Don't Go... Learn from my mistake. – It was my birthday and I decided to be a tourist in my own city. I went downtown and spent the better part of the day on the River Walk. I took the boat tour, ate lunch at the Rainforest Cafe and finished my day at the Alamo.
Everything was great except my experience at the Rainforest Cafe. Upon my arrival, the hostess tried to sit me right upfront where everyone was coming in and going out. I told her I did not want to sit there and then she brought me to the very back where the wait staff was going in and out of the kitchen. She told me she had no other areas open yet I could see that customers were dispersed throughout the restaurant.
I ordered a chicken and veggie plate. It took over 30 minutes for my food come out. In that time, my waitress did not check on me once. When my food did arrive, the waitress put it down and walked away. She never asked if I wanted a refill on my now empty drink. I proceeded to eat the chicken and it was cold, very cold.
I waited for the waitress to walk back by to catch her attention. I told her that my chicken was very cold and she took the plate away. A few minutes passed and who I can only assume was a manager came over and apologized. She proceeded to ask me if I wanted a bowl of soup while I waited for the kitchen to prepare a new dish. I said that I would just like a refill on my soda.
About 10 minutes went by and my new plate arrived at the table. the veggies and mashed potatoes were great. They really were seasoned just right. However, the chicken was disgusting. I took a couple of bites and ended up spitting the food out on the plate. It was rotten and very tough. It ended up taking about 45 to 50 minutes before my food arrived and what I did eat (the eatable portion) took about 3 minutes to finish off.
At this point, I pushed the plate forward and waited until I could get the attention of the waitress again. She asked me if my new plate was better. I smiled and said, "I'm ready to pay."
Overall, my experience at the Rainforest Cafe was terrible. I felt as tough I had been treated like an unwanted inconvenience by the hostess, the waitress was incompetent or just didn't care about me as a customer and the main part of my meal was cold the first time around and rotten and tough the second time. If I could give a 0 star rating, I would!
Overpriced and They try to Jack up the Food Bill – 30 minute wait to get seated.
Lots of tables not being used so didn't know why there was even a wait.
Ordered the burger. Asked "Do you want fries with that?"
Sure right? It comes with it right?
No - fries are $1.25 more but the server doesn't tell you that.
It comes with chips as a part of the price.
Server is trying to jack up the food bill not assist you in making a selection and being upfront. This is substandard.
The food was overpriced. The wait was too long.
Felt like being nickled and dimed at every corner of the restaurant.
Kids LOVE going here. Expensive though – Great dining experience with kids. Many neat photo ops with all the animated animals. Super pricey for what you get. But fun time had by all
GOO TO THE RAIN FOREST IN SAN ANTONIO GREAT TIME – Well we called made reservations. We had grandmother with us she could not walk down a lot of stairs, the staff was so helpfull opened up the street door so we could go in that door. I am telling you the whole lunch was very nice the food was great, I can not complain about the price no higher thatn anywhere else. The young lady that waited on us was very helpfull her name was Jenny. Thank you so much had a wonderful time. So my advise is to call ahead of time let them know you will be there.
TOO expensive – The food is not very good especially for the price. There are so many kids in there you can barely hear yourself think. The wait is always way too long and you most likely have to sit outside on the riverwalk or stand and it is usually super hot and uncomfortable during the summer.
Be ready for poor service and broken atmosphere – We are new to San Antonio, so in our first week as new residents of this great city we went to explore the riverwalk selecting this restaurant due to our two kids.
We waited the 45 minutes to get seated (whcih is fine, its busy on the weekends) and were seated on the third floor. We noticed most of the animals were not working up on this floor. The management should really have them replaced.
Our waiter was missing in action, we noticed another family being seated over 5 minutes after we arrived. Their waiter ended up being ours. Although he never made it over to us, my husband went to seek out someone to take our order. An employee in a white shirt took our order. (we discovered the male waiter was ours when he was the one ot bring the drinks. One of the drink orders was wrong for our son.....the waiter took it away. The employee in the white shirt came back to the table after the waiter approached her, this time she had an aire of annoyance....we got it! Your here to protect the waiter, wasked please just give us a different server. Which they did do. We got the bill, were charged for all drinks including those not even left at the table. Are you serious? tacky people, poor customer service....for what they charge no excuse to not have the place in good repair.
We won't be back!
A visually stimulating McDonald's quality food for $60 – I have actually had MRE's that taste better than this junk. Their "Awesome Appetizer" (list price: $14.99) was terrible. The spinach and artichoke dip is almost indescribably unappetizing. The chicken tenders on the Awesome Appetizer must have been deep fried with sawdust and brown sugar. At least the water was free and didn't taste bad. After a while, the moving, screaming gorillas became rather irritating, but I guess that's because we couldn't get any sort of timely service. Also, the kid's meals were equally appalling. Y'know those dinosaur shaped chicken-product nuggets you can get in a kid's frozen dinner? Yeah, that's what you get. along with a bruised banana. The mini-hamburgers came with three strips of carrot that, together, wouldn't add up to be 1/4 of a carrot. Each of those meals are $5.99, as I recall. A quarter-pounder with cheese meal would be more satisfying and cheaper. Get real, RFC. I expect your business will be run out of San Antonio by 2013.
Cool Place for the Family – Food was very good. Waiter was Excellent. There did seem to be confusion over our seating. We were sent to the 3rd floor, then the second..then back to the first..... We were a party of 9 with young children and we put in a spot where it was a tight squeeze to get by us. Overall we had a good time and would go back.
A fun place to eat at. – We just visited Rainforest Cafe here in San Antonio for the first time tonight 2/21/09. This was to celebrate my grandaughter's 11th birthday. We did make a reservation and did have to wait just a few minutes for them to seat us at a table. We were waited on fairly promptly. The server took our drink order and served us very quickly. Our food came in a reasonable amount of time. The food was very good. It is a bit pricey compared to a fast food resturant but we did not feel it was out of line. The resturant is very entertaining for children as well as adults.
I think for the type of resturant this is and the location of it, I would say we had a very good dining experience.
Ok food, long wait – The initial wait was long, about an hour but that was expected, so that wasn't upsetting. What was upsetting was that it took nearly 15 minutes for the server to great us, only to say "I'll be with you in a minute". So we waited about 5 more minutes. By the time he came back we were ready to order our main course. He took our order and we continued to wait about 30 or so minutes. When he finally came back with the food he brought the other people I was with their food, and asked if I was allergic to shrimp because they had put some on by mistake (I asked for no shrimp on my meal). I said no that I just didn't like shrimp so he said ok, and that it should be right out. I ended up waiting about 8 more minutes for my food to arrive. The server was very nice and professional, it was just all the waiting I had to do for food that was not superb that was upsetting.
