Amazing menu – I've been to Amore Victoria three times in the past six months or so, and it has been fantastic every time. The menu is extensive, but everything my groups (I've gone with at least 8 people, different people, all three times) have ordered has been fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the gnocchi with pistachio. It was rich and delicious. The creme brulee was tasty, and the key lime pie martinis were stellar. The wine-drinkers were also pleased with their selections. Some of my family's cocktails were a little too strong when we went, and it was a little noisy in the bar section, but those are really the only negatives I could possibly come up with. I will definitely be returning.
Great food and wine specials – We have been to Amore Victoria 5 times over the past few years and every time we have been there we walk away full, happy and excited to go back. My most recent trip there I ordered the Pollo Portobella. It was a chicken dish that was absolutely amazing. The sauce is made from a perfect blend of white wine, garlic, butter and balsamic. The orzo pasta was cooked perfectly and had some bell peppers in the mix (I typically don't like peppers, but these were not over powering, had just the right flavor.) It has an outstanding and unique flavor while also being subtle. My fiance got the Lobster Ravioli and thinks it's one of the best italian seafood dishes he's ever eaten. Each seafood gives a distinct flavor so you can differentiate between the shrimp, scallops and lobster. The last two times we went he had the Gnocchi con pistachio e gorgonzola, once again a winner, if you like the flavor of pistachios you will think it's phenomenal. The service was alright (3.5 out of 5) nothing special. This restaurant focuses more on the food than glitz. I would not recommend this place for small children. It is good for large groups and happy hour, I threw my fiance a surprise birthday party in their cellar downstairs. Also, from Sunday to Tuesday there are half off bottles of wine. I would have to recommend the Marques bottle (a white wine) for $15 on half-off night. All in all, it's a great value, you end up walking out of there with a wonderful tasting experience without breaking the bank. Our check has been between $35 - $65, one includes just two entrees, the other includes two entrees, 4 glasses of wine and dessert. This is my favorite italian dish, however, my experience in Minneapolis is limited and I have not gone to the top italian restaurants, like Bellanotte.
A fantastic dining experience! – When my birthday came I thought Amore Victoria would be a great place to have dinner. We were greeted with a friendly hello as soon as we walked in the door, seated promptly and shortly after greeted by our server with glasses of water in hand. The menu is big. While we were exploring the menu our server came with a basket of delicious fresh baked bread, some parmesan and dipping oil. We nibbled while we decided on dinner.
We started with the calamari. This calamari was quite possibly the best I've ever had. It was tender, not overcooked, with a fresh and soft flavor and it literally melted in your mouth. Delicious!
For main courses, I had the Agnolotti Alla Lobster & Shrimp and my date had the Pollo Bianco. Mine was beautiful. There were 3 lobster ravioli, 3 shrimp and 3 crab leg portions. The lobster ravioli was great, with a sweet flavor. The shrimp were perfect and the crab was so juicy! The only downfall was cracking the shell; I didn?t want to waste any of the delicious sauce on the outside! The sauce was fantastic! A cheesy creamy flavor explosion, laced with fresh garlic and brandy. The caviar sprinkled over the dish was not overpowering, it added a great, salty kick, as well as giving the dish a wonderful look. My date?s entree was a large helping of pasta with tender pieces of chicken and flavorful mushrooms with prosciutto covered with a creamy sauce. It had a wonderful earthy flavor; the different ingredients really stood out in the right ways. Our server suggested the Chardonnay on the half priced list. It was a wonderful addition. And desser!. My date chose the chocolate cheesecake and I chose the cannoli, filled with a wonderful cinnamon sweetened cheese. We also had coffee. The coffee was very fresh. It went well with my cannoli. My date loved his dessert choice. It was firm and extremely creamy. The desserts were very well presented. All in all Amore Victoria is a wonderful place! It was a very relaxing and delicious Birthday. We will be back!
Wouldn't go Back – I wanted to like this place. I really did. I just couldn't. The menu is incredibly ambitious and looks great on paper, but their inability to execute totally did them in. We were seated immedietly and endured good service the whole night, but the food was a total misfire the whole way through. I would never have expected to recieve a plastic glass in a place like this, but sure enough, there it was. We ordered the fried Calamari. We were served rubery pieces of squid that were hardly fried - the texture was horrid. The product, breadding and sauce was all inferior. And for whatever reason they decided to put an appetizer portion on a full on dinner plate (entree portions are HUGE). The protion was right, but to put it on a huge plate made it look ridiculous. Zero points for presentation. We then split the Mandarin salad which was pretty much a sea of soy sauce and some odlly textured greens. The water chestnuts were about as crisp as a month old stalk of celery. The chicken served on the salad felt as if Cisco had delivered it a monther earlier and all they had to do was thaw out the pre sliced product. Our entrees looked great on paper. I had the Chicken Scarpeli. The chicken was far from the "Medallions of chicken breast" claimed on the menu, it was actually stripped breast (same as the salad) - which didn't taste as if it was sauteed with the rest of the ingredients. The italian sausage in the dish felt more like the pre-cooked Hillshire Farm variety. Nothing melded together, all the flavors were seperate and did not work - as if the ingredients were simply tossed together and had spent zero time integrating before they were plated. When I think about food, I think about several things... presentation, texture, aroma and taste. I think they missed on all of the above. Maybe my expectations were too high, but regardless, it was a real miss. It's too bad. Like I said, I rteally wanted to like it, but the meal was memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Consistently Great – I have dined here several times and have always been pleased with both the food and the service. And the ambiance speaks for itself...rich,cozy decor and great music. The only valid compaint I have is that the parking lot is sometimes full..however, it's one of the only places with parking in uptown, so maybe its not that valid. I love the Shiitake dish with gorgonzola and rosemary MMM. I think the previous reviewer needs to return. I think their experience was just a fluke as all the other reviews of this restaurant are extremely positive. Anyway I would recommend this place to anyone who has not tried Amoe Victoria yet...
Terrible dining experience – I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the best thing I can say about this place is that the chairs are comfortable. We began our experience at Amore Victoria being told that the reservation that we made a week in advance didn't actually get saved in their computer. The host was very nice and appologetic and we were able to get a table after a short wait at the bar. The mixed drinks from the bar however, were weak and tasted like candy or soap depending on your selection. We were then taken to our table that was by an emergency exit and quite drafty. The wine list was great and did have several good selections that were affordable. But when the wine was brought to our table the waiter could only find two glasses and left the unopened bottle at our table while he went to try and fine a third. Apparently it is common for the place to run out of clean wine glasses during a dinner rush. We had to ask twice for silverware and napkins and didn't get them until after our appetizer was gone. Oh and the apptizer we ordered was the roasted pepper one and it was so salty that it was barely edible. The entrees were good as long as you stuck to the specials list, but the eggplant florentine was terrible -- the dish was mainly pasta, you couldn't taste the thin slice of eggplant under the massive amount of mozzarella cheese and where was the spinach exactly??? Wanting to end our evening on a good note we opted to order dessert -- the Creme Brule and cappuccino. The dessert was served first and it tasted good, but we were purplexed to find that it was cold as it had just come from the fridge. The coffe wasn't served until the dessert was nearly gone and while it was hot, it was also watery and not very good. Needless to say the service was ill-timed at best. Perhaps if sat in someone elses section at a different table and ordered different things we would have had a 5 star experience, but I would say you are rolling the dice when chosing to dine at Amore Victoria.
Authentic Italian cuisine – This place is so charming you will feel like you are in a mama/papa boutique restaurant in the north of Italy. One of the things I really appreciate is the authenticity. It is not the usual predictable red sauce/spaghetti eatery that most Americans call Italian. This is not a corporate run noodle warehouse. It is the real deal. Incredible menu choices and wines. I have to admit I usually order the same thing because I love it so much. The veal piccata. Savory lemon sauce with huge artichoke hearts and capers. You will find Italian menu choices not available in most so called "Italian" restaurants. This is owned and operated by a couple who know their stuff. The atmosphere is wonderful. Very old world. Beautiful murals and pillars. You won't want to leave. You'll want to live there. Plus the staff is uber friendly!
Very nice! – I wish I had known this place had been here earlier! The food is so warm and delicious. There is too much to choose from however on the menu..we stuck with the Chef's Page items. The Risotto with Fried basil leaves was scrumptious. Also delicious was the tenderloin and Pumkin-Squash ravioli...the sauce was incredible. Beautiful ambiance with some creative touches..like the hand-laid cracked tile at the bar with the vintage wine squares...
Refreshingly Unique – In a city that seems to be moving toward modern stainless steel restaurants and high-profile, pretentious eateries, Amore Victoria is a breath of fresh air. Charming mohagany wine bar, rustic floors, rich colors, and a cozy wine cellar with a fire place make this a perfect dinner destination,especially in fall/winter season, --however, floor to ceiling windows, a bar that gives you a view (as well as an outdoor patio),and it's proximity to Lake Calhoun make this place equally inviting in the summer.
The menu is huge, however a page consisting of top-sellers definitely helps out. We were also handed a "chef's page" by the hostess consisting of some great seasonal plates, including a lemon peel tilapia, and a wonderful ceviche (not sure why a Spanish dish is on the menu, but I won't complain as I thoroughly enjoyed it). Also on the page was a summer gazpacho soup which I didn't try but looked tasty.
My dinner companions ordered off the regular menu. An olive and goat cheese appeitzer, Sea Bass Piccata, and Tortellini alla Panna all were outstanding . Freshly baked Italian bread made it to our table just in time, however try not to spoil your appetite on this irresistible rendition. Save some to eat with your meal. We finished off with a delicious homemade tiramisu and freshly prepared fruit tart.
Next time I will come for the half-priced bottles of wine Sun-Wed. The Happy Hour looks great as well.
I highly recommend this place to anyone who is getting bored of the same old over-advertised, coldy built restaurants, and their menus that try too hard....leaving you thoroughly uninspired.
Great for couples or groups – My wife planned a surprise dinner for friends who became recently engaged. We were expecting a few tables pushed together but instead we were set up in the basement level in a private room. The staff were alert and didn't give away the surprise leading the couple-to-be downstairs. Our server was great. He had a sense of humor, lots of patience, and just the right amount of knowing when to check on us and when to hang back. The food was delicious and everyone had leftovers. We never felt rushed to finish up the night. Even though I was in a bigger group (7 people) it does look like a romantic place for a date. I was so happy with the experience.
