Try not to end up homeless – They will put you in a room with 20 people that don't shower and the smell is bad. There's roaches. Then they want you to grab all of your possessions early in the morning and leave, unless you sign under one of their programs. The people in the PDP program can't use the phone and are locked down, are staff bullies you to be put back out on the street, and a lot of good people have been kicked out. In the Job Attainment program, a staff member that has been there for 20 years has been terminated due to embezzlement. It's run down and I don't know where this alleged "16 million a year income" is going?
Great Hotel BUT..... – It's a great hotel but if any of you are looking to save some $$ then book it at referer.us/8/GoodHotelDeals They usually have some pretty good deals on there!
Needs improvement with communication options – I am not saying this is not a place where a person can't get help, but I have a dear friend that is now in this shelter and he isn't allowed to use or charge his mobile device which I make sure is on so that he has communication.Daily communication has become difficult for no valid reason. He was also informed he is only allowed 1 call a day. What happens to him having contact with friends and family off of 1 call!! I am hoping to be in my own place Lord's will Jan.2010 or sooner so that my friend won't have to be in his current situation.I don't understand why this facility has to have control over who an individual communicates with. I don't want to believe that a person charging a mobile devices would be the issue either.
OK, I guess, if you're hungry and homeless – This is from the Atlanta Union Mission's Web site:
Atlanta Union Mission's men's emergency shelter, located in downtown Atlanta, provides hot meals, shower facilities, clean clothes and beds for up to 218 men daily. The Shepherd's Inn also houses up to 98 men for the first phase of the residential addiction recovery program, which lasts four to six weeks.
I didn't find anything about it on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution site, so I guess it's safe enough.
