Terrible service, good food – This took place at 5:30pm on Feb 13th. I wish I had gotten her name. I guess our waitress was new, or having a bad day but we had a really horrible experience with a group of friends here recently.
Here's what happened:
Made reservations for 8 people for 5:30 (when the restaurant opened.) We got to the restaurant on time and were seated. We were probably the 2nd table to be sat that night. The waitress took our drink orders and then basically never said anything about them again unless we reminded her. We had water on our table, but the alcoholic drinks, soda, tea, and anything else special never came out, even at the end of the meal. Also when we were ordering there was some issues about having individual plates of food. She said something about usually serving family style and the chefs not wanting to use as much Injera. We did end up getting the food on individual plates, and it looked great. There was plenty of extra injera on the table, so it couldn't have had anything to do with "giving us too much bread".
Finally it took about 20 minutes to get the check and when it did arrive she practically threw it at the table and ran. No chance to split the check. So we split it for her and included our 5 credit cards. When she retrieved the check we explained and she said that was fine. We then waited almost 45 minutes to get our credit cards and receipts back. Unbelievable. The person that returned our cards back to us wasn't our waitress anymore. I guess she knew how annoyed we were.
The restaurant was full by the time we were leaving, but as I said earlier we were the 2nd table to be sat, so there was plenty of time when she wasn't rushed. Perhaps it was because she was guaranteed a tip as we were a group of 8. If we weren't in a hurry we would have definitely had the tip removed.
The food, was great.
really great tasting exotic food – Had a great experience here. Food was terrific, service was excellent, environment was comfortable and eye-catching. Prices were slightly high for any lunch meal, around 14 per plate, and the portions weren't huge, but with a second helping of their injera (ethiopian bread), both myself and my date were happily stuffed.
The food was flavorful and aromatic, the meat tender, and the veggies fresh. Definitely worth trying.
