Avoid the owners, retain your happiness!! – I have purchased many items from Hobby Frown over the years since they are conveniently located from my business. My experience with the customer service most notably through the owners has been quite irritating, most often I have left their store amused wondering why a business owner(s) would possess such arrogance and disregard for the customer that supports them. I went in today with the intention of purchasing a product which was priced at several hundred dollars, after experiencing an arrogant ( I know everything but you nothing) attitude from the owner I left never to return again. Get a clue business owner, customer service is KING, not your EGO.
A service, and parts availiblity – i moved to town about 2 years ago, and when i looked for the local hobby shop i found hobbtown usa.
The staff is great! I go there atleast once a week, not a big spender but they treat me with respect, and more than willing to answer the dumbest questions i have.
i think the ratings of the store is haggled, from the past. people wanting to "upgrade" after breaking or even using the r/c truck...no store in the world would do this.
the comment with his grandfather having althimers-really... he should be leaving the comment not the grandson....and what did he tell the owner....maybe he forgot...?...
i don't work for them but i have worked at two hobby shops and seen people that pushy, acting to know more that me with his first r/c car..ect..
HOBBY TOWN - SAN MARCOS - OFF NORDHAL – Hi there fellow reviewers, here is my personal experience with HOBBY TOWN in San Marcos CA.
At first when i came in, i thought "wow, they got alot of really nice stuff in here!" Then i talk to the employees. "WOW, these guys are the biggest and most bitter jerks i've spoken to." They act like if you arent "good enough" and just throw out information rather than to actually help you. They fed my girlfriend wrong information thus leading her to purchase me an RC helicopter. over $50 bucks! Then they tell her that i have 10 days to return it if I dont want it. Well i did want it and it broke, i asked to upgrade to a model more durable and they guy pretty much laughed at me with a giggle and said i have to contact the manufacturer for the problem of a dead battery. I wound up purchasing a new one from Hobby Town anyway cuz i had no choice, but i'd never give them business again..... I left upset and felt they have taken my lady's money and just laughed about it....Hobby Town San Marcos? Please Go out of business or change your employees. They aren't ready to work with people...
Great Experience – I was looking for a good entry level RC helicopter (micro or mini) and saw the poor reviews posted here. I looked online and found Hobbytown offered the best price and was local so I could pick it up. My experience was great. The owner showed me various models, demonstrated them all, and helped me choose the best one (Blade MSR). I was told about common parts and he set up my heli out of the box and tested and trimmed it for me. When a strut broke later, another staff member gave me a new one at no charge and replaced my heli after noticing a manufactured defect. I left the store with a smile, some spare parts and a few good tips. I will return to Hobbytown San Marcos for future purchases.
WORST SERVICE EVER! – The service of this shop is horrible! My grandfather who has althimers went in to get some help with a helicopter he just bought, instead of showing him the problem the owner (Bill) proceded to fix it with out his knowlege then fly the helicopter around the shop as if he was trying to show off for some other customers with my grandfathers helicopter. the whole incident really angerd my grandfather so he just asked for his money back and was prompted to pay 30.00 for restocking fees and for the repairs made without his knowelege so when my brother and i went down to assist our grandfather they kicked us out as soon as we came in and locked the shop doors until we left the parking lot.
Horrible Customer Service – Let me start by saying I had been a customer of this business for years. I purchased a RC Car for my son over Christmas. In a nutshell when I went to return the item two hours later, I was told they would not take it back. The owners wife rolled her eyes at me, was extremely rude, and made it seem as though this was a personal assault against her, not a business transaction. After several conversations I was finally able to return the item for a $30.00 "re-stocking fee". Both the owner and his girlfriend were extremely rude, impatient, and unprofessional. I called there corporate and never received a phone call back. I am a small business owner as well. If I conducted my business like this I would have no customers. I will never return to this business again.
Only if you are desparate – Prices same or higher than other LHS. Old fashioned salesmanship not to be mistaken for product knowledge.
I was greeted by Bill (owner) who mentioned his friend (Hitech Sales) had just provided him RTF Minimag before going through distributors, etc. (savings, availability, etrc.). He recommended the Minimag over other planes.
Assembly was easy, even though the documentation was poor and the video had mistakes, Unfortunately, the first flight ended up being the last. Within 15-20 feet the cockpit was on fire. Put out ECS fire & came home.
Next day went back to warn Bill that the rest of his kits could also be faulty & get store credit. Bill wasn't there & wanted to personally inspect the plane when his employee called him. I was sure the nice gentleman would call to thank me & apologize for the inconvenience.
Got the call in the afternoon. Basically I was accused of applying CA to the motor when installing prop. Why did it fly for a little while then? He eventually admitted it could be other problems. I have 3 helis and have used CA many many times. It didn't make sense. Finally Bill offered to talk to Hitech on Monday. Happy fathers day!
Tell me you don't warrant the products and I need to go directly to the manufacturer. Don't accuse me (the customer) without any merit. You are not just competing with other LHS. On-line retailers are now dominating the market. Your lack of knowledge & customer support will impact innocent LHS.
Recommend avoiding at least this store.
