Plain, boring food – I agree with the below review regarding the restaurant decor. It was "inherited" from the previous "Charleston chops" and has not been changed much since then.

This place was special to me and my husband because that's where we had our dinner following by proposal.

6 years later we came here on August 21st to celebrate our anniversary. Frankly, we were disappointed.

We ordered the bottle of wine, the server did not present it to us and did not offer to taste, she just directly poured it into the glasses. She was talking to us as she was passing by our table.

The fettucine with chicken was so boring plain! Tasted like boiled chicken breast mixed with pasta and alfredo sauce. Honestly, it tasted like frozen dinner!

We definetely will not be back.

The best staff on Lake Norman – My wife and I were recently there for a birthday dinner on a friday night. When we first approached the establishment I was appeased to noticed an italian fashioned fountain and large wooden doors accompanied by a red carpet. I was only on vacation from Brooklyn and didnt expect to see anything this nice in the dirty south. When we walked through the beautiful doorway we were greeted firmly by two young ladies whom brought us to our destination. We sat at a round table on the second floor overlooking the entire restaurant. I noticed many chandliers and lovely cherrywood which is my favorite. We were greeted with smiles by our server and she instantly got our drink order and brought them to us quickly. The drinks were stiffer than a dead body (which is a good thing). The bread was good but I have tasted better. I could tell it wasnt fresh. We started with calamari, brushcetta, and musssels which I felt was the best part of the meal. My wife ordered the risotto which stood up to the server's descritpion. I ordered the NY strip which I thought was fairly tastey but I had a side of spaghetti with tomato sauce which I must say was the worst I have ever tasted. For dessert we were given a complementary tiramisu with a candle which was very good. We also ordered a massive chocolate cake which was heavenly. We then noticed there was live music at the bar so we proceeded over. We were greeted promptly by two Italian Long Islander's and a beautiful girl from Long Islander as well. They were amazing. Our drinks were perfect every time and they treated us like "family". They kept saying "join the family". I loved them. The Boardwalk Band was also fun and very inviting. At one point Mike and Anthony even saluted with us just as if we were family. I am bakc in Brooklyn now but if I come back to the Carolina's I know where to go. EXCELLENT SERVICE!!!

Half price pastas on Thursdays – My Son and I went here on a recommendation and found it very good. Service was very good, and I was pleased to find out that the Chef was the Owner.

I had the Fettuccini ala nonna and couldn't finish it all.

My Son had the Rotini Amatriciana and he said that was very good. We'll be back.

A BAD EXPERIENCE ALL AROUND!!! – My husband and l recently ate here and found the restaurant to be very nice inside and the wait staff was excellent. The FOOD was HORRIBLE! Small portions for the price and NO FLAVOR. l was expecting a rich tomato basil garlic sauce and I could not even tell l was in an italian restaurant. The sauce was the worst excuse for italian sauce l have ever tasted ..very bland..very little flavor and not much of it. l would expect an italian restaurant to have a handed down sauce from some ancestor that is awesome and considered the BEST by all. This tasted like it came out of an institution size can. We were shocked that it was so bad. My husbands meal was supposed to have a garlic lemon wine sauce and you could not even tell there was any sauce on it. No lemon flavor, no garlic flavor or visible and no wine flavor. Absolutely NO FLAVOR!! We were very disappointed and can not believe anyone would give this restaurant a good rating since ours was so bad. The bread was good though..they say it is made right there. If they are making the sauce there...they should find someone's old handed down tried and true recipe because theirs misses by miles. Get a real italian recipe and we might come back. The service and atmosphere was good. l guess now we know why we had no trouble getting a table on Friday night. WIth so many northerners moving down, there is bound to be someone that has a great sauce recipe..FIND THEM and we will come back. Frankie's on Morehead has better sauce and food. The amount of food for the price was not good either especially since pasta is a low cost food...A BAD EXPERIENCE ALL AROUND I AM SORRY TO SAY.

Fantastic!!!! – My husband and I joined friends back in January at Mia Famiglias. None of us had eaten there before, but we all had our "clipper coupons" and decided to give it a try. So glad we did! The atmosphere is wonderful! Gorgeous chandeliers, lots of brass, candles on the tables and the huge fireplace (which was roaring on that cold January night). The waitstaff was friendly and knowledgeable. The cocktails were expertly mixed and the food was divine! The pasta is homemade and the salads are creative and fresh. My husband had a dish that wasn't even on the menu. (The waiter asked the chef to prepare it just for him and he did)! I had a wonderful steak with mushrooms and Gorgonzola cheese. So Good!

Our second visit was our anniversary. I called and made reservations and mentioned to them that it was our special day. The waitstaff treated us like royalty. There was even a long stem rose set at my place when I was seated. The food was once again memorable and lovely.

Mia Famiglias has become my husbands and my "place". Mia Famiglias is truly a terrific restaurant and has the ability to serve up a romantic dinner, a perk up for the middle of the week, or a special function. Highly recommended!

We have since eaten at Mia Famigias several times and are planning my birthday dinner there next week.

average at best – This place has a very nice atmosphere. The attention to detail in the design of the restaurant is obvious...very nice wood, beautiful chandeliers, and the like, although the butcher paper on top of the linen tablecloths detracts from the ambience a little...I felt like we should have been given crayons instead of a wine list when we were seated.

The antipasto appetizer was pretty good, although the generic pitted black olives should have been left off the plate entirely. The menu indicated that sopressata was part of the platter; sadly, there was none to be found. The stuffed cherry peppers were excellent. Entrees were a disappointment. My girlfriend's crabcakes had no texture at all, unless you count soft and mushy (and just barely warm) as texture. The "double cut" pork chop I ordered was only double cut if you mean that the portion looked like it had been cut in half. I ordered it medium-rare and it came out well done. When I talked to the manager, he indicated that when it was being prepared he thought it looked odd, like it had been pounded out for scallopini (thanks for letting your staff serve it to me). Sides were lame as well...the sauteed spinach had great flavor, but a bit more of a portion would have been nice. Same with the roasted rosemary red potatoes...three small potatoes isn't much of a side. The asparagus my girlfriend tried tasted flat and was barely cooked, so the texture was pretty woody. They should have peeled the asparagus if they didn't plan on cooking it much.

Nice atmosphere, passable service, but I didn't perceive much value for my dining dollar. There's lots of places to go to eat around Charlotte if "average" is ok with you, and this place falls into that category. As for me, I'll keep looking for something a little better than just OK.

Great food and even better prices!! – What lovely place to dine! The wait staff was excellent and courteous. The atmosphere was very elegant but relaxed. There is a lovely water feature as you walk in and another one in the foyer. Indoor dinning plus outdoor dinning gives you some choices. There is even dinning in the balcony. They tables are draped with elegant linens and real napkins. Mahogany and chandeliers make this a wonderful place for a quiet retreat and date, but it is family friendly as well; especially in its prices. You can feed your family here for a fraction of what it would cost at Olive Garden and the food is BETTER! The raviloies are HAND MADE and to die for and the portion size is great. A small cheese pizza on the kids menus will feed two kiddos!! Warm home made bread is served with a special herb dipping sauce to start you off. Be careful you don't eat too much of the wonderful bread and then have no room for your meal!! We'll back again and again.
