Went for lunch – There are so many great sushi places in Portland and I was really hoping this would be one of them. The service was great and friendly, and it's in a great location. Having said that, our food was just okay. (I sorta feel like I need to go again after reading all of the great reviews). Maybe the fish was not as fresh as usual? I am not sure but this place did not impress me or my friend.
Best Sushi in Portland – This is easily the best sushi in Portland. Others are great but none compare.
Basically if you want freshest and most quality sushi with a chef who has over 30 years of experience, who won't sit stone-faced behind the bar, instead chat with you if you so choose...well, go.
Very good sushi - nice local joint! – We found this little local joint recently after trying Saburo's several times as well as a few others in SE Portland. We like more authentic sushi & rolls and find Saburo's to be way too big and fatty for our tastes. Yes, it's cheap and there is always a huge line but the fish is not too fresh and the pieces are stupidly large (I felt like I needed to bring my own sushi knife to deal with it).
Tani's is GREAT! Fish is fresh, the special rolls are interesting but not over the top, the price is right, the folks there are super friendly, and it's always very tasty! Try Tani's, you will not be disappointed!
Really good sushi, great environment, not too bourgie, just right for families, dates, or individuals! – oh my gosh....I love this place. The people are super nice, the place is super comfy. Spacious, great for a date or a family night! Perfect for both. Great for one person too...sitting at the sushi bar is always a treat. Great Sake too! Sushi is fresh, great serving sizes, and moderately priced. Awesome grill menu and appetizers (try the calamari tempura or the grilled salmon!) Try the Salmon Mango roll, if you're a vegetarian, try the macadamia nut roll (has cream cheese & basil), oh yeah and the eggplant tempura roll too! Big seaweed salad! Gotta try this place!
Fantastic Sushi Restaurant! – My husband and I took our 4 month old daughter here tonight for our 1st family dinner outside of the home. And it was fabulous! The atmosphere was inviting & modern, great Japanese decorations, and very kid-friendly. The service was excellent, and the sushi was superb. We especially loved the special Dragon rolls, and Rock N Rolls. My husband's favorite was the tuna. We are so happy to have found a fantastic sushi restaurant so close to home! We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!
Best Sushi in Portland! – Tani's is the best Sushi I have had anywhere! I have tried Sushi restaurants from Seattle to New York, and none have had the same quality that I have found at Tani's. His Sushi is the freshest and best tasting I have ever had, his BBQ Eel is truly outstanding. Tani is very exacting when purchasing his fish and has decades of experience in selecting the best fish for his Sushi.
If you are looking for outstanding Sushi, you must try Tani's. You will be hooked from the first bite!
He also has other outstanding Japanese dishes, for example his Tempura is always perfect. My wife and four kids always look forward to dinner at Tani's, everyone has their favorite dishes and his Fried Ice Cream is my kids favorite desert.
Eccellent food. Good athentic Japanese taste. – Service was quick and friendly for the 4 of us.Tempura was light and did not cover the taste of the shrimp or veg'eys. Made me want to schedule another trip to Japan ! ! !
GREAT SERVICE, PROMPT SEATING, GOOD PRICE, AMAZING SUSHI – Went there last night was blown away that I eat sushi all the time and had never tried this place. It was the best sushi I had in a long time. I don't even like bbq eel, however loved theirs. I had the dynamite roll and fresh albacore. This was the freshest sushi I have ever eaten. MUST GO!!!!
I love Tani's! – I love this place... willing to drive past the "other" sushi bars in Northwest Portland to Tani's because the service is friendly, the ambiance is relaxed and fun, and the sushi is wonderful. The rice is cooked to perfection. The fish is always fresh. Tani, the owner and head sushi chef, has a great attitude behind the bar and always willing to chat with us. I was so happy to find that it reopened after being remodeled.
