Elizabethtown Animal Hospital – I don't have anything bad or favorable to say, one way or the other. All I want are answers. My kitty was 18 years old, I know she was old. She caught a "cold" like she does every year at this time, then she lost a little over a pound and started acting weak . I immediately took her to the doctor, who told me to leave her there for bloodwork, a work-up, and I could come ang get her around 1 or 2. Dr. Yates said he would call me. I had not been home over 30 mintes when the doctor called me and told me he had "bad news" for me. He said that my kitty had went into "cardiac arrest and was gone, that they had tried to revive her to no avail'" I was so upset that I had to call my husband home from work to go pick up her body so I could bury her. After I was calm enough to talk, I called the doctor back and was told that she probably had bone marrow cancer and had at most 2 to 4 more weeks left to live. Her bloodwork showed her CBC to be completely out of whack, indicating this.
What I want to know is this. Why was the left side of her neck shaved clean? The assistant told me because that was where they were drawing the blood from. I never heard of this. Did they draw the blood from her carotid artery? Exactly what was going on when she went into cardiac arrest? Was it when they were drawing blood from her, shaving her, what were they doing when she went into cardiac arrest? And what "measures" did they take to revive her? I need to know exactly what was going on when she went into this arrest. Did they find out the results of her bloodwork before the arrest, or did they do the bloodwork post-mortem?
I wish I had never left her alone. Maybe if they had let me stay, she would have felt more comforted and not been so scared. And maybe she would still be here.
