Decent food, horrible service and consistency – The sandwich's are usually very good, but the location on the hill suffers from consistency problems.
They go by the rule "anything goes" so if your a vegetarian or cannot eat meat then stay away from this establishment. They slice the meats and cheeses when you order, and they NEVER clean the slicer between items.
in the past employees havent been good examples of cleanliness, my friend went in to order a sandwich, and the employee outside extinguished his cigarette on his hand, then went inside without washing his hands and proceeded to make his sandwich.
Also there "makeline" where they assemble all of the sandwichs, is really sloppy with bits and pieces from previous sandwichs, so dont be surprised to find pieces of tomato or condiments you didnt order on the bottom of your sandwich.
In addition to these sanitation problems, they have no order system, so the best thing to do is to call in advance, otherwise your gonna be scratching your heads wondering how/who to ask to place your order. And if you ask them where to order you usually get a sharp retort saying that they are ready to take your order although this is never made clear to the customer.
Bread quality varies, but is usually pretty good.
The most disorganized restaurant in Boulder. – First off, my biggest complaint about Salvaggio's on the Hill is the ridiculously poor service. It's as though there's no one in charge of the super-young staff. You jostle your way to the tiny counter, place your order, and then have to fight to get what's yours. You're not given a number and they don't take your name. As a result, I've seen people claim sandwiches that aren't theirs, while the rightful owner waits and waits and waits.
And, though orders are taken in one order, the food is made haphazardly and at random. So, someone who walked in five minutes after you may very well get their food in front of you. It's absurd.
Also, this location is frequently out of such basic ingredients as bread, steaks, and tomatoes. Just this morning I tried to order a breakfast sandwich, only to have it handed to me on a sub roll. Turns out they had run out of the breakfast rolls, but no one bothered to mention that to me.
My final complaint is that the quality of the food at Salvaggio's doesn't warrant all this inconvenience. In fact, the egg and cheese I received this morning was so bad (way too much pepper, runny eggs, bad bread) that I took two bites and threw it away.
That place needs both better management and employees who take a little pride in their product. I've given them more than a generous three strikes. They're out. I won't go back.
