Melon Patch Better Now – Actually, they have a different cook now and the food is very good country cooking. Their fried catfish is some of the best I have had and the serving size is plentiful--two large fillets and that was all I could eat. I also like their meat loaf, and that is also a large portion. Their fried chicken is also great--I get a large chicken breast when I order that. They are happy to change any item if you are unhappy with it for any reason. We go several times a month. It is also popular with the senior citizens. I have never paid more than $8 or $9 for a meal (less if I get water instead of tea) unless I order "all you can eat." That usually runs about $12.95.

GREAT PLACE FOR ALMOST EVERYTHING-ESPECIALLY FRIED CHICKEN – THIS IT THE BEST PLACE TO GET "HOME COOKED" EALS IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO COOK OR JUST WANT SOMEONE ELSE TO GIVE YOU A BREAK & COOK FOR YOU! I'm disabled & have ordered from EVERYWHERE in town that has carry out or delivery. My home nurse goes to pick it up. One day she was out & I called to see if they delivered. They said no but did anyway! They knew of my situation & the OWNER DELIVERED IT HIMSELF DESPITE THEIR USUAL POLICY! This is my favorite place to order from for homestyle southern cooking even if it was convenient to go to Chattanooga! I generally get fried chicken & unlike most place who cut their breasts small w/o rib meat, they have HUGE FRIED CHICKEN BREASTS ...THE BEST I'VE HAD- REAL JUUICY BUT NOT GREASY AT ALL & ANY SIDES I'VE ORDERED HAVE ALSO BEEN GREAT & STILL HOT WHEN I GET IT. I CALL MY ORDER IN & THEY COOK IT FRESH. THEY DON'T COOK A LOT AT ONCE & KEEP IT UNDER A WARMER ALL DAY WHICH, DRIES IT OUT, LIKE ALMOST EVERY OTHER PLACE DOES.It's cheaper to order a dinner which comes w/a meat, 2 sides & either 2 delicious rolls or cornbread. I generally get an extra chicken breast & a dessert which I usually make 2 meals from-there's plenty to do so. When you order everything seperately, the cups are restrictive (they can only fit so much in them so the lids will fit). With the meal-coms in divided styrofoam containers & they really pile it FULL. PLUS IT'IS CHEAPER TO ORDER THAT WAY!).

THEY ALSO HAVE STUFF TO CHOOSE FROM FOR DIABETICS OR PEOPLE NOT WANTING A LOT OF CARBS/SUGAR -- THEY HAVE GREAT SUGAR FREE DESSERTS! (NOT EVRY DAY I'VE ORDERED, BUT MOST -- I THINK THEY MUST RUN OUT FAST & MUST BE IN HIGH DEMAND.

W/GREAT FOOD (ALTHOUGH NOT AS CHEAP AS FAST FOOD CHAIN STORES, IT'S A WORLD APART IN THE QUALITY & QUANTITY & BETTER THAN IF YOU COOKED IT AT HOME ... OR ARE UNABLE TO COOK, LIKE ME.) WITH ALL THAT & THEIR EXCELLENT SERVICE I HIGHLY RECCOMEND IT TO ANYONE WANTING A GOOD "HOME COOKED" MEAL W/OUT THE HASSLE OF COOKING. I ALSO LOVE THAT THEY HAVE GREAT, HUGE SKICES OF WATERMELON WHEN IN SEASON & WHATEVER FRESH FRUITS IN SEASON TOO.

P.S. I SAW THE 2 BAD REVIEWS & IT SEEMS THEY WERE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE PRICE & AMOUNT. THEY SAID THEY ORDERED THE ITEMS SEPERATELY, WHICH AS I EXPLAINED EARLIER, IS NOT THE BEST WAY TO DO IT. I THINK THEY SHOULD GIVE IT ANOTHER CHANCE & ORDER IT AS A MEAL - PLUS YOU CAN ASK THEM TO COOK WHATEVER THE MEAT IS THEN IF THEY HAPPEN TO HAVE SOMETHING ALREADY COOKED THAT YOU'RE UNAPPY WITH (RARELY HAPPENS) & IF YOU'RE EATING IN OR EVEN GETTING IT TO GO, YOU CAN CALL YOUR ORDER IN IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WANT. IT JUST TAKES THEM ABOUT 5 MINUTES TO COOK IT RIGHT THEN ANYWAY SO DON'T CALL IT IN TOO SOON OR TELL THEM WHEN YOU WILL BE THERE.

YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU ATE THERE, NO MATTER WHAT YOU TRY. OVER THE YEARS, I'VE TRIED MANY ITEMS AND HAVE NEVER BEEN DISSATISFIED!

Disappointment – I have eaten at this local resturant several times this year, the food is always cold or luke warm, they serve almost everything in little serving bowls, so tacky, I would say taking the portion thing to the extreme!

My heart was set n having a good thanksgiving dinner, I'm single male in my 50's, I ordered turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, corn, rolls and sliced baked ham. ok I got ham that was mostly fat, with it being smothered in cubes of pineapple, yuk! my turkey, I was hoping for several slices of carved turkey, heck no, I got a very small side dish bowl of very bland cornbread stuffing, topped with bland chicken gravy and several pieces of turkey breast shredded! my mash taties was instant with not turkey gravy but beef gravy? the warmest part of my dinner was the rolls and they are probably stored in a food warmer prior to serving. For desert I asked for a slice of chocolate merringe pie, very small slice I got. diet coke. my total bill was 17.98 plus 3.00 tip.

Needless to say I left hungry, very disappoointed, you would get better food in the hospital, and thats terrible to say.

Hopefully they read these comments at the Melon Patch, cause they need a new cook who can cook, southern country food, and have it served hot and fresh! and if the cook can serve food in little bowls they surely can do the same by putting the food on a warm plate.

Worst Food and Service I've ever received in my life – I took my mother out for what was suppose to be a nice quiet mother-daughter dinner tonight 12-19-2008 to the Melon Patch because she wanted to try their all you can eat fish. We get seated, actually we're told to seat ourselves, so we did, the waitress comes out and brings us the menus, and we place our drink order, she brings the drinks, and we wait 10 minutes on our meals to arrive. I ordered the All you can eat Fried Catfish dinner with a loaded baked potato, and she ordered the all you can eat Fried Alaskan with white beans and fries. Food arrives, my fish is greasy, really really greasy the potato has nothing on it but cheese and butter (since when is this a loaded potato?) I get the attention of the waitress and ask her to take the fish back because its too greasy, she takes the plate and out comes the manager with a horrible smart mouthed attitude, not only does he talk to me like I'm 3 he talks to my mother in the most disrespectful manner I've EVER seen. I'm disgusted with this place and their service, the food was horrible, we didn't even eat it, we paid our bill and left and the service was the worst I've ever encountered in my entire life.

Don't waste your time or your money on this place, unless you want to be treated like trash and charged an arm and a leg.
