Best Of Portland – One thing that I love about Portland is the amazing diversity. Dalo's Kitchen is a wonderfully delicious addition to the diversity of Portland. If you're reading this and the other reviews, you can see that pretty much all of us who've eaten at Dalo's rave about it. My best recommendation is - go, try it, and judge for yourself. You wont be disappointed. I hope they stay open forever!! Go Dalo's and thank you for your delicious goodness.
Amazing Restaurant - Must Experience!! – This place is one of a kind in Portland. There are many other Ethiopian restaurants in Portland but I'll challenge you to find a finer place than Dalo's. Dalo's has the best combination of great food at an amazing value. I'm sorry the previous reviewer had such a bad experience but it clearly doesnt represent the norm at Dalo's. This is a hard working family owned restaurant, where they greet you with a smile and a warm atmosphere. Above all, Dalo's distinguishes itself by the quality of their food!! They have a small menu, but everything is good. You must try the veggie platter (small up to 2 individuals or large for 3 or more) - great for vegans and really filling. If you eat meat, you must have the Kitfo - I dont know what they put in it but it's mouthwatering beef tar-tar (you can have it cooked as you like) that packs a uniquely rich flavor. I can go on and on, but trust me, you will not be disappointed with Dalo's.
Terrible restaurant... – Terrible customer service I ever seen before...
I was so dissapointed them behavior.
I went there couple of times and everytime they serve food differently or forgot something.
I never go back this restaurant anymore.
Simply Delicious***Yum***Yum*** – I eat out at least 5 days a week, in the Portland area and I just have not been to a place that I enjoy more. Dalo's is, in my estimation, THE BEST VALUE in the Portalnd area. Dont come here expecting to be impressed by the ambiance, you may be disappointed. Come here with an appetite and you'll leave full and wanting more. The food is delicious and DIRT CHEAP! I dont know how they do it, but I'm not complaining. If you're a vegetarian, get the veggie platter which includes Spinach, two types of lentil dishes and a mixed veggie dish. If you're a carnivore like me, get the Kitfo - dont even look at the menu - trust me. Ideal for groups and even cheaper. I read the reviews here and went and I plan on eating at Dalo's at least once a week.
Good food, great value. Must try at least once. – Have been here a few times. The food alone is worth the trip, but the value is phenomenal. The vegetarian platter is consistently good (and I'm not vegetarian), and is just spicy enough. The injera was great. Top it off with the honey wine, and you've got a nice meal. A nice little relaxed place, albeit hard to find. There has even been live music, but I don't know when it is offered.
Wow!! Amazing Food – Just moved to Portland area and a friend brought me to this place. Truly a gem in Portland. I cant believe you can get food this great at this price! Definitely the best Ethiopian that I've ever had. I'll be there at least once a week - try the Kitfo and the Gomen (spinach) - but save some for me ;-)
Food = AMAZING!!
Decor = Tribal/ Ethiopian
Atmosphere = Cozy/ Social
Service = Good
$ = CHEAP!!
Menu = Simple/ Authentic
Recommendation = Must Go!
Best Ethiopian – I really like this place & I'll keep it simple:
- Great, quality food
- Very authentic but not just for connoisseurs
- Phenomenal value
- Solid service
You're really missing something if you dont try this place at least once- there's something for every palate.
Dalo's Or Bust! – By far the best Ethiopian in Portland!! Don't even bother with the rest, you're seriously wasting your time if you're looking for better quality ethiopian food. I've eaten (I think) at all of the Ethiopian restaurants in Portland and you'll not find a finer Kitfo, Awaze Tibs, Veggie Platter, Injera or any other dish. Dalo's has a small menu but everything is well done. Besides the quality, you cant beat the deal - a group of 4 will be hard pressed to spend more than $36 (and that's including a bottle of the delicious Honey Wine). Cool place to hang out with friends. Enjoy.
LUVING ME SOME DALO'S! – Awesome food! This place is great for groups. For four we shared the veggie combo and zilzil tibbs last night, along with a bottle of honeywine. The food was fresh, our server was friendly and informitive ( beautiful too:) i must add. We entered on the williams side of this bizarre building. But once we found it we were pleased.
Tough to find but worth it. – While it's very hard to find, it's well worth the search.
The berbere sauce has depth and good flavor. The meats are well prepared and tasty. Overall, the food is quite flavorful and in good portions. Their injera is wonderful - tangy and a melt-in-your-mouth sponginess. It's among the best I've tasted in Portland (and I've been on a bit of an Ethiopian binge lately..).
The service is welcoming enough. It's a fairly large space decorated with the usual Ethopian travel posters. The place is hard to find. While it's address is on N. Vancouver (a one-way south boulevard), the entrance is really on N. Williams (which is one-way north). It's in a big pink and white cinder block building just south of that houses a number of minority-owned businesses. If you can spot the building about five blocks north of Fremont, there's a faded sign on the Williams Street side. There's a parking lot on the Vancouver street side.
