I was with Startex for 3 years when I was in the army. During those 3 years, I never had a problem with them. My bill was always the same, add or minus $10. When I left, I was in a hurry, so I forgot to contact the company to tell them I no longer needed their services. 2 months later, I get a bill for $150. I contacted them and told them I already lived out of state but that I will be paying the balance. They emailed me back the following day and said it was all good, just email them a copy of my orders or current electric bill and I won't have to pay it. So I did and that was that.

The main reason I give them 5 stars is because I'm also comparing them to Puget Sound Electric (WA State) and TXU Energy. Both I've had problems with, problems that took to long to address.

startex power not doing great – this is my first experience with startex there are reason you should not consider to sign with startex power. one i am a student leaving in a 440 sqf studio, no washing & dryer my first invoice was 37.96 i was happy i told myself maybe this could be the right company second bill was 48.63 then third bill 75.79!!!! i am leaving alone and i try to not use the airconditioner that much, i might be cancelling my contract tommorow because if you think about it there is a 10.67 dollar increase between the 1st and 2nd month and 27.16 between the 2 and last month. My friend has a bigger appartment 660 sqft washer and dryer and he pay this price. Just to let you know i am hardly at home i am in class during the day. Finally i am leaving before my invoice get to 150 dollar by the fourth month.

I just tried to start a new service but... – the "salesrep" told me it would be faster to do it online. I tried to stop him to get a few answers and he just impatiently said, "ma'm just go online' How can you do business this way? That's how I found this site...People need to know!!! I tried to publish without a star but this site expects at least one star.

THEIR METER READER ARE BLIND!! BEWARE – Don't even think about signing up with this Electric Company, they move slow, they process slow and most of all their technicians or whoever reads meters are blind...

I signed up for electric for them, of course I know all the 6month contract pay 150 and so on..

They signed me up, and instead of reading the right meter number, they were reading my neighbors!! Of course my neighbor would switch back to his electric of choice. And so they sent me a notice that I called them and got disconnected which I never did, and they're asking 150dollars for it.

I told them I never made the call and I'm not paying 150 cause I intend to finish my 6 month contract, they switch me back, still they're reading the wrong meter. this had to go on for 4 months of me switching back and the real owner of the meter switching out, until one agent finally figured out that they had the wrong meter for my apartment!!! Duh how would i know they've got the wrong meter, I don't even know where those things are located??

Nevertheless, they gave me another account number, but the old account number under my name never got cleared and they even sent it to collections and they call me twice a day?? Duh!! its not my freaking fault that everything got screwed, it their fault and im not paying for their fault???

I called and called and called them to get this fixed, actually i called them more than I was calling my mom or grandma--- but it fell of deaf earsss... no result.. they

still call me and collections even emailed me, even though I have already talked to the collections officer in person!!!

They're deaf and blind--- never trust them on your electric! I had a hell time with them and still am until my contract ends for another 6 months-- I can't wait!!!!

StarTex power, use them. – I had Spark. The contract ended and rather than go to their published month-to-month rate of 12.8, they began to charge me an unpublished rate of 15.5 cents which I learned only after receiving the Bill.

So.. I did some research and I switched to StarTex, which is owned by the former president of the Gexa crooks. They started their own company 5 years ago because Gexa is terrible.

They were EXTREMELY helpful on the phone. First, they explained that the ONLY 2 fees charged on top of the FLAT RATE of 10.1 cents on their 6 month contract were a $4.99 fee charged ONLY IF you go below 500 kwh, which we never do in a house, and a $3.24 TDSP fee. Plus their early termination is half of Spark's. They also do a soft credit check, so it wont count as an inquiry. Furthermore they only charged me $6 for an expedited switch (5 days), so I didnt have to wait til the NEXT billing cycle. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS small fee if you are ever switching. Additionally, I used GOSTAR promo code and got $10 off the 2nd month. The customer rep even walked me thru the website on the phone to get the discount!

YOU GET A PAPER STATEMENT WITH NO EXTRA COST! You can pay your bill online with credit card or bank draft or at any Wells Fargo with NO EXTRA FEES. This is a BIG BIG deal as most other providers require you to either set up an automatic bank draft, or credit card charge, OR they charge you a convenience fee to use a credit card or pay as you go. Also, most others charge you for a paper statement!!! Gexa doesn't even HAVE the ability to view your statement online!!! StarTex's website is GREAT, easy to use, and you can check your bills and usage anytime and pay online or just mail a check.

I dont know where these other reviewers are getting the extra fees from, but most of the negative reviews are where they asked for new service in apartments then cancelled. Trust me, these StarTex guys are the EASIEST to work with. Ive used several others and most of them are sneaky and uncaring.

Just go to the powertochoose website if you dont believe me.

Their Energy Facts label has no other fees, plus they are very low on the complaint scale. I think they are a great home residential provider (so far).

NO I dont work for them. But I will NEVER use Gexa or Spark anymore!

Billing Issues – I have had no major issues with StarTex and was able to get a good contract rate for a year. My main problem with them is that they take an additional 5 days to clear your payment whenever you send it. I have never had this trouble with any other utility or service, and it has cost me a couple of late fees.

Overcharging, Arrogant, Aggressive, – They add additional charges to your bills and call them equipment upgrades. They calculate the Kwh usage to make you think you are saving money with them when in reality you are paying more than what your contract rate is when you add in their additional charges. Their collection service is very arrogant and comes across that you owe them the world. Glad I switched to another company. They don't deserve the one star but I had to give a rating to post the review

Beware!!Never go for Star Tex. Horrible Customer Service – This is about Early Termination fee for Account# 97712.

I requested for service from StarTex,how ever I could not move to that apartment as the apartment was damaged because of hurricane.During that period,I moved to another apartment and requested StarTex to transfer my connection to my new apartment, but because of hurricane StarTex could not provide me power during that period and I requested for cancellation of service and I was said the service is cancelled and there is no dues from me.

After this I used to get calls on my cell for many days regarding non payment.I never received any bill in my apartment address. When I requested customer care, I was said I am getting call by mistake and my number will be removed from the list.

Again after some days I started getting calls and again when I requested customer care, they helped me looking at my account and I was said there is a 3 days charge to my account and I have to pay that. So I paid an amount of $23.38 though I have not used service from StarTex for a single day.

Now I received a letter saying there is an early termination fee of $150.00 to be paid for this service.

When I contacted customer care, i got the below response after 5 days.

Thank you for contacting Star Tex power. In regards to your early termination fee I spoke with Greg in our collections department and he states the fee will stand. A switch was processed on your account. If you want to further discuss the fee you can contact Greg in collections at ext 2501 at 866-917-8271.

However I could not find this person after calling 5 times.

Beware!!Never go for Star Tex.

Terrible Customer Service – Yesterday morning I signed up with StarTex Power by internet for the reasonable rate of 11.6? per KWH for 12 months. Later that same day, my apartment arrangement fell through, so I cancelled my electricity. Today I'm told I'll be charged for three days of service even though the service was never connected. Yea, you read that right! FYI, service was initially scheduled to begin tomorrow. The billing person was VERY insistent. I MUST PAY FOR THREE DAYS, PERIOD.

When I do find my new apartment, you can be sure I?ll avoid StarTex Power like the plague!!! They seemed cheap up front, but after my own experience, and reading all the crappy comments about them here, I now know better. Whew! I probably dodged a real bullet there!

Try Someone Else – Startex customer service is poor, their rates vary from what they initially explain and are known to "fish" their consumers. Their budget billing isn't budget at all, they will tell you they will just increase your bill each month but at the end of the year have a large difference to pay up and then 15 days. It's just not a good company, with so many options now go with someone else, someone you can trust.
