I have never had any of the problems that a few other reviews claim. I've been eating at Thai Pikul for 3 years now and usually go at least twice a week. This place is that good.
Give it a try; you will not be disappointed! =)
the best thai restaurant in san antonio! – This place has been my favorite for a long time.
I go there at least once a week, the food is really great, and I love the atmosphere too. My favorite is basil chicken, it has excellent flavor! Try this place, and you gonna love it!
Great Thai Food! – I went for lunch to Thai Pikul. It was in the middle of the lunch rush and the room was packed. I found a table and was immediately greeted by my waitress, thinking the kitchen was going to be busy I ordered the Red Curry Noodle with Chicken right away. I would have expected to wait for food at any restaurant but here the food was out within 10 minutes. The curry was EXCELLENT! It was spicy, rich with flavor, and tasted fresh. The server was attentive and had my check ready when I was done. In all, I had an excellent lunch and was back on my way in 35 minutes. Will definitely be back!
RUDE service – We went to Thai Pikul with a coupon from restaurant. com that we had purchased within the month, and the owner came out and yelled at us that he was no longer honoring the coupons. He didn't try to tell us politely, or explain why. It was so loud that other customers were staring at us. We were humiliated. There are so many great Thai restaurants in the area that this owner should be working very hard to ensure customer satisfaction. We will never return. I have heard from others that the owner has been like that before.
By the way, Sarika's on Medical is both good and friendly. They know the valus of a good customer!
Not a favorite... – Love thai food, heck all kinds of asian food, but this place was only so so. The flavors are there but the spices are weak. Asked for super spicy got mild. Had the beef curry (pnang), the sauce was so thick it was like paste and the rice was overcooked (gluey). The spring roll was crispy but there was hardly any filling plus the roll was placed on sweet honey like sauce. What about people who don't want the sauce? Servings are skimpy and service was bad. Most thai restaurants have hot peppers and fish sauce on the table so eaters can season their food. None here. It was not busy only had five tables but the waiter never refilled my tea or gave me my check. The other waitress cleaned the table next to me got her tip , asked for a refilled never got it. Had to go to the counter to pay never saw the waiter again. Where is the bill? Really poor service.
Best Thai – I love this place, I've gone to several other thai restaurants around san antonio and this one is my favorite, the food is excellent, tasty, the noodles perfect, I love their pad wonsen, I eat at least once a week there. Yummy.
always excellent! – i eat here all the time and have taken numerous friends here who eat thai food all over the world and we all love it. im dreading the day when i move and cant eat here all the time. and the staff are so nice, im surprised its not busier.
Take-out nightmare. – Thai pikul has mild ambiance, competent wait staff, and, on average, passable food. However, I have been beyond appalled by the take-out service I have received on two separate occasions. The first time, I could quite literally pour several tablespoons of oil out of the noodles. The curry was flavorful but runny, and I thought someone had eaten three fourths of my rice. I kid you not: in a regular sized styrofoam take-out container -- the type one might put a side dish or dinner rolls in -- there was less than 1/4 C of cooked rice. On the second occasion, the same curry had sour meat, and I was surprised to learn that the rice portion I had received on my first visit was not a fluke -- it was policy. I'm curious to know what kind of mental defect is necessary to scoop out an admittedly generous portion of questionable meat curry, then proceed to dole out rice by the teaspoon. Am I supposed to consume the dish like soup?
Of all the strong Thai restaurants we have in San Antonio (in the medical center alone!) -- Sawasdee, Thai Taste, Siam Thai, Thai Topaz, "Thai Restaurant," -- I am astonished that this place has any business at all. I will not eat here again. But if you do, perhaps you should dine in. You might well ask for an extra portion of rice -- that is if you care to finish your food in the first place.
Great food and service – This is some good stuff. They serve great thai food here. It is crowded during the lunch time on weekdays. Try the vegetable fried rice, it is one of the best I have had. The service is great. I have reviewed thai taste too, which is like 2 miles from this place, but the waiting staff in thai taste can learn a lot from the service offered by Pikul. The only bad thing here is the quantity of food in the lunch menu is very less, so please do not go there if you are very hungry during lunch time.
Outstanding Thai Food. Best kept secret in San Antonio – My family can't get enough of this place. Every dish is really delicious, and the portions are large. The tom yum soups are some of the best I've ever had. All of the noodle dishes are quite good. Service is friendly, fast, and tolerant of my finicky young kids. Jane always remembers my name and asks after the children when I grab takeout. The food is always very fresh. At dinnertime, when we go, it its quite empty. I hope that this medical center area restaurant at least has a strong lunch crowd to keep it afloat. It would be a shame to lose the best Thai food in town.
Take note of their spicy scale when you order 1-5 (5 being spiciest, 1 being not hot at all). I order 2 for myself, and it has quite a kick. I recommend only real heat lovers go for the 4 or 5 level.
