Disappoitning food tastes, nothing special. This restaurant has good reviews, so we went to try it. The atmosphere is quite nice, and we were seated in a booth, so it was cozy and the service was quite good. However, the appetizer tasted (and looked) like something we buy at Costco (ofcourse it was MUCH more expensive) and the rest of the food was also disappointing. The flavors were bland, generic and unimaginative. I admit, I had high expectations, but this was really just average eating, not fine dining or a new experience.

I think I could have made a better meal at home. Disappointing.

Really Good!. I've been to Bastone four or five times now and I've never been disappointed. This is a great place for birthday celebrations, a night on the town, or taking take out-of-town guests and in-laws. The prices are fair, the food quality is excellent (I know of one person, one time, who didn't like their meal), the alcohol and dessert selections are quality as well. Nice vibe, great for people watching, plenty of vegetarian options. I defintely recommend the potato truffle ravioli - it's one of their best dishes. After dinner, you can walk downstairs for cocktails at Cinq or next door to Vinotecca for wine and cheese. Excellent.

Great Find in Metro Detroit!!. My wife and I visited Bastone in search of something new in the Detroit area. We had been to the adjoining restaurant Cafe Habana (Cuban) and really enjoyed it and had remembered hearing about this place. It did not disappoint! We started with drinks - A beer sampler and a Bellini Martini. Neither of us had had a Bellini Martini before and found it ok. The beer sampler was well worth the 6$ - 5 in-house brewed beers and very tasty. Now for the food. We passed on the appetizer only because we wanted to save room for dessert. My wife had a Pinot Noir marinated hanger steak topped with blue cheese butter with aligote mashed potatoes and sauteed veggies. Although the steak was slightly underdone (she ordered med rare and it turned out rare) it was still VERY good - I'd rather it be underdone that overdone anyway! I had one of the specials for the night - duck breast with a pomegranate glaze with truffle mashed potatoes and sauteed veggies. The duck was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the potatoes were great. We finished the meal with a warm chocolate truffle cake with espresso ice cream - if you are a chocolate lover this is for you - AWESOME. In addition, I had asked the waitress if there was any Port wine to be had even though it was not on the wine list. She had to check and came back and said that they had Port next door at the wine bar (same owner as Bastone). For 6$ it seemed to be a very fine Ruby Port and it did not seem as though they skimped as most places do when serving Port.

The menu may suggest something fancy, but come as you are. There is something for everyone.
