Gourmet food at a fraction of the price!. Don't let the name fool you! This charming little gem in Ferndale is not to be missed!! The restaurant is small and quaint, (it is a diner) so you may have a wait. The turnover is pretty quick and the service is great. Don't leave and don't let the lines (on the weekends out the door) make you even think of leaving--it is so worth the wait!!! I love everything on the menu...the Huevos Rancheros are to die for..it's a large portion, so be prepared to take a doggy bag! The potatoes are exceptional! The salmon burger is extremely good, moist and a little spicy with great flavor. My husband hates salmon, but loved this burger!! The Mac N' Cheese is so creamy and delicious, you can't stop eating, even though it's a large portion. Don't forget to try the fried rice--it is spicy and so packed full of flavor and again a large portion. You will have to take some home, because the next day, it's even better reheated! Don't miss the daily specials on the chalkboard. Every meal I have ever had, even the meatloaf, would put your favorite grandmother's best cooking to shame! Don't miss the jam for your toast--homemade and so wonderful! The Fly Trap is like eating at a five star gourmet restaurant without the big bill. I have NEVER sent anyone to eat there without returning to me with a rave review. YUM! YUM! YUM!

Great Food. Reasonably Priced, Good Service in a Small Setting. I stopped by the Fly Trap in Ferndale on Dec 12, 2008 at around 3p.m. Parking was easy in a metered lot around the back of the restaurant. My visit was on a Saturday afternoon so parking was free and there was plenty of space available in the lot.

Being that it is December in Michigan it is cold (about 20 degrees) and due to the small size of the restaurant I actually had to wait outside for about 10 minutes as there was not enough room to stand inside the door. One of the main reasons this restaurant for me is not a 5 star is simply due to its lack of space. The restaurant is quaint but has seating for only about 50 people. That is with about a dozen people seated at a bar in the rear of the restaurant. That is the one thing about this that I would improve. To complicate the seating even further is that you seat yourself. You will see one person sitting alone in a booth where it would have been more practical for him to wait on seating at the bar and sit alone rather than taking up space for four. Enough on that on to the food.

We were seated after about 20 minutes. Our waitress was nice but not overly friendly. She took our drink order (coffee/hot chocolate & water) and left us to peruse the menu. The menu is a small one page flyer with simple but eclectic choices. I opted for the Huervos Rancheros. About 10 minutes after my order came a plate that I was warned would be hot (it was). The bottom of the dish had crispy home made tortilla chips with cheese on top, with a large helping of black beans on top of that. An egg over medium was next with the next layer being a fresh pico de gallo heavy on fresh tomato and lighter on cilantro. A dollop of sour cream followed with a couple of slices of jalapeno on top.

The taste was fantastic. Not too hot but just spicy enough. The taste of the pico de gallo with the black beans, sour cream and egg was special. I would not hesitate to order this again. Just expand the restaurant and keep the quality of the food!

Best Sandwich I have had in years!. Best sandwich I have had in years. Great bread, wonderful seasoning on the chicken, and the fries were perfect. I was visiting Michigan for work and now I can't wait to go back! Great food, thanks!

Great Food. There can be a wait for breakfast - so I usually go at night. This is one of those places you go to when you want something, but are not sure what just so long as it's GOOD - period. The menu is creative and everything is great. The green eggs and ham are wonderful. The potatoes are awesome. The salmon burger is tasty. They have a decent Pho. The mac-n-cheese is wonderful. The mushroom pasta is yummy. Try it all. The menu is small, but I've never not found something to eat that I did not enjoy 100%.

Better Fried Potatoes than Mom makes!. This little place is always crowded on weekend mornings, and understandably so - those fried potatoes that come with most of the breakfast dishes (and can be ordered as a side) ARE SO GOOD. They are the most garlicky things I've ever had. Roasted garlic gloves can sometimes be spotted amongst the potatoes. SO GOOD. I think they do breakfast best, although the lunch and dinner menus are pretty good. Almost always great, is the special. It changes daily, but repeats weekly - yummy.

Creative Diner Fare. The Fly Trap lives up to it's motto - it's truly a finer diner! The food is way more creative and way more delicious than your standard diner. Service is attentive, and the atmosphere is hip. The prices ... are a little more than I like to pay for diner cuisine, but since it's pretty much all made in-house, I can't complain too much!
