For those of you who are complaining about the "lack of jobs" that you, your daughter/son etc. have received I can assure you that I have received many satisfactory jobs and I am nothing more than an average American girl. Im not Tall and Thin. Im AVERAGE! I am very pleased with the work that Cosmo has given me and I recommend anyone interested in modeling to attend this agency. They are no longer permitting "classes" or "training sessions" and they have not offered them for quite some time now. When signing with any agency you are informed that jobs are not promised. It depends on the Client/Job not the agency. Cosmo makes money off of your success, therefore they would not encourage an investment in someone who they don't think will work. Regardless of the jobs you may or may not get it definitely is a confidence boost. The pictures you pay for are fantastic and it is a lovely experience to have. I have never been insulted by the agency and I highly encourage everyone to give them a chance. Why would they "Scam" someone when they make commission off of the jobs that you apparently don't get. The jobs are not reflected by the agency!
I'm coming up on the tail end of my 2 year "contract" with Cosmo. The only phone call I ever received from them was to come in for a training session. Although I totally understood the premise of the session, I think it was executed very poorly. I didn't find it to be helpful at all, if anything it seemed quite degrading to many of the poor souls that were in attendance with me. Never again did Cosmo dial my number for anything. I'm extremely disappointed with the entire experience as it did nothing more for me than add $1300.00 to my credit card debt. In my honest opinion.....if you are not 100% sure of yourself and your abilities to be a model....stay away from this company. I believe they make opportunities for those familiar with the business but for those who are not...this is not the avenue to start out.
Signed my Daughter 2 years ago. My Daughter is 5ft 11 & weighs 134. When she signed she weighed 143. Called for several auditions. Each time told she needed to lose "just a little" weight.
Funny they didn't have a problem with her weight when... Nancy repeatedly called and I quote: "I GURANTEE she will work! If she doesn't work I owe you a dinner!"
So what is a good Mother to do?? Of course, I wanted my Daughter to build her confidence and promptly wrote a check for the FULL amount of $1,300.00.
After the 1st year my Daughter told me she would no longer attend auditions if COSMO called. The constant nagging about her weight (now after losing 10 pounds)...was beginning to wear on her self-esteem.
Keep in mind...Nancy told me: "If you sign her it will do WONDERS for your Daughter to build confidence! She NEEDS this. Do it for HER!"
Ummm, no. Just the opposite. I called and informed them: "Seriously, this is Louisville, Ky. NOT Paris/L.A or New York!"
So THEN their new schick was: "Well yes, but she does need to LEARN to take the criticism if she wants to be a model..." True, however my thoughts were...ok get her a paying job and the CLIENT can give her that criticism. But don't psych her out...before she even gets there!"
Do what you want. But a little over 2 years ago...I sat in this same spot. Reading COSMO reviews (most calling it a scam) & went ahead and signed my Daughter up anyway. A costly mistake on my part.
My Daughter now 17 works a part time job at Hollister. Ironically her title is: "Model."
Anyway, I took lunch to my Daughter at work one day and saw a diligent Mother walking around w/h her young teen daughter. Mom carried a COSMO portfolio and the "list" of clothes HER daughter would need for the first "photo shoot."
I almost said something...but held my tongue. I knew it was too late. The money had been spent. I did not want the Mom to agonize over the lost money.
Best advice I can give. Do not give your money to them
I have No tips or real reviews on this business as of this time but I will say they reviews I have read are not real uplifting I just hope cosmo proves them wrong in my daughters case that is why I have taken steps to upload her comp card to this sight the more looks the better chance for a modeling job.
ALL MODEL AGENCYS ARE NOT A LIKE .....I TRIED THEM ALL – WELL....WE ALL KNOW THE BEST MODEL AGENCYS SOME HAVE BEEN HERE FOR A SHORT TIME OTHERS FOR A LONG TIME ....COSMO A LONG TIME ...MY DAUGHTER meet cosmo at the mall and then again at the fair...WE HAVE HAD JOBs AND MADE SOME Money...".we have had fun and we know Louisville is not the mega modeling city of the world....look at their face book lots of work for a small city....get real understand they all can not be supper models....the other small agency really try to make them look back....when my daughter was with them she did all free work and all they did was slamm Cosmo.....glad we made the move....we may have a chance for a bigger city the say so far so good....
ripoff – Was approached at mall to bring toddler by to see about modeling and to bring pictures. ...once there was told did not really have any thing for child so young. ..but would keep in touch.
was called one day and told they had a call for possible audition but had to have $150 asap and to expect a call in a couple of days...paid the $150 and never heard a peep back.
Had so many people tell me later...what an idiot I had been and any legitimate agency NEVER asks for money .....want to know if any way could get with all the other folks who did the same and sue?
I'm sorry you feel you did not get what you paid for. With our current program any fees paid go toward a professional photo shoot to build the model's portfolio, as well as administrative costs for representation. In the case of toddlers, representation is for one year, as they change so rapidly during this developmental stage. We clearly state in writing and in numerous documents that we cannot guarantee work: it is the clients, not the agency, who select and hire the models, as with all agencies. Our clients, many of whom have been hiring our models for the entire three decades we've been in business, do not wish to book models at an expensive hourly rate based on snapshots taken at the kitchen table. We encourage you to continue to follow this path with your child if you feel it's an enduring interest, as with any other your child will want to experience, whether it be dance, sports, etc.
Terrible – This company is probably the biggest rip off I have ever experienced in my life. They take your money for bogus classes and awful head shots. Their comp card looks like a beginning photographer. The paper stock that the comp card comes on is poor quality. The agents show very little concern about getting work. Their fees are ridiculous and they have terrible reviews. Numerous complaints have been filed with the BBB. BEWARE !!! of this company.
