IT'S NOT BBQ – if Mark's is all you have tasted, then I can see why people say Mark's is good bbq. I recently had the chance to try Mark's BBQ at the Baloon Festival, i had a pulled pork sandwich and fried sweet corn on the cob. The sandwich was dry, with very little flavor whatsoever. The pork was absent from the pink color that smoke pork usually has, and no outer crust was present, and there was no smoke flavor, which leads me to believe the meat WASNT smoked. It had to be rotisserie or baked. The fried corn on the cob also had no flavor, and was way too greasy, add some salt guys, it help!! Avoid marks at all costs, for some real BBQ, head to the Pit Stop on S 5th St.
Decent but certainly not great – This is garden-variety chain restaurant fare. Nothing special. Decent food at a decent price. I was quite suprised at the portion sizes though. VERY small. The "World's Biggest BBQ Sandwich" was so small I thought it was a joke. But it tastd good so no harm done. Bottom line - If you're looking for unique, go somewhere else. If you're looking for fast, cheap and average. Go here.
Fun Decor on Bardstown strip, Food okay – I ate here with some friends the other night. My burgoo (meat stew) was tasty, but my pork sandwich was a bit dry. Our server was friendly and we received our food faster than at any other place while in Louisville (the whole town seems to run a bit slowly). Overall, the food was okay, but nothing to rave about. My cup of burgoo, pork sandwich, and beer were $10.
Visiting from Milwaukee, WI – My family was very pleased with Mark's. As visitors we were looking for a local restaurant with Louisville flavor, and that's what we got! With the 'regulars' drinking beer at the bar and a roll of paper towels at every table, you know Marks has a casual setting. The service was great! The waitress was very nice and didn't frequent our table too much or too little; it was perfect. I ordered a sampler with chicken, pork, and beef. I thought all of the food was very good. However, my wife agrees they serve the best haystack onions we ever ate!!! The prices were very reasonable. It didn't bother me that the sauce is poured over the meat because they have bottles of their sauce at the table so you can add more flavor at will. I even bought a bottle of the brown sauce to take back home.
"Dixie Hwy Mark's is the best" – They have a great variety of Food: BBQ, great ribs, catfish, salmon, salads, and a big kids menu. The service is fast and freindly! Most all the waitresses have been there 5-10 years! Very down home atmosphere, great place for the whole family! Kids eat free on Tuesday nights and Mondays you get free dessert anything you want!
Fantastic BBQ – Delicious, tender meat, choice of two sauces, (we could not decide which we liked best), incredible wings, spicy & sweet at the same time. Excllent grilled vegetable salad, french fries and onion rings that were crispy and not at all greasy, plus you can spice them up more if you like. The Salmon Burger was wonderful for the one of us who did not want BBQ.
Additionally the service was great, friendly and informative. The restaurant was exceptionally clean and the decor was fun. Definately a place to go back to over and over again!
Consider yourself livestock that needs feeding. They dish out tender, hickory-smoked barbecue to a friendly loyal crowd at this barn. – The Scene
The original Shelbyville Road location really was, once upon a time, a livestock feed store. Tin signs advertising sheep dip and other relics from its past decorate the cinder block walls. Bare wooden rafters support the ceiling above while red T-shirt-clad servers dash around the dining room with change machines belted to their hips.
Start off with fried honey barbecue wings. Cayenne adds a pleasant kick to the sticky honey coating. Pulled chicken, pork and beef are hickory-smoked on-site and served dry. Bottles of the restaurant's mustard-based barbecue sauce or a spicy tomato-based sauce sit at each table. Ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender, but not as meaty as one might like. Sides include the addictive spicy onion straws, French fries, smokey beans and baked apples.
awesome bbq – laid back atmosphere, very homey. excellent food. ate there twice. only reason I haven't been back is because I moved to lexington.
Great Food, Great People – The people at Mark's feed store in the Highlands are fantastic. Steve (the manager) and his crew know how to treat the customers!
Tasty! – Mark's Feed Store is amazing - I would go back in a heartbeat.
