Several of us ate there Friday night most of us agreee we’ll never go back. Several ladies and I were seated at a table next to the bar area. Our server’s arms were covered in tattoos, sleeves rolled up as if to intimate us or impress us with all the ink. (one would think management would make waiters roll their sleeves down) He did neither and only embarrassed himself. I also noticed several piercings including his eyebrow and lip. Not something you like to look at while you’re eating. Considering how out server looked the service we received was just about what we expected. When he was around he constantly ran his mouth interrupting us with bs we didn’t want to hear that had nothing to do with the meal. He was constantly feeling around his nose, not pretty. It seemed he wanted to make himself part of our conversation. Just in case the management reads these reviews you might want to let the employees know that some of us gringos can speak Spanish. I won’t go into the disparaging comments our server was making to another server regarding an older couple sitting at the bar but they were very rude, lewd and inappropriate. The food was decent but the drinks overpriced and at best okay.
Love the spinach quesadilla – The spinach quesadilla is amazing at El Nopal. It has fresh spinach and mushrooms (not canned) and the dinner version comes with guacamole. It is delicious, inexpensive and goes well with the tasty chips and margaritas offered here. The service is super fast and the restaurant is well decorated, although the building is the back of a strip mall which is kind of nasty.
Not recommended – We decided to try this place out after seeing the reviews. We were getting tired of the place by our house that we've been going to for years. I was not impressed with El Nopal. First off, 2 of our 4 orders were completely wrong. The waitress even realized this when she looked at what she wrote down. So I don't know if it was her fault or the cook's. Second, they had live music going on that was very loud, making it difficult to talk to others at the table. Third, the booths were too small for 4 people. I had fajitas and took up almost the entire side of the table, leaving no room for my dad's food. Fourth, the website advertises Thursday dinner fajitas for $9.50. They charged us $13.25. When we asked her about this, the cashier said that it was no longer valid. Well they need to take it off their website then.
Followup: I contacted the manager about these issues and here was his response: "Hi Andrew, I will like to apologize for your bad experience, the order taking errors will be fixed ASAP. As for the fajita special it is $9.50 for all locations all day on Thursday."
So he acknowledges that we should not have been charged full price for the fajitas but does not offer to make up for it. Not sure how the order taking errors will be fixed.
Great place – This is a great typical mexican restaraunt. If you like Mexican food then you can not go wrong with this place. I recomend the chicken special nachos.
