Great Ribs and Steaks – This is the best value anywhere! A real welcoming, family place. I noticed another post on well-done steaks. The problem with the well-done is that they cook on high temp. grills, I believe. Not like the hmoe version and the power sears the meat to hold in juice but on a strip steak it will curl. Just order medium and they will be fine.
The ribs are out of this world, smoked and grilled to perfection. I treasure the sweet potatoes with some kind of icing that is terrific in taste. Cannot get these anywhere else.
Very satisfying Barbecue – This is a good place for Barbecue. The Ribs are not "fall off the bone" tender, but they are very close. There are 5 varieties of barbecue sauce to select from at each table (Regular, Tangy, Sweet, Hot, and Pepper/Vinegar). I love them all, but then I have always loved all kinds of barbecue sauces. I have yet to be dissatisfied with any of the barbecued meat items or the sides. The meat has so far been consistently tender and the sides have been tasty. The baked potatoes are small but then that has become the case with most restaurants as of lately.
On the other hand the menu does specifically state that they are not responsible for any steaks ordered well-done. I know there are people that think that ordering a steak well-done is sacrilege, but I am not a blood-thirsty vampire myself and that is how I like my steaks. So when the menu or waiter tells me that the restaurant is not responsible for the condition of the steak if it?s ordered well, it tells me that either they are unable to control the level of flame over which the steak is cooked, or they simply do not know how to cook. I cook steaks all the time, well-done, and I never have a problem with charring, burning, toughening or drying out my steak. You simply have to know how to cook.
Also when the waiter makes this ?not responsible? statement to my face when ordering a steak and I call them on it you would think it would just be a demure embarrassment for the restaurant to have to make such a statement, but instead to have it condescendingly implied that steaks inherently come out burned, tough, and dried out when cooked well-done, one would have to assume that in my 39 years that I have never had a well-done steak in any other condition, nor have I ever cooked a steak well-done in my life; quite cheeky of them if you ask me.
In Summary: I love the barbecue, but the whole attitude and issue with well-done steaks at this place causes this one to lose a whole star in my review.
