Coconut Flan is the best!. Everything about this place was excellent the complimentary margarita, the chips came warm the salsa was very good, we had a party of 4 and tasted each others food, the tacos, the enchiladas, rice and charro beans was really good, i had the Oaxacan chicken and cannot wait to go back and have it again. The four of us were real happy and we will go back again, took home the coconut flan when we sat down to eat it i didn't think my husband was going to let me have any he couldn't stop eating it.
Best Chile Relleno Ever. We had four people in our party and we all sampled each others dishes. Everything was not just good, it was excellent! I was very impressed, especially after reading the previous reviews. Whoever wrote them must have been at a different restaurant. We had the Oaxacan Chicken, Chile Relleno, Dallas Plate and the Rio Grande plate. The hot sauce and chips were fresh and delicious! We also had a complimentary Margarita, which was yummy. The service was also very good, everyone was so friendly! I will definitely be telling my friends and family to try this restaurant!
Don't Waste Your Time or Money.
I had driven by this "hole in the wall" (there is a live oak tree outside and inside) tex-mex spot on the southwest corner of Preston & Royal and finally decided to stop by with my girlfriend on a Friday evening.
This is a cozy spot with some character---perhaps even a hidden gem in North Dallas?
Then I tasted the chips and salsa. There is a rule in Texas: If you don't care enough to put out fresh chips on the table, you know it gets even worse from there. And so it went.
Stale tortilla chips accompanied pedestrian salsa probably bought from the Tom Thumb grocery across the street. It took 10 minutes in this small place for our young waitress to even get our drink order. 10 minutes after we ordered our drinks, I gave our waitress a friendly reminder that we had some drinks on the way. Her response? "Yeah." And didn't do anything about it.
After a different server brought us our drinks, my girlfriends coke (it's BYOB here, by the way) was flat as a pancake. Given the stale tortilla chips, this was hardly a surprise.
Later, our initial waitress attempted to take our food order without writing it down, resulting in a messed up order. My girlfriend ordered chicken enchiladas with queso on top and a bean chalupa on the side. Simple order gone wrong. I ordered a chicken enchilada with ranchero sauce, a bean chalupa and a guacamole tostada, all of which was accompanied by canned rice and beans,
Folks, whether you're living in Dallas or just here visiting, life is too short to waste your time eating bad mexican food. There are far too many other good tex-mex places in this area and state to go to. As for Rio's, don't bother!
