Worst place ever! – I went there trying to sell some brand new clothes still with the tags on them named brands (amerian eagle, & BKE) a full bag of them, they didnt take any & told me they were more than 8 months old but i had just boughtn them.
They are rude and just a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE store ever. I will never go there again. The staff are very rude young kids who dont know anything, & are super unfriendly.
I have seen the same item in there store that I was trying to sell that was worn down, dirty and faded in color. but mine were brand new with tags and they had told my mine were too old.
Never go there.
Plato's Closet is wonderful. You can buy like, fourteen outfits for the same amount of money you would pay for one and a half outfits brand new from the mall. And if you know how to look, most of the time you can get your fourteen outfits in practically brand new condition! That's really the only thing is you have to look because it IS a used clothing store and so everything on every rack is different, but they also get new stuff in EVERY DAY so if you don't find what you want the first time, maybe next week when you go in you will find what you're looking for. You never know what you'll fall in love with at Plato's!!
If you plan on selling your clothes though, you can't go in with any hopes or expectations of making full value of your item back, because it won't happen. The store has to make a profit too, and they explain their whole buy process to each customer when they come in. They price everything at a huge percentage off the original retail price, and then give you (the seller) about a third of what the store is going to sell it at. So you can't expect to make a whole lot off of selling your clothes unless you bring in a LOT and it's in good enough condition for the store to re-sell it and the label is current enough. Their standards change almost every month it seems because sometimes a shirt will be ok and then other times it won't be it just depends on what the store needs. And I can understand where some of these other customers are coming from because there have been times where I go in and I'm told the wait is about 20 minutes and then 45 minutes later, they're done with my stuff. But if you stay up at the front and watch them, they have to leave what they're working on every time a new person comes in, to check their stuff in and explain everything to them and sometimes they do get a lot of people in all at once and so sometimes the wait time changes without us knowing about it. They're only human too.
Conclusion? Plato's rocks my socks off!! I love this store and what they do for their customers. =)
Thanks so much for your review. We hope to see you again soon! We have some amazing tanks and summer dresses in right now.

BEWARE! – O.k. First of all I need to say that my 14 year old loves this store. Now having said that, I will say that I will NOT try to do business with this store again. I thought I would re-sell some of the things my 14 year old had bought from Plato's closet back to them. They had been outgrown and worn maybe a couple of times and they were purchased less than a year before. I thought no problem. WRONG!!! First of all, I have never been treated so badly in my life by someone who is younger than I am and thinks they know way more than I do, and I have a teenager living at home. To the worker who posted the article, check your attitudes at the door. The little snot who went through the things I took in literally ripped through everything, turning a very neat pile into a huge jumble, that I had to re-fold just to get out of the door. She even threw part of it away and I had to ask for it back! I was told, as she was looking down her nose at me, that all of the items I had were way to old for them to consider buying them from me. I was shocked as most of the items had come from that store only a few months before. I honestly didn't know what to say as I was so incredibly floored. I found an identical item in their store that was in the things I took in. They may be o.k. to buy from, but don't expect them to be friendly or even fair. Customer service is not high on their list of priorities.

Horrible!! – I went there and I agree that the one on academy is a mess and very unfriendly staff! They have clothes that are stained, missing buttons, and very faded! I also think they need to get people in there that actually know something about fashion and what is and isn't in style. I myself will never go through such a mess again!
Helllloo!! Its a Thrift store!! – I Love Plato's Closet! Every time I have gone there the people have been really nice, when was the last time you went to goodwill and they offered to help you find something or to take your clothes to the dressing room? It is however a thrift store, which means you do need to dig through and sometimes you will not find anything you like but there are great things to be found in there :) there are somethings that are more worn, but guess what don't buy it then. they are constantly moving new things out, so you have to keep going back to look. plus they do have a system, the problem is shoppers walk around with one item decide they don't want it and then put it back wherever they are standing.
I would encourage you to check it out, I once got a skirt there still with the $100 org price tag on it for $10!! and I love it!!!!
worst thrift store I've ever been to – I will NEVER go to plato's again and I warn anyone doing business with them. first of all the store is just a cluttered mess, way too much crap (and i mean that literally, they're selling brands such as no boundaries and xhilarition which you can get from walmart and target they charge just as much if you just went and bought a brand new shirt from there), most of their shirts are faded, the seam is coming undone and grotesquely overpriced (a used worn hollister shirt for 12 bucks! uh yeah no)... they had a pair of dirty puma shoes for 20 bucks, hideous high heels that look like their right out of the 80s and cheap jewelry that looked like it was from claires and yet cost just as much (USED jewelry by the way).
oh yes and for my selling experience, i seriously wanted to get some cash because i just moved here and i heard about this "great" store that takes your gently used brand names. now i happen to have alot of brand name things, i brought into platos a juicy couture necklace (originally $90, worn once!!), an ed hardy hat (bought less than a year ago $90), an h&m fur coat ($200 retail), betsey johnson handbag ($100) and a couple shirts from maurices, couple pairs of jeans, etc... I waited half and hour for them to search through my clothes and i assumed i was going to get at least 40 bucks for all that stuff after being told they offer a certain percentage of what you originally bought it for. finally i came up to the front ( with a bunch of their less than average brand clothes) and the clerk told me she was going to offer me $12! she said the coat was "out of date" the computer told her this by the way... i got 3.50 for the juicy couture necklace, 4.00 for ed hardy hat, and they wanted to offer me 5.00 for my betsey johnson purse. i didnt accept and gave them their used no boundries shirts that added up to double of what they were willing to offer me for my brand name items. BUYERS AND SELLERS BEWARE!! i don't see a long lasting future for this travesty of a store.
Poor Customer Service – I am writing to let you know about my horrible experience in Plato's Closet, Colorado Springs on North Academy. I made a special trip to bring in desired clothing and was very put off after receiving less than acceptable service.
I have been a frequent customer of this Plato's Closet, and have never really enjoyed my experience but tolerated it to clean out my closets and get a little cash. This particular visit however, left me with an arm full of clothes, frustration, and time wasted. September 17th at 1005am, I came in with a small amount of items, including men's fall and winter, women's sweaters, and a formal prom dress worn only once. Upon arrival at 10:05 a.m. I was greeted with the regular, "have you sold here before?". I was asked if a 25 minute wait was acceptable, and it was since I did not have an appointment until 11am. Forty minutes later (both girls were working on one very large drop off) I let the sales girls know that it had been past 25 minutes and could wait no longer. She replied she was sorry, but they just get busy. I said I understood, but that I had been quoted a 25 minute wait time. She was not concerned that the time was misquoted and that I would be leaving without giving Plato's Closet my business.
I left with my very nice clothes and no compensation for my loyalty as a preferred customer. I also had my mail out for an extra $10 in cash for bringing in more clothing. To say the least, I left without that as well.
After this experience I will never return to Plato's closet. The cash for coffee or a dinner out, simply is not worth it for the frustration that inevitably ensues. I will simply donate my clothing and take the write-off and peace of mind that I don't have to deal with being mistreated and stressed out.
Customer service goes a long way, not to mention common sense. There should be a cap on the amount of clothing someone can bring in at once. The sales associates were digging through several suitcases' worth of clothing. With that large amount of clothing, there should be an understood longer wait for them than for someone who brings a smaller amount. I think this is reasonable. Judging by the looks of it, I do not believe I was the only dissatisfied customer in the store today or before.
I hope this is helpful for keeping other customers in the future.... and I am assuring you I am no longer a customer of this establishment. Some corporate retraining, auditing, or a secret shop of this franchisee may be in order to make sure this location is up to standard.
