A last minute phone call to join a friend for pedi's and mani's at her usual spot, Pearl Nails. The service was friendly, and we came in 15 minutes before closing time. I was asked if I approved the color after it was applied, which I thought was considerate. The hot cup of herbal tea and massage chair that went head to head with the knot in my shoulder made for a relaxing evening.
Horrible Service. Rude People. Lying, Racist Staff. – Just see the other one-star reviews. Insert same issues here. The 5 star reviews are put in by the owner and her family. BTW - they are racist. If you aren't of their particular ethnicity, you are treated poorly.
The words in my headline? Yeah, they're very strong, but also true. There are so many other places to go that offer better service, better skills, and less disdain for customers.
They'll take your money from a Living Social voucher, but try as you might for months on end, they won't schedule you. It's so bad that I called Living Social for a refund and as soon as they saw "Pearl Nails" in my history they didn't ask any further questions...they are already pursuing this company for breach of contract.
Don't Do It!!!! – Purchased a Living Social coupon for this place, should have read Yelp first! HORRID customer service provided. I have called 4 times to try to make an evening or weekend appointment for a Pedi/Mani and each time I tell them that I have the Living Social deal suddenly they have no openings on their schedule. Today I called and the excuse the lady gave me was "We don't make any money on these, it was just for advertisement, so we can only take a few a day"....WHAT!!!!! If this is the case, don't do it, advertise in the newspaper!!!
I refuse now to use the coupon, I will lose out but I refuse to give this place ANY business of mine. I went to a wonderful place down the street instead, Onyx....and had a wonderful time, great mani/pedi. Good luck Pearl Nails.....
Wonderful pampering – Pearl Nails is clean, professional and worth a visit!!! I have been going there for many years and wouldn't go to anyone but Tiffany. She is fast, efficient and hard working.
They are busy but do take drop-ins, but best to call ahead!!!
Living Social clients acting badly – I've been going to Tiffany, Owner of Pearl Nails since before she opened her own salon. She is lovely, hardworking, helpful, accommodating and a true artist. She has always treated each of my nails like they are her personal masterpieces.
Today I was there in an appointment with Tiffany and witnessed some very bad behavior. Both of the offenders were Living Social clients. Let me start by saying that if you are a Living Social customer you need to read the terms of agreement and understand them before you buy the coupon (literally). Coming into this salon and trying to bully the staff into giving you something you did not purchase (rules are clearly stated on the voucher you did purchase) shows you are rude, possibly illiterate, and takes away from those of us who either happily pay for our services or read the rules and follow them.
Attitudes of entitlement and expecting the rules to be bent for you (and making a scene if they are not) is unacceptable. Pay attention to what is happening, read your voucher, don't blame your mistake on others and sit back and enjoy twenty little Tiffany (& staff) masterpieces each and every time at Pearl Nails!
Not impressed – I bought the livingsocial deal excited that I could now go in and get a pedicure and manicure. I'm one of those that does tip how I should based on original prices as well. What I don't understand is why do companies put deals on sites like livingsocial or groupon and then give you to the person who does the worst service? If you are trying to create more business (which I would come back if I had been happy with my nails), then why make it so those people don't want to come back?
I've been to a number of nail places and I do know that the experience really does depend on the person doing your nails. And I noticed that many people leaving the salon did have very good quality work done. However, the gal doing mine seemed to be sick (she would cough every now and then and spent the whole time sniffling). When it came to my nails, she chopped them so short and then kept cutting my cuticles to point of bleeding. (My cuticles still hurt, hours later!) After watching her drop her brushes several times and not bother to clean it, I just wanted to get out of there. So I let her finish. Paid for the extra bits of service I asked for and left. Then I looked at my nails! Many of the nails were filed lopsided and are shorter in the middle than on the sides. The paint job was splotchy and had big dollops here and there.
Many times you get what you pay for, and I won't ever use a coupon again. I will also go off of recommendations from friends of places to go. As for now, I'm looking for a good place to have solar nails done as my natural nails are beyond the point of looking good (if I was to file them correctly I would have no white tip remaining) for my upcoming vacation and engagement pictures :(
I would consider coming back to this place to try another of the gals there but it is too far from my home to make it worth it.
Another A+ – Tiffany bought the Salon just a few years ago and has transformed it. Very detail-oriented and client conscious. Make a call on your way to lunch or dinner (or just stop by) and Tiffany and staff will do their best to accommodate you. Beautiful nail care with a smle!
An A+ for Pearl Nails – Meticulous and beautiful nail care - will please the most critical. Tiffany never fails to impress me. She and her staff are courteous and it's always easy to get an appointment or do a walk-in. Her location is a big plus - right in the Pearl District, walk to great shopping and restaurants.
great nails – Finally, for the first time since I moved from NY have I had a manicure and all of the nails turned out the same shape. It was the first time that I left a manicure NOT thinking that I could have done a better job myself. Quality work, not overpriced.
Stay away... – The two folks working when I went in speak about 4 words of English between the two of them. I went in for a polish change on my toes. The lady working on me took a phone call on her call while doing the polish change. Needless to say, the polish job looked terrible...splotchy and uneven, all over my cuticles and surrounding toes. I've never been in a place where the staff is so incompetent and rude. Just absolutely the worst I've ever had. Place looked dirty, so I wouldn't have any real nail services done there.
