Decent pizza -- Way overpriced – Pros: Consistant quality pizza. Good, but not great. Acceptable service.
Cons: Very Expensive!! $25 for a pizza?? For those prices they should at least provide delivery.
Best Pizza in Atlanta and Chicago – After living in Scottsdale, AZ, Chicago, IL, and South Florida I am here to tell that Mellow Mushroom has the best pizza ! The crust is perfectly crunchy and tasty. They have a wide variety of toppings and the best dipping sauce ever-Esparanza. Yummy!
Pizza's Great But Service Not So Much – The Hippie, tie-dying culture might make for a great business concept, but it does not make for a great waiter staff.
First, let me say that the food is quite good; everything is made to order and the ingredients are fresh. You expect made-to-order meals to take a little longer than most pizza chains. But the staff is notoriously slow and goes missing for large blocks of time. It is simply unbearable; so much so that I refuse to eat there.
Tasty pies come with a side of '70s nostalgia at these spruced-up college town pizzerias. – In Short
With satellite locations in big-time university towns like Chapel Hill and Athens, this popular Atlanta chain knows what makes a college pizzeria. Newer strip mall locations aside, staple fixtures include good music, servers in Jane's Addiction T-shirts, psychedelic painted cinder blocks and bumper sticker-covered beer coolers. A product of the '70s, this reliable pizzeria prjects an unflappable Deadhead psychedelics-n'-health-food ethos. This amounts to lots of "shroom" references, "spring water dough" (enriched with vitamin E), plus tofu as a pizza topping and sprouts on all the hoagies. Pies are high quality and the crust--dense but crisp--is distinctive. Specialties, including the Gourmet White pie (sun-dried tomatoes, onions, feta and provolone cheeses) and the Mighty Meaty (hamburger, bacon, pepperoni, ham and sausage) are top-notch. Salads and sandwiches are college-food good, making a nice variation if you dine here often.
Update 1/29/07-Too Commerical! Rather Bland!-$100.00 Min. Delivery! – We live just a two minute walk away from Mellow Mushroom, on 26th, and this place should be a no brainer. But we are pizza snobs. It's a very bright, well lit building, with easy parking. But honestly, we can buy the same quality pizza at the grocery store. Atlanta has many hole-in-the wall pizza joints, that are just terrific. Nothing special about the crust, although it's made with spring-water(?), we don't see what that has to do with making the crust special. And the crust is not special. If you have serveral kids in tow, want a bright clean environment, Mellow Mushroom might be to your liking. But just give us the greasy, cheese laden slices, put together by some of NY's finest, who now make our city home.Update01/29/07-We called MMP last night for delivery, we live two blocks away, and the guy who answered the phone, told us it's a $100.00 min. for delivery! Not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you have not tried the turkey sub.............. – You are missing something special. Not necessarily low in fat because of the cheese, but close to heaven when you need something comforting.
