GREAT NEW PLACE!!! – let me tell you... i have been reading reviews for this place, so i was a bit iffy to go in, but a friend of mine said they went through some changes the last time i came in (which was like a year ago) oh man did they change !! but for the better !! they have a great happy hour lounge menu where you can enjoy it both in the dinning and lounge area. (love the couches in the lounge) its just a place to chill and the cocktail server or server chic was awesome, filled us in with the questions we had and about the new menu.. my experience was awesome !!

i will definitely go in again for their late night happy hour... plus they have karaoke night on fridays.... haha so fun... i would definitely recommend this place, happy hour prices are great, service is great, food is awesome ! oh and the staff are just beautiful!!

thanks yama !!

Very Disapponting – Being Valentine's Day, I wanted to find someplace nice to take my wife. I chose Yama because the menu on their web site looked appetizing.

We showed up on time for our reservation and were shown to a table, but it took 20 minutes before a waiter stopped by. He was more interested in a discussion that he was having with someone else at another table, and eventually wandered off without excusing himself or taking any drink orders. After another 10 minutes or so a manager dropped by to say that someone would be with us shortly. After another 15 minutes a new waiter came by and announced that he would be our server. So in total it took 45 minutes before we could order drinks.

But the story doesn?t get any better - we ordered our food, but we did not receive it for over an hour. I understand that Valentine?s Day can be busy, but couples were arriving, eating, and leaving in less time than it took us to get our drinks - and we both had iced tea, not specialty drinks. We received our salads and appetizers after having been at the restaurant for over two hours, and after we received our entrees we didn?t see our waiter for another 30 minutes or so. (No drink refills, no checks to see how the dinner was going, nothing.) Our waiter wandered by some time later when it was time to pay, and I should have bypassed leaving any tip - but simple politeness prevented me from doing so.

All told, my wife and I left Yama three hours after arriving. Valentine?s Day may by a busy time, but this was ridiculous. The food may have been good, but the service was so terrible that I have wasted no time in recommending to others that they never eat at Yama.

Disappointed. – I came here for happy hour about a year and a half ago and everything was great - service, food, prices. I came back here last week and was very disappointed in how much they had changed. We checked the website before we went for the menu and hours for happy hour. When we got there, we found out the restaurant doesn't even open until 5PM (so their happy hour doesn't start at 4pm as stated on the website), and they were out of most of the happy hour items we wanted. AND the happy hour menu was missing a couple items from the online version.

We ordered some sushi and nigiri and I thought the taste was below par. The nigiri had spices on it (!!), which I have never seen before on any nigiri that I've ever had. It had a unique flavor, but it wasn't one that wowed me in any way. The spicy tuna roll (my favorite roll) was very underwhelming as well.

On the bright side, the atmosphere and decor was very nice. Food needs improvement, and website needs to be updated.

Nice looking and quitequite – I've got a dinner there .The food was very tasty .The beer wow -ASAHI - was just perfect. We are beer's guys and we know and like the most european beer and the ASAHI was just the write beer - cold enough and cheep enough.

Another good feeling for us was the waitress-SHE DIDN'T AS US EVERY 2 MINITES A STUPID QUESTIONS -LIKE IN THE MOST RESTAURANTS IN THE AREA -are you OK .....Yes she gave to us enouph privacy !

Thanks YAMA 's guys we are coming back again!

not a nice sight – This was on 9/24 Wed. dinner time. We were sat near the Host stand. Over all view of the restaurant was nice. Service could be better. Usually a high end restaurant like this would have a GM around to make sure everything was alright, but since the place was not so busy, may be they don't have a GM at the time. The hot food was OK but overly priced. Nigiri Sushi is not as good as what I thought it would be the fish on top of rice tasted warm. We like Ginza or Sushiya down the street. And before I left, I think I saw insect corpse near the corner going into the kitchen. We give up desserts after what we saw.

Great lunch spot – Although I have dined at Yama for dinners, I was never impressed with the food, but the lunch was a bit different experience. The server was a professional and had the firsthand knowledge about the food, which is always good to know. I had the lunch bento with Sashimi and sushi, which was an excellent value for the lunch, overly fulfilled my hunger. The three sectional plate came with tempuras that were lightly battered accompanied by the baby green salad lightly garnished with Japonaise dressing were delightful combination. The miso and the ginger mixture in the dressing complimented the tempuras well. My sashimi was fresh and sushi rice was sweetened to its perfection. I was fully satisfied, but I have decided to take an offer from the server regarding a cheesecake with pear. This was one of the best desserts I had in awhile. Although cheesecake sounded bit heavy after the meal, it was nice surprise that it wasn?t heavy rather fluffy feelings to it, and topped with the burnt pear (which reminded me of creme bulee) perefect the lunch. Great spot for a lunch!

Yama at the Galleria – This place should be avoided. A group of my friends went there after a movie. There were 9 of us in the group. We asked if we could have one of the large booths since we thought we might be a little loud and we would be speaking in our native language. We asked for a booth so we wouldn?t disturb others. We were told no by or server. Next when we were seated thye server got upset since we didn?t want to order what he wanted us to. He wanted us to order some large sushi platter, but we told him we wanted to order separately. He became rude and things went downhill from there. We should have just left, but we stayed and ordered drinks. The drinks came and were so watered down it was pathetic. We mentioned this to our server. We asked our server if he could ask the bartender to make stronger drinks. He said no. Our food came. It was lousy, Sushi fell apart on your plate. Ingredients seemed to be a week old and smelled fishy. Those who ordered items other than sushi felt that they had much better at local teriyaki joints. The server was so rude. At the end the bill arrived. It was all together as one bill, not individually as we had asked. No where was it indicated that we could not order separately. We asked if he could separate the bill and he said no. To add to the insult they tacked on 18% gratuity (nearly $70 more to a $360 tab) to the bill and he threatened to call the police if we didn?t pay up and leave immediately. We told him we wanted to know who the owner was he said it was his father and he would tell us the same thing. Don?t even think of going here.

Was better. – We used to come here quite often, but after menu changed we don't. Menu now is very limited and many good items are gone. Overall it's a good and beautiful place.

Great Sushi – I have eaten here a few times and have gotten their sushi rolls both times. They were amazing- beautifully done and they tasted great (and were well priced). As an avid sushi fan, theirs is some of the best I've had, especially in Bellevue. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and is really nice. I would also recommend trying their specialty teas- a great way to satisfy a craving for something sweet. The only possible critques: he service is a little slow, but everyone was really nice and it is a nicer place... I like that I didn't feel rushed, but don't come here looking for a speedy meal. And the entrees (besides the sushi) are a little pricey at $20-$30.
