I told my husband that I wasn’t going to eat anymore because the fish was smelling too much. After much hand signalling and frantic waving, our waitress arrived, looked irritated when we told her the problem and called the manager. The manager arrived and said the fish was fine and the problem was with my nose. My hobby is to explore new restaurants and NYC has plenty to offer. I certainly don’t need to pay to be insulted in a substandard restaurant such as Ethos. We walked out and to add insult to injury, I was sick for a week. It was the fish obviously!

My advice: ONLY GO TO ETHOS IF YOU WANT BAD FOOD AND WANT TO TAKE A SICK DAY AT WORK!

WORST FOOD AND EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! – These guys are daylight robbers, they care for nothing but short term profits - they have no sense of what customer service is about and whether their customers have had a good meal or not.

When we arrived we ordered their Greek salad, grilled fish and lamb chops. We had asked for the lamb chops to be well done. The salad came out pretty quickly and was ok, nothing to write home about. Then 50 minutes after we were served the salad, we asked about the main courses and the server said it would be another 10 minutes, we asked if they had forgotten our order and she insisted no it takes time to grill a fish!!

After 65 minutes, we finally got our main courses. We each took one bite of the fish and found it to be under cooked and cold, the lamb chops were rare, not well done as we had requested. We called the Manager over and complained about the fish and she took the fork and examined the fish and said it was fine and it was cold because it had just been filleted. My finance and I looked at each other in amazement and could not believe what we had just witnessed. We proceeded to eat the chops as by this time we were absolutely starving but left the fish as it was terrible and one bit was all that we could take. We then called the server asking for the check and expecting the fish to be taken off of our amount as we had barely touched it. She insisted because we each took a bite we had to pay $32 for the fish. We just could not believe that this was happening in NYC, she called over the Manager and she also insisted that we pay for the fish that was under cooked and not eaten. I then told the Manager that there was no way that I was going to pay for bad food and she stood there and argued loudly with me for 15 minutes insisting the fish was fine and as we had each taken a bite there was nothing she could do and we had to pay for the fish. We stood our ground and finally she said that she will take the amount off the check and that we were not welcomed back to the restaurant ever again. We happily left that establishment as there is no hope in hell that we would EVER WANT TO GO BACK TO THIS TERRIBLE RESTAURANT AGAIN.

NEW YORKERS SHOULD BE CAREFUL OF THIS PLACE, THEY ARE OUTRIGHT CHEATS AND ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS THE MONEY THEY ARE MAKING AND NOT WHETHER THEIR CUSTOMERS HAVE HAD A DECENT MEAL. NEW YORK HAS TOO MANY GREAT RESTAURANTS FOR ANYONE TO EVER GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THIS PLACE.

Extortion – I still can't believe this happens in NYC. These people are extortionists and they are getting away with it!!!!

Imagine this: There's a gorgeous fish bar at the back of the restaurant. You order a seabass expecting it comes as a whole fish. No - they filet it without asking, claim they give you a 2-pound fish, and charge you $45 ($19 / pound) for what you received.... knowing full well they'll get away with it because who can argue about what's already been eaten!!

EXTORTION be so so careful - this can easily ruin your evening.

Oh, plus, their salads are the oiliest I've ever had.

Shame on them.

Ethos: Noisy, Crowded, Overpriced and More – Having read the reviews on this website, we made reservations for Ethos on our trip to Manhattan. We arrived at 6:45 PM for our 7PM reservation. Three other couples with 7PM reservations arrived. A group of 4 pregnant women also arrived for their 7PM reservation for their party totaling seven. The restaurant was full, noisy and very crowded. THE RESTAURANT TOOK RESERVATIONS AND DID NOT HOLD ANY TABLES FOR THE PATRONS! Some of the people left, the pregnant ladies determined there was no table and too much noise and not enough room for their bellies, so they left. We waited since we were not rushed. After standing for 30 minutes, we were seated. Tables are small, so small in fact that entrees are eaten on small appetizer plates. Oh yes, you have to ask for a clean plate between courses. There is no room for a regular sized dinner plate. Portions are tasty, but small and servings are overpriced. We ordered 2 chicken dishes in addition to salad. We were served 2 lamb dishes which we returned to the kitchen. Our chicken arrived. One dish was a breast of chicken in a clay-pot. Unfortunately, there was precious little breast meat, but a significant amount of chicken thigh - not cool! The chicken kebab was just adequate. No tzatiki with the kebab. Greek orzo was average. In summary, they don't hold a reservation, they are noisy, crowded, overpriced, don't serve what is on the menu and you can do better if you look elsewhere.

Fabulous group dining experience – I wanted to do Greek food for my birthday dinner and none of my friends wanted to trek to Astoria. So I found Ethos on Citysearch and made a reservation based on reviews. The place lived up to the reviews and so much more. The reservation was on a Saturday night for 12 people. Not only was the table ready and waiting when we arrived (no waiting around like most other places), but they also accommodated an extra two people who showed up.

The service was friendly and always around to refill wine, bring another napkin, or whatever we wanted. At the end they brought us a free dish of AMAZING desserts with a candle for my birthday. It was the best birthday dinner I have had or been to in NYC where most places hate large groups and can't wait to get you out the door.

Authentic greek food, but very greasy and salty – They have a lot of authentic greek cuisines, but they were very salty. We had the egg plant appetizer, which was good, but after a few bites, it felt really heavy. I had the lamb casserole (don't know the actual greek name), and the meat was very tender. Again, too salty, though. We had more than 50% of our food leftover. I would not go back here unless you like salty food.
