Wanting to take my husband out for Veterans Day, we made reservations at Pan E Vino. Pan E Vino changed owners a little while back and the management/customer service is unbelievably terrible.
We showed up five minutes late for dinner at Pan E Vino at which point we waited five minutes behind another group before the manager could be bothered to meet us. He sat the group waiting in front of us after establishing that we had 830 reservations. While waiting for the manager to return, three young women walked in. Upon returning, the manager collected menus, pushed us out of the way, hugged the women, and seated these new comers right away.
Now, we had been waiting twenty minutes at the front of the restaurant for our reserved seats. Furious, we decided to leave after informing the manager that we had been waiting long enough and we did not appreciate being rudely bypassed by the a group of newcomers. We then walk out the restaurant. At this point, the manager stands at the door and starts yelling, ranting, and swearing at my husband "I'm going to F*** you up!" He stands at the door screaming swear words, drunkenly slurring, and threatening to fight us as we were trying to walk away. A waitress had to call him back into the restaurant after he started loosening his tie.
Great Find – Wonderful experience
Very nice menu selection, great specials and very reasonable prices. Everything we ordered was excellent, even the salads were a cut above the rest.I have to say that the calamari from the grill, as the whole fish we ordered tasted really fresh and full of flavor. The food arrived quickly and delivered by a friendly, attentive, polite staff. My husband and I are sticklers for good service and Pane e Vino was a winner. You didn't have to search for your waiter, there was always someone close by more than willing to help with any questions or needs you might have.
Decor was warm and interesting, clean with plenty of room to spread out which is a rare find in a Carroll garden restaurant. Overall a great experience sure to please the most discerning diner.
Great service and atmosphere – Great Italian for SC, had a nice chat with the owner who is from Italy, actually used to own cortilderae down on King Street. The food is authentic, reasonable prices, a good spot for Italian while in Charleston.
Sub-medicore at best (and that's a stretch) – Typical italian restaurant of the south. Just Not authenic in any way, very bland tasting food, small (tiny!!)portions, all of which should be trademarks of good italian cuisine. If you are going to dare to get italian food in the low counrty your best bet is cortile de rae on lower King St.
Good authentic Italian fare, cozy atmosphere – Excellent Italian food that is reasonably priced. Try the cheese and meat selection for starters along with one of their crisp green salads. We tried several entrees and shared--all were delicious. Good wine list. Atmosphere was cozy and the outdoor patio is especially nice. Every table was occupied insdie and out when we were there. Althought the service was a bit slow, we had a fantastic server who made up for the long waits for our food and beverages. Even though we had a reservation, we ended up waiting almost 20 minutes for a table.
