Wonderful results – I booked an appointment with Marina, who did the Thirst Quencher for my hair. I usually get scalp treatment at another spa and have been happy with it, but decided to try this one for the first time, and I was not disappointed. Marina examined my hair - they have a great system where you can see your scalp!! It was cool actually. She gave me a very good treatment - oiled my hair, massaged, and then steamed for 20-25 mins. My hair felt so good!! I bought the conditioner and serum (phytolisse), and took samples for a shampoo (phytoprogenium) and leave-in hydrating cream. I loved all of it except the conditioner - it dried my hair which was strange because it was for dry hair! I am going back to purchase the shampoo and cream. Every leave-in conditioner I have used makes my hair sticky and oily, but not this one. I have thick, wavy, frizzy hair that takes 30-45 mins to style and straighten. But after using Phyto products, I am done in 15 mins and don't even need to use a flat iron. My hair gets very silky and smooth with the serum. The shampoo is really good, smells good, and the smell remains for the day. I have had the best results with Phyto products!! I tried so many products for frizz, and this one wins!
Overall the treatment was very good and Marina was awesome. My only complaint is that the massage was short. I have had massage for a longer time period and much lower rate. The treatment is expensive but definitely worth it. I cannot recommend this place enough both for treatments and products. I will be going back, once the economy improves!
Curly , Frizzy , Relaxed Experience – My Girl friend and I went for a FREE ANALYSIS... LOVED It... Met w/MARINA... LOVED her. She told us what was best for each of us. We are both African-American & swear by weekly visits to the Dominican hairdresser, spending on high end products. We have different hair routines for the wrap & go style. I relax my mane every 6-8 wks, a slave to the chemical. I wear a ponytail or bun 3-4x wkly min. Marina explained how it weakens the hairline & you can lose that hair forever. My friend stopped relaxing her mane 5yrs ago & dropped buns & ponytails all together she just gets, color, wash, treatments, blowdried, & wrapped. She is Free & Truly RELAXED! Her hair hair under the microscope was GREAT & Smooth except for a few split ends & natural build up. Mine showed rugged structure due to relaxing. Marina thoroughly explained what we're doing right and what to due to counter balance any damage we have. I went in terrified, thinking I was going bald from shedding so badly, she explained it was natural (100 per day) but showed me 2 & 3 strands growing out of one folicle. Marina put our minds at ease handling us with superb care. It wasn't about the sale or telling us how BAD our hair was. She was genuinely concerned about healthly hair and how to improve upon our daily maintenance. We discussed the Phytospecific Relaxer which I bought despite her telling me I too can stop relaxing & the cost. I'm still enslaved because I don't have any one to help me with weekly care needed for unrelaxed hair. I highly recommend seeing a professional at Phyto or anywhere else that is objective and unbiased having your hair's health first . Ask questions and do a lot of research on all products you use, most have great 800 customer service lines. Our normal beauticians do what's best for their weekly process of assisting us w/our weekly routine which is why I still get a perm. One day with Phyto's help I too will be FREE & TRULY RELAXED... No more "Mami you need a touch-up!
RIPOFF – AVOID LADIES. TOOK MY MONEY AND THE SERVICE WAS NOT UNACCEPTABLE. I PAID FOR SOMETHING WHICH I DID NOT RECEIVE AND THE ATTITUDE WAS THE BASIC TOO BAD. I PAID FOR A HAIR RELAXER WHICH DID NOT WORK. IT TURNED INTO A VERY EXPENSIVE ($280) BLOWDRY.
All around EXCELLENT – I have been to Phyto a number of times for both facials and hair relaxing treatments and I must say the service is exceptional!!! The atmosphere is very calm, you step in the salon and you feel as if you are in a different world, the plants are just amazing! Everyone is very friendly, and I was amazed by the knowledge Marina (who did my hair) and Lilia (that did my facial) shared on the products used and their purpose. I was taken through the hair treatment step by step and I know you expect people who do your hair to know what they are doing, but this is something novel in my hair experience.
In addition the assistance I received in the product selection was wonderful; I was instructed to products that my type of hair with its condition needed. It went from damaged and very dull looking to shiny, light, healthy hair full of volume! I have to say I am very happy with the way my hair is looking these days :)!
Lastly what I found more appealing about the place is that treatment is their main focus, there is no cutting. Hair in any condition gets treated and is returned to a healthy state even if at first cutting may have looked like the only option.
I've finally found my place! – I absolutely cannot begin to tell you how happy I am in finding this place. I've just had my relaxer done and it's amazing. I have very fine hair so my hairstylist concocted a treatment along with my relaxer to my exact specifications. Everyones hair is different so this is why they offer you more than what the standard salon does. A hair spa in every sense... It's private, serene and the stylists are knowledgeable whereby they constantly inform you of their every move. Your hair gets treated like fine silk.
Because I have a relaxer done once every 4 months, this place has now become my haven of recuperation for my hair. Every single dollar is worth it!
The staff is extremely courteous and the premises itself are spectacular.
If you want a 5 star experience and if you truly care about your hair then you will go to no other place! I'm in love!
Ultimate Hair Spa for Relaxed Hair – I was having a really bad hair week and decided to do something radical about my hair. I have relaxed afro hair that isn't easy to manage and was tired of caking it with products that were weighing my hair down. I didn't realize Phyto actually had a salon, but came across Phyto Universe on their website. It was an impulse decision and I made an appt for two days later. I've spent money on facials, but I'd never heard of a hair spa before. That's exactly what this salon is, and your hair gets amazingly pampered for the price. I had the Vital Force treatment and my hair was blowdryed and flat ironed after. My stylist Marina did a great job and I was very impressed with her knowledge of the products and product recommendations for my hair. Phyto Universe is more of a hair spa then a salon. The technicians don't color or cut--they're specialists for the Phyto line.
Great products- Beautiful space! – I was walking to Bloomingdales the other day and saw Phytodefrisant in the window on 58th. Since I love that product, I headed in to see what this place was all about. Went up the 3rd floor (in a private elevator) and when I walked in I saw this amazing wall of plants! Not what I was expecting at all. To my surprise, they gave me a free hair analysis, which I've never had done before. The gentleman who helped me was so nice. I'm going to go back next week for a hair treatment- can't wait!
Phyto products are fabulous! – Phyto Universe is conveniently located near Bloomies so I had to try it! I have tried Phyto hair products before at my hair salon and it really is worth every penny. It makes my hair shiny but full of body. Phyto Universe is unique in that it is like a spa for your hair! The facials are suppose to be great so I will have to try one next time.
hello??? – What with all the fuss...
OK, the place looks great, but the attitude is oh sooooooooo french and the quality of it all is not: Expensive, bad service. Do not go there unless you have money, time and energy to waste. Too bad, considering the excellence of the products ( Lierac & Phyto ) is amazingbut you can get them on the net for like 1/10th of the price ( @ strawberry for instance). I wish they told me before I went there so decide for yourself...voila
Unbelievable! – As an avid Phyto user for many years I came across the review for Phyto Universe in New York Mag and just had to try it out! Upon arrival I was greeted by a gracious staff, and the most beautiful surroundings I have seen in a long time. They have this wall of plants that spans the entire back wall making it seem like i've escaped to a tropical island somewhere. Back to my hair, the Thirst Quencher for my dry hair was superb! It was multi-level deep conditioning with a wonderful scalp massage. My hair looked fabulous when they were done and since then it has been over 2 weeks and my hair is still silky soft. I highly recommend it!
