great food – Food is great but you need to ask for home fries although the brunch menu states you receive them. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Great romantic setting early, fun bar scene at night. – With it being my first night in the city, I was in search for a nice upscale dinner. A very friendly guy noticed us walk by & asked if we'd like to see a menu. We said, no, but maybe 1 drink before checking out the rest of Market Street. The place was pretty chill, candle lighting helped set a very romantic mood, great music was on, and there weren't a lot of people there, so it wasn't crowded. We felt pretty comfortable there, and asked to see a menu. The bartender was excellent, he engaged us in conversation the whole night.

I have to admit, I was pretty reluctant to dine there at first, just because I had my mind set on a nice seafood restaurant, and because it was the first place we went to. The menu is very unique, and it took me a long time to decide what to get. We got the Grilled Filet Steak (with lobster rice, garlic mashed potatoes & grilled asparagus), the Grilled Filet Pizza & onion rings. Everything was so good, all I kept thinking about was if we could somehow keep the leftovers in our hotel room with no refrigerator. I was not disappointed in anything, and I can't even choose the best part! The lobster rice was hands down the best rice I've ever gotten with an entree, and the grilled filet steak was so tender, it was superb. I've had some great meals before, but paid triple the price. This place was such a good choice for a nice relaxed dinner. After dinner we were invited back to the bar by the bartender, with 2 free drinks. Later in the evening a dj set up his turntables, and the place quickly filled with people. The friendly man who first invited us into the bar checked in from time to time, but it wasn't the annoying type of check in. He bought us a free round too, and I was very impressed at how much they genuinely wanted us to have a good time.

I generally only think of doing reviews if the place is bad, however, this is the first place I left thinking to myself, I HAVE to post a positive review on Gigi's! I really couldn't have asked for a better first impression of Philadelphia.

worst service I ever had – This is by far the worst restaurant i've ever had in Philadelphia, after dining and wining here for three and half years.

Don't we tip based on the quality of the service? Restaurants can't put tips on their bills, unless it's a party of five+, right????

This rule does not apply to Gigi: they put the tips on the bill when my mom and I went there this evening. Can you believe that???

I was offended! did they suppose that because my mom doesn't speak English, or because we are not whites, so we will not pay the tips? (the waitress is an African American girl)

BTW the service was really bad. the lady brought us two glasses of water, without any straw or lemon in it, while the rest of the tables got them. and we spent at least an hour just waiting for the food.

Very Enjoyable – Everything about my experience at Gigi's was wonderful. I was in town traveling, had a long day, and wanted someplace where I could sit at the bar, watch basketball, and eat good food and drink good local beer. Kathryn, the bartender, was very pleasant (and very cute). Unfortunately, there weren't any "local" beers on draft but that seemed to be the norm along market street (as I found out the next night). The steak pizza is the way to go. If I didn't live in Indiana, I'd go back every Tuesday.

Incredible Food & Service! – Went here for restaurant week but showed up too early for the restaurant week menu, our server convinced the chef to begun preparing it early just for us! Every single dish was mouth-watering and delicious. The service was unbeatable; Ethan, is nothing short of a 5-star waiter. The atmosphere was modern and cozy. Everything about this place was incredible. If you only get one thing, definitely get the cheesesteak empanada.

Nice place, so-so food – Went for restaurant week - 4 courses and seating availability looked like a solid bet. I started with the crab soup, wife went with the salad. Soup was sort of cold, but had good flavor, so I didnt mind. Wife enjoyed the salad. Next course was appetizer - I rolled with the cheesesteak empenada's, wife went with the beer battered shrimp. The shrimp were pretty good, but the empenada's were a poor decision - probably should have gone with the chicken skewers instead. We both got the coffee-rubbed ribeye as entrees. We were both thoroughly disappointed with it. If the restaurant is smart, they will take it off the menu - There are too many good restaurants out there right now that are executing on this dish, which is not unique to gigi, at about the same price. For an entree thats nearly $30, it was a lousy cut, and the steak was just poisoned by the coffee. The mashed potatoes were good, each of us only recieved one (1) onion ring with our steak. We ended up not finishing our steaks, and brought them home for the dog. For dessert we had the flour-less chocolate cake. This dense cake was rich and moist, but was smaller than a hockey puck. Thats ashame, because it was a home run. Gratuity was also included on our bill, which was fine because our waitress was awesome and extremely attentive. Overall, Im not sure that I would ever go back here for dinner. I am open to stopping in for drinks and appetizers, but dinner is not likely to happen again. Even for a Contemporary American restaurant, the menu tries too hard. If you do plan on going, it can be tough to score a spot on market street, so make sure you check Arch, which has parking on both sides and is free after 6:30 pm in most spots. Also, 3rd and 4th had parking spots available too, and had the new muni-meter system like NYC.

Stay away!!! – Probably one of the worse places I've ever been to. First, we ordered a pitcher of mojito, which tasted like watered down limeade and it was more ice than the pitcher can hold. Got about 3 cups out of that one pitcher and was definitely over priced. For $36 I could of got a case of beers. Second, we ordered several appetizers, which weren't too bad except for the jerrk chicken skewers. It was basically grilled chicken on a stick with honey mustard sauce. Nothing jerrk about it. The seafood paella wasn't too bad, but a little bland. Lastly, the menu stated that gratuity would be added with a party of 5 or more at 18%. After receiving our check with a party of 4, we noticed that gratuity was already added at 20%! Service was fine, but the food and drink problem did not deserve them a 20% tip and it was pretty much demanded when it was already in the check. We did not get to tip them according to food, drink, and service experience. Oh yeah, the waitress also added that it was new owners ... which probably explained why the whole place was empty. 2 people at the bar and we were the only ones eating. If they needed to make some money it shouldn't be by skimping on alcohol, describing foods that wasn't even what it was suppose to be, and adding a 20% tip to the check that didn't deserve a 20% tip. All in all the waitress was nice and the atmosphere was nice, but the food and the intentional prefix gratuity was horrible.

Best dinner experience I have EVER had in Philly! – We went to Gigi's for dinner to kick off my friend's bachelorette party and it was AMAZING! Our waitress was up beat and very attentive. She came out to meet us as we walked up and made us feel welcome right away. She reccommended the red sangria...which was the best I have ever had. They gave us complimentary deserts and a couple of complimentary pitchers of sangria. The service was fast and the food was terrific! We ordered several dishes off the tapas menu and they were all great. It was also very reasonably priced.

It was a wonderful start to the night and I would recommend it for any special occasions or just a night out!

Best Saturday Night Spot in Old City! – When I think of Old City on a typical weekend night, I'm immediately turned off by all the difficult parking, grid-lock traffic, over priced martinis served by snobby bartenders, half-naked drunk girls running around, and way too many dudes in tight, white tee shirts with gell in their hair. However, this past Saturday, while all those things were probably present, I didn't even notice. I spent my evening with a few work buddies at Gigi. When we first got there, we were greeted by 2 extremely friendly bartenders (Pete and Angela), who served us promptly with a smile. It was pretty quiet at the bar so we laughed it up with Angela for a while, had a few drinks and some amazing "bar food" (and I'm not talking about chicken fingers and onion rings.) It got really busy quickly, but we still managed to get amazing, fast, friendly service.... We stayed right up until 2, and had a really great time!
