Service? What service? Not Worth The Price! – In Detroit on business, asked for recommendations from locals since they know their city best. So when this place was highly touted by a few folks, I went there with a group of co-workers. We were forewarned that the place was a little pricey but worth it for the food and the view right on the riverfront. Unfortunately, the terrible service we had hardly made up for the mediocre food.
Red flags went up immediately as we walked in, the place was almost empty at peak dinner time, usually a bad indicator. But the view was nice and we got seated right by the window, plus downtown Detroit is very depressed and hardly a mecca of activities at night, so we decided to give it a chance.
The bad night started with the drink order. Took forever to get them and when they did, two of the drinks were not what were ordered. Asked for the right drinks and our waitress huffed away annoyed with no apologies. Took a long time to get them back, and in the end we found both sets of drinks on our bill! 0 for 1
Next mishap was the appetizers which we ordered but never came. When asked about it after a while, our waitress gave us the same annoyed look and walked off. Never came back to explain what happened or any kind of apology. One other irk, bread service didn't come to our table until the dinner arrived. 0 for 2
Ordered dinner while waiting for the appetizers that never came. Got our hopes up since the entrees were on the pricey side, most more than $35 and that usually means decent food. Wrong! When they arrived, two orders were stone cold, had to be sent back to be reheated, again with the annoyed look. Probably microwaved because the shellfish came back rubbery. The meats were ok, but nothing special, certainly not worth $42. 0 for 3
I travel on business quite a bit and used to pricey eats. Usually that means good service and decent food at least. This place had neither and I'd give it 0 stars if I could. Would've been better off with hotel room service.
Great View – Entering the GM Renaissance building is an experience in itself and to have a wonderful restaurant like this inside is just great. The wine list is extensive and provides a great variety. The wait staff was very attentive. The food is very good although I thought that the menu is a little limited. Ambience is definitely a draw due to great views of the city and the river/Canada.
Expensive and the food was NOT good – I was really disappointed in our experience at Seldom Blues. We went for a birthday dinner (12/07) and the food was NOT good. It was expensive and not worth the price. It was sooooo noisey from the people having dinner and eating it was difficult to hear. It made it hard to appreciate the music. The view is great but not worth the $200 dinner and music you couldn't even hear that well.
