Mario Batali's dad Armando curates this incredible salumeria, which is more than a match, meat-wise for anything created by his famous son. By all means, eat a sandwich while you're there, but make sure to take a lot home to eat slice by slice.

Get here now. Armando Batali (father of Mario) offers up quality charcuterie and sandwiches to eat in or takeaway. Ask about their private luncheons.

Sure, there are lines. So what? No matter what you order when you get inside, it's going to be worth the wait. All-time faves include the meatball sandwich, the daily pasta, the incredibly satisfying soups and the hot meat plate with a little bit of everything. Help yourself to a glass of wine on the table and pay for it on the way out. During the holiday season, do not miss the rum cake!
Great People Great Food. Thought the location was super cute and unique. Everything has always been yummy although I have never been to NY so have no comparison. the staff has always been friendly and helpful. Maybe if you don't arrive with an attitude you don't get one from the staff.
Wish there were more. This place has great salami. Their specials are dang good too0. especially the soups. ChumBotta? When i asked, they said it was kitchen sink soup, everything in it including salami! With a hunka bread, that was a meal itself.
Just hype, place is a dump. Long lines ouside for garbage sandwhices. stale bread,Thin slices, poor food handling, dirty counters.Must be living off the Batati name.I would never go back here .
I also don't get it!. This placed would be laughed off the block in Philadelphia, a place for true, delectable Italian sandwiches. I must agree that the counter people are disturbingly slow and preoccupied with their own issues. The line was out the door, (still not sure why) and she is talking to her coworker about what they did last night, slowly arranging salami, one by one, on the bread. Appalling!! The sandwich is ok, but I'll take a south Philly hoagie in a heartbeat. Overall very disappointing, and not worth the hype, or wait. Come ON!
fabu salumi, so so sandwich. I finally made it to Salume yesterday and I don't get it. First the good points: no doubt about it, their salume are excellent. I got the 'winter' salumi, with green, white, and pink peppercorns. The other half dozen choices sounded very good too. The bread for the sandwich was excellent, too; I got the olive oil bread. The other choice was a ciabatta. Now, when they put the salumi on the bread, it's less than fair. I have two complaints: There is an 8:1 ratio of bread to salumi, and they don't remove the rind. I was constantly pulling these plastic like shreds out of my mouth and I think I swallowed several before I realized what was going on. The salume are sliced so thin you hardly get any taste, but you do get the aroma so your brain it tricked into thinking you are eating a hearty sandwich. (very clever that madman) Next time, I'll simply buy some salume and good bread and make my own sandwiches. They do ship so that will save me the wait in line. One other complaint: I didn't like one of the counter girls; she was making a quartet of sandwiches for the person in line in front of me and you'd think she was preparing the bread for communion -- much too preoccupied with herself and taking too long; I mean it's only a sandwich.
Bad customer service. Went with a few friends today at lunchtime. Got there at noon, and we weren't surprised at the long line. But when we finally got in the doors, we could see why the line took over one hour. Absolute and total disregard for the customers waiting on a work day! The staff very calmly and SLOWLY made sandwiches, pausing to talk to anyone for any length of time about just about anything. I have every sympathy when servers are overworked and busy, but these three women barely worked! I felt it was total disregard for their customers, and disregard for the owner! Good meat, but really! I won't return.
Best salami in the country. This was my first trip to seattle, to visit friends. I had heard all about this place and read the reviews. Many are good and a few are not so good. I myself, loved it. Yes the line was long (I am told the busiest days are fridays and all days in July/August) so I arrived at 11. I waited about 20 minutes. I had no clue what to order because it was a bit confusing. I asked for help and ended up with free tastes of everything (not to mention the frequent samples that were passed to the folks waiting in line.) I decided on the mole and mozzarella, with the mini baguette, which i understand is new in the last year, for folks who want a softer bread. My friend had the muffo. We shared, and we loved both. The people working there were extremely busy, but incredibly friendly. The customers all seemed happy. I am going to return next week and give it another whirl, maybe i will try the meatballs, i hear they are a bargain, and huge.
Oxtail............OX NOT !!!!!!. I gave it one star out of respect to Mario.........My family went there after seeing it on No Reservations and because we are big fans of Mario, Anthony Bourdain, and cured meats. It was a Thursday around 11:00 am, waited in line for 30 minutes only to find out that they were out of the first 2 items we ordered. Since it was our first visit two of us settled on the meat and cheese plate thinking how could we go wrong. Well the meat was paper thin, dry and as tough as jerky, the bread was like shoe leather possibly because the server picked up a plate that was already made and sitting to the side, apparently for awhile. Two of our group ordered the oxtail sandwiches which were so greasy it was running down there hands and arms, again the bread was so hard that when you tried to take a bite all of the meat fell out. We were a group of four and could only find 2 seats so we asked the server if any other seats were available ( they DO have a back room seating area) but were told that we would just have to wait until someone left. The service was BAD, the employees RUDE, the food TERRIBLE. Armandino remarked on No Reservations that he never really intended for the place to be such a success and apparently his son's reputation is the only reason it is. I would not recommend it to anyone!
not so hot. Saw it on No Reservations and heard a lot of great things.I am a foodie and this place sucked, service was slow and rude, sandwich was made before they told us they had nothing to put on it, they had run out of condiments but didn't suggest another choice, even charged full price! bread was dry and everything was overpriced!!! The salami....well it was GREAT! but for the experience we had I would not reccomend or return! I think the who;e thing is a little overrated!
Must be nice to be so busy. We went there the other day with some out of town guests. After waiting in line for 35 minutes, we were told that they were "way too busy" to slice what we ordered. Since the product we ordered must be sliced prior to sale, we had to make other selections. Not getting our first choice was a disappointment, especially after the wait. This wasn't our first time there, but each time the service seems to get worse.
