I am shocked by the negative reviews – I have been a loyal customer of Decorating Mart since the early 90's, and I must say that I am shocked by the last 2 reviews. I feel I especially have to respond to Bailey0523 about her Groupon experience. I too bought a Groupon because I recognized it as an incredible deal ( $35.00 for $100.00 of merchandise!) I was able to find fabric to make draperies for my living room as well as reupholster my favorite old chair (which came out incredible!!) and all of the work was done at Decorating Mart, saving me $65.00. Their staff was EXTREMELY helpful, and the work was done quickly and beautifully. Bailey - it seems to me that your problem is more with either Groupon or basic arithmetic! Every Groupon I've ever purchased states clearly that the sales tax is not covered as the merchant has to pay the tax on the sale. As far as them not telling you to spend more that seems absolutely absurd!! I know that all of their merchandise is marked with a price tag, and if you have trouble adding to 100 I'm sure you carry a cell phone that you could either use for a calculator or call for help. You also stated that you were given the Groupon as a gift, so you basically got $80.00 for $4.00. I can't say that I blame the manager for seeming rude because you seem quite childish and naive!
Like I said earlier, I have shopped at Decorating Mart for many years, and I have completely decorated 2 homes finding almost everything I wanted there. They always have new and exciting fabric, accessories, and furniture every time I go in there. All my dealings with them have been wonderful and I will continue shopping there above all other fabric and accessory stores!
Rotten Management and Poor, Overpriced Selection – I also had a horrible experience with the owner of this store.. He was extremely rude.... clearly not someone who enjoys owning this store. Also, the accessories in the store looked like something I could have purchased at Good Will for about $5, but were extremely overpriced. The selection was the worst I have ever seen in any decorating store. The fabrics were nothing to rave about.... limited selection, especially the children's fabrics. My husband and I had purchased a $100 Groupon and tried twice to find anything in the store to purchase and were unable because the selection was so crummy. We finally contacted Groupon for a refund. I have never written a bad review for any store, but felt compelled to after this horrible experience. There is absolutely nothing redeemable about this store and the owner is absolutely horrible! I will never step foot in there again.
Beware.... – The fabric selection is ok...if you want something unique looking, you do have to look high and low. Most of these fabrics look like they are for older, rich women. Sorry, I'm a young woman that is trying to decorate my apartment..I'm not into the gaudy or stuffy look. The prices are good, though.
MANAGEMENT IS HORRIBLE!! I was given a groupon in the amount of $100 as a graduation gift. I went to purchase some fabric and pillows for my new apartment...I had previously purchased about $100 worth of stuff a week before. Then, I was given the Groupon. I went to the store, bought more fabric for and pillows. When I went to check out, I was told I owed $4.91. I was never told the total and didn't ask (I know, big mistake) but I assumed that that was the difference I owed, meaning my total balance was $104.91. My boyfriend and I were talking, in front of the sales associate, about how we wished we had more money on the Groupon to buy items in the store. When I got home, I realized my total balance was $81!!!! After looking at the "small print" of the Groupon, I saw that I did have to pay sales tax...and that's fine! But that's where the $4.91 came from, not from the difference. I was under the impression that I had spent over $100, the total amount of the Groupon. The sales associate HEARD me talking about how I wished I hadn't gone over the amount but very sneakily didn't say anything.
I called back today, two days later, and the manager was a complete JERK to me! He acted like it was my fault, asked me "what do you want me to do about it" several times and laughed at me. Really....really? Way to run a business. Don't expect me to come back to your store ever again. I realize that I couldn't get change back, but if the sales associate would have told me I could look around for something around the $20 price range, I would have given this place a much better rating. Also, if the manager would have AT LEAST apologized, instead of patronize, I would have felt better about it. But that did not happen. I was talked down to, patronized and looked at like I was the one at fault.
Oh, the manager also told me that people constantly use the Groupon and go over or under the amount without saying anything. That is SHADY! I bet that all of those people who went under did not freely decide to use less than the amount they bought. I'm sure the SHADY and DECEITFUL staff did not inform them that they had not met the $100 mark.
BEWARE when using Groupon with this company.
Great selection – Earlier this spring we had our floors and carpet replaced with cermanic tile for the kitchen and bathrooms and hardwood for the living room, our installer did all the measurments and told what we needed, your sales people did a great job getting us the proper amount of materials to get the job done,and the color schemes that matched perfectly, it looks great, thanks for your help.
