Best Cheesesteak – Another thing, slow service, what is wrong with you people, your getting a philly cheesesteak, it takes a while to cook and amazing cheesesteak. Stop complaining about the wati, or just go to mcDonalds if your so prissy about it. Good food takes longer, and there are usually only two people working, what do you expect, the famouse philly (my favorite) cost 6 bucks for a medium, its not a 5 star restuarant. You all make me angry. This is the best Cheesesteak you will ever have in Portland.
evily good grub, not worth staying to eat – This place is buried in NE Portland off of MLK and would easily be missed if it wasn't for the signage calling your name with the letters S T E A K. There's no convenient parking as it's situated on the corner. The adjacent parking lot makes you wonder if your vehicle will be towed while gone for the 5-10 minutes snagging some grub.
Ah, so you step inside and it's a rather austere environment with high ceilings and a wide open standing area with sparse 'waiting' seating against the walls and large floor to near-ceiling windows.
The counter is foreboding with the grill centered between the 'order here' and 'pickup here' sections.
This is not a place where one would sit and 'relax'. No, on the contrary, this is the kind of place that you simply dash in to, grab, and run. It's rather obvious when you look at the setup behind the counter. you get the impression that it wasn't really intended to be anything but a quick-stop shop.
Now let's think about that idea...'quick stop'. As mentioned by others, this place does not cater to fast service but staff doesn't seem to have any flash in their pants to step it up any more than they have to. Although I haven't had to wait 30 minutes for food at Steakadelphia, I've found myself pacing about restlessly.
So on the "dine -in" portion as well as the "speed of service" I don't give it all that much in the way of kudos.
Now the food....
I've sampled the A-1 philly and both the steak and chicken philly Supremes. What a person expects along the way of meat varies. They don't serve up thick cuts of succulent meat. It does indeed come 'diced' and mixed into the medley of other steaming ingredients. I personally find it maddeningly delicous food. Not a 5-star restaurant here, folks. It's the good stuff. The stuff that makes you feel bad afterwards while secretly telling yourself you'll be back for more.
Best advice yet is to grab a menu and keep it a home for an occasional to-go order.
Great Cheese Steaks, but bring the ear plugs! – My first time to Steakadelphia was over this last weekend. I must say, the menu is a little confusing at first, with lots of toppings listed, and was not quite sure what was on the sandwich to begin with. Once I figured out the ordering process, and placed my order for 2 sandwiches, it was quite a wait (15 min) for them to be done. Although they do have some limited seating, I would not reccomend it, as it was VERY loud in there, between the large fan they had blowing, and the echo of the cooks spatula banging on the grill, it sounded like I was in some sort of metal fabrication shop, and I was looking for the ear plugs, and safety glasses, hence any chards of metal come flying from behind the cook sation. As far as the quality of the food, it was very, very good. I got the simple cheeese steaks with the provolone cheese, and steakadelphia sauce, grilled onions. They are a little messy from the sauce they put on them, so if you are ordering to go, you best live close, or your steak may be pretty soggy. I opted to eat at one of the 2 sidewalk tables they had set up, so overall my Philly was pretty darn good. If you can call ahead your order, DO SO! I think I will be back, and try some of the many additional toppings you can add to your sandwich. Overall, a pretty good sandwich if you don't mind waiting.
Slow Service, Call It In – Ok so this is not Philadelphia, it's the west coast. not too shabby considering our geographic from where this sandwich was created. Slowest service ever but grab a menu and through it in the junk drawer. Make sure to call the order in. It is a bit greasy but hey, its steak and cheese what do you want? I always find it to be satisfying and anyone I have told about the place seems to have the same opinion. Enjoy.
Don't waste your time! – Immediately upon arrive, you're utterly confused by the menu which looks like it was designed by someone with an obsessive compulsive disorder. After they figure out that they should be taking orders, you wait, wait some more and again wait longer. Why does a single Philly take 30 minutes? The steak (if you want to call it that) was so chopped up and grilled that you could hardly tell it was once steak. It was a sloppy, salty mess.
Don't bother, you'll be very disappointed! I'd recommend either Ford's on 5th or either Philly cart downtown(cart row @ 5th & Stark or at Pioneer Courthouse square).
Slooooow service, very average cheese steaks, greasy, lame. – Here's the short of what you get at Steakadelphia. Slooooow service that's more of a take out, and very average cheese steak sandwiches. I've been there twice in the past 2 weeks. My visit yesterday was my last time to give Steakadelphia my business. The problem with Steakadelphia lies in the poor coordination of orders and getting them out in a timely manner. Both times I've been there I've walked up to the part of the counter that says "order here" only to have the cook behind the partly-obscured grill tell me "I'll be with you in a minute". So know this- both times I went there the cook also took the customer's order....both times it took about 3-5 minutes before I could even get my order in to the obviously over-worked cook. Huh? If that sounds like a strange way to coordinate your lunch rush, it is. I WASTED an entire 30 minute lunch break waiting me and my friend's food to be ready. We weren't alone. I counted 9 other people waiting just like us. 30 minutes to place and receive your order. Yep. 30 minutes.
On the food itself...meh. My friend ordered the cheese fries (featuring Cheez-Whiz, as advertised) and got a grease-soaked flimsy paper bag filled with "cheese"-covered fries. Not that we're above getting our fingers dirty, but that's a dumb way to do take-out. By the time I got back to my office (late!) to finally eat my lunch, my provolone-cheese steak with peppers and 'shrooms wrapped in tin foil was nothing more than a soggy, greasy bun with a very average portion of steak, despite it being touted as "extra meat". The meat itself was salty. And also it was cut in such tiny shreds....that...I don't know, it just wasn't good. Having to wait for 30 minutes? Average-average food that came to almost ten bucks for a Pepsi, sandwich and fries? You'll be much better going to the cart on SW 5th/Stark. Steakadelphia- not sure where you learned restaurant management, but your's is so bad that I wonder why people still buy your product. Not me.
