Unique, Quick and the compliments don't stop – I have been going to Anthony, for 6 years, and have recently started to have Shawn do my color and cuts as well. No one handles my massive mane of thick, wavy hair better than these two. I am a dark dirty blonde turned 'balayage' blonde and someone who loves to see a lot of change to her hair. Because of the amazing look this technique gives, and works so seamlessly with any style i choose (poker straight, wavy, massive curls, massive volume, etc) I will be a balayage customer for life. This technique is healthy, quick (i used to sit in salons for 3+ hours - at Anthony's, in and out, with a full blow dry in under 1.5) inexpensive and I receive oodles of compliments on my hair for weeks after having it done. I go once every 8 weeks and never leave disappointed. We Pittsburgher's should feel very lucky to have such a classically trained stylist in Pittsburgh who makes it a mission to fix all those "foiled blondes" out there.
Extremely Disappointed – After reading the reviews on here, I expected to leave the salon today feeling gorgeous. Unfortunately, I left the salon without having anything done and feeling hideous (as someone who models occasionally and gets hit on often enough, I don't have poor self esteem typically). I drove for over an hour, paid for parking and waited for 20 minutes since Anthony was running behind. When he finally consulted with me, he said there was nothing that he could do. That my hair is yellow-y and fake and his look is more natural. If he is such a genius, he should be able to make any hair type/color look amazing. Blonds are a challenge and obviously he was not able to handle me. Apparently my roots take bleach and I have all over cover and that is something he doesn't have. He should get off his high horse. This is Pittsburgh- land of horrendous fashion and bad hair (some magazine even voted Pittsburgh the worst). If he was playing with the big dogs, he'd be in NYC or wherever he was trained. I am easily $150+ client with my hair's length so I am sure some much more talented stylist will be glad to make me look & feel like the pretty girl I am.
Greatest Hair Stylist !!!!!!!!!! – I have been going to Anthony for at least 10 years. He is the best. I love balayage ( a French way of highlighting hair by painting the highlights on, not using foils) I have very long straight hair If I had my hair done in another salon it would take aleast 3 to 4 hours I am in and out within 1 and a half hours. My children always comment me when I return home that I look soooo much younger than 51. Oh did I mention I live in Cleveland and I travel two and a half hours to have my hair done. I would travel the earth to have Anthony do my hair. He is a master at Balayage!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Anthony . I am never disappointed when I arrive at Anthony's. His salon does not smell of hair products, you do not have to wait in line, and he has a state of the art salon. Just yesterday I went to Anthony's and had a enjoyable experince of watching the New York Fashion show on I-Pads right in front of me on the wall. Yes ,
I'm on Walnut Street shoppingt after leaving Anthony's. Thank you Anthony for such a relaxed atmosphere of having my hair done. You Rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice experience – I went into this salon not knowing what to expect. I had never heard of balayage (a French way of highlighting hair by painting the highlights on, not using foils) but my friend insisted so I gave it a try.
Anthony painted highlights in my hair, and then two more clients came in, one with four boys who were very well behaved. Shawn cut their hair and I have to say they looked great when she was finished. She was very good with them.
My hair came out beautifully. The results were very natural looking. He did not put highlights in the back below the ears, which I thought he would do, but he said that he wants his results to look like the sun had lightened my hair at the beach. It does, and I love it. I am going back for sure.
Bravo Anthony! – Can we just say...."Bravo"!!
I was referred by a friend of a friend and she said...."don't let anyone else put color in your hair"! I live about an hr and 1/2 away and I was completely impressed!
I will be returning and am going to bring my sister for a "treat" experience.
The shop is simple and to the point. Anthony and Shawn are polite and accommodating. Balayage is an awesome experience and is so natural appearing when compared to foil treatments. Shadyside is lucky to have a European trained expert for creating sexy locks!!!
Do yourself a favor...go see Anthony and Shawn!
average and self promoting – I went to Izzy this week and had a cut, balayage and blow dry. 2 hours in and out, same as anywhere. Both were average. Cut was accurate but nothing special. Color ok, but messy & ruined the back collar of my white blouse (but my fault, I guess I shouldn't have worn it). He fawns over the older ladies and they seem to love him. Anthony spent a fair amount of time talking to another client at the same time and mentioning how he can make so much more money by working on multiple clients at the same time - I thought that was tacky for him to be talking about his moneymaking tactics, although he and his assistant were kind. Not particularly impressed. Didn't see the Ipads that the previous reviewer mentioned (anyone else think the two previous reviews are by the same person?). Ive been to many higher-end salons in the city as well and will keep looking. Not as good as my old salon in Upper St. Clair. Wish my old stylist had never moved to Park City! Will keep looking.
Best Kept Secret In Shadyside!!! – I have been to several high-end salons throughout Pittsburgh and have had both good and horrible experiences. After finding Izzi Coiffure my search was over I love the salon and Anthony does a fantastic job… I have a very hectic schedule; Anthony and Shawn are quick to accommodate my schedule. I like the fact that the salon is small and provides an intimate experience you are in and out and do not spend hours of your day. The salon provides a high end experience at a terrific price… I have recommended Izzi Coiffure to several of my close friends and haven’t had a complaint yet!!!
Incredible color and value at Izzi's – Izzi Coiffure is one of the few salons in Pittsburgh to offer balayage (hair painting). Anthony has mastered this incredibly natural-looking and modern color technique. In addition, he provides balayage at a fraction of the price of what other salons charge.
Anthony has created a warm atmosphere in his newly renovated space. With iPads displaying the latest fashion trends and a great magazine selection, it's sleek yet intimate.
If you're looking for a 5 hour hair experience, this is not the salon for you. Anthony and Shawn are friendly yet very efficient. I'm typically in and out in under 2hours. But the brief time you're there is sure to be enjoyable. Because it's a cozy space, you often find yourself chatting away with other clients and catching up on the latest Pittsburgh has to offer.
Finally, Izzi's has great hours. It's the only salon I know of where you can get your hair done in the morning and still make it to the office for your 9 AM meeting. For those of you who aren't up at sunrise, they are starting new hours (6-10 PM) on Friday and Saturday evenings where you can get your hair styled and make-up done with friends before heading out for the night.
wanted to like it. – I really wanted to like this salon! It's close to my house and opens very early. Even recommended by a friend (although she wasn't happy with her hair that day). I had a cut, all-over color and blow dry. Unfortunately I ended up with a bad trifecta - bangs that were cut too short (isn't this the first thing they teach?), color that washed out and didn't match, and a style that I can't work with despite 2 weeks of trying. Anthony is an expert blow-dryer, and was able to compensate for the cut that day, (with the exception of the bangs), but I washed it 2 days later only to see that the color washed to gold and not brown, and I never could style it. In addition, despite a sidewalk sign offering a deal for new clients, I wasn't offered a new client discount (& paid $100). The owner, Anthony, and his asst were very friendly, but I think his style of working on several clients simultaneously leads to error and a lack of focus. It's too bad, really.
Skip Izzi's – French Coiffures Michael and Anthony offer a “unique” hair experience. I sucked up the $50 per cut price tag (tips not accepted) and left my hair to their sheers. First, they were running a half hour late (not so bad). Then my hair was hacked. I really mean hacked, there is nothing natural about such a shattered cut (especially after the first wash). Finally, Michael cut my hair while simultaneously working on two other clients; which left the wash, dry and everything else to the overworked staff. Overall, totally unimpressive. Go to Sean @ Lewis’ down the street instead. La fin!
