no longer exist, and has very bad people runing new restaurant at same location ... DO NOT GO HERE, the original restaurant is closed, the one there now is the worst...save your self time, and dont waste it there.....BAD PLACE
ok i used to work there and this is what happened..... OK TO THE FIRST PERSON WHO COMMENTED ABOUT HOW BOTH HAD TO BE OWNED BY THE SAME PERSON ... THEY WEREN'T... THE PEOPLE WERE IN THE SAME FAMILY... BUT UNCLE GIO IS REALLY UNCLE GIO (REAL PERSON) HIS NEPHEWS ON THE OTHER HAND CAME UP WITH THE MONEY AND RAN THE HARDING PLACE RESTAURANT... TECHNICALLY THEY OWNED IT. AND UNCLE GIO HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT... BUT UNCLE GIO WAS SUCH A GOOD PERSON THAT HE OFTEN WAS TOO NICE TO HIS FAMILY AND COME TO FIND OUT ... HIS BAD NEPHEWS HAD BEEN STEALING MONEY FROM CUSTOMERS AT THE HARDING PLACE RESTAURANT ... AND THEREFORE UNCLE GIO LOST BUSINESS AND HAD TO SHUT DOWN ... AND IN LEUI OF RISKING THAT HIS CUSTOMERS WOULD FIND OUT AND PUT HIM UNDER. THE OLD UNCLE GIO'S WILL NOW BE THIS DELI PLACE. I HOPE THIS HASN'T CHANGED YOUR OPINION B/C THEY WERE ALL HOME MADE RECIPES AND UNCLE GIO IS A STAND UP MAN!
Best canolli's in the south.
When they had the place at Nolensville and Harding where the old Shoney's used to be. They did have some problems there, but I never could understand why they shut the doors. Several of us ate there at least 3 times a week. The spagetti was sometimes over cooked but not always, and when they got the hand made pizza it was out of this world. The servers we always had were great and would apologize if something wasn't out or right.
We tried the one further out on Nolensville Rd a couple of times and would have gone back but several weeks ago we happened to stop in only to find that they were under rentavation or so we thought. So we went back by only to find that the phone had been cut off and noone seems to know what happened to them. Being Italian and also being from up North I found it to be very good. I guess if they don't reopen I'll have to start going back over to Ceasar's on White Bridge Rd, which isn't to close this was very close for me since I live in the South Nashville area. I hate they went out of business but wish someone would open up another Italian Resturant somewhere on Nolensville Rd there are too many Mexican Resturants in the South Nashville area. We need a little more to choose from. Hope they open up somewhere else cause I will return. Deborah
stay away from this place........ terrible food.........maybe in New York Hungry but not Nashville. The worst service, the poorest quality food, bad advertising, misleading....resturant is now shut under the premise of renovation yet is less than 2 years old...my guess is their bad rep caught up with them....food is overpriced, over cooked, tasteless, too salty, bad tomato sauce........if there were a lower score than one star, they would deserve it.......
Great Pizza. I visited Uncle Gio's for the first time last week on a Wed night. The waiter was very friendly. Complimetary bread was served and the food wait was average. We got the Sicillian Pizza and thought it was huge and delicious. There was plenty leftover after we were done too. The price was great for the amount of food we got and the taste. I would definitely go back again.
Avoid this place!. Thinking this would be authentic pizza and a fun new place to try, my husband and I took our kids for Friday night pizza. After looking over the menu and deciding on the pizza we wanted, the waiter kindly (couldn't he have told us before we sat down??) that pizza would take over one hour to be served. Wasn't this a pizza place? He said that due to delivery orders and people already in the restaurant, there was no way they could get the pizza to us any sooner. Imagine explaining that to our two hungry kids! We left and will not go back. If they can't handle the pizza orders, either hire some more cooks or install some more ovens! Or at least advertise correctly...we won't go back. Sorry Gio.
I believe the comments by unclegiosmgmt on 1/3/08 are a bit misleading. He refers to the other location as having different management and a different location. However, the two entities are obviously owned by
the same family. A Tennessean article on 10/24/07 is headlined "Uncle Gio's opens second location", and makes it clear that they are owned by the same family. They may have built a corporate firewall between the two restaurants to protect themselves, but it is dishonest to pretend that they have no connection whatsoever with the second location. I also just noticed a fraudulent charge on my statement. It would be smart for "unclegiosmgmt" to do the right thing before their name is permanently ruined. I would have considered going to their remaining location, but not now.
Re: Comment by Hankhound. Statement from Uncle Gio's Management: The Uncle Gio's location at 6448 Nolensville Road is not the same Uncle Gio's that was at 401 Harding Place and called Uncle's Gio's Italian Buffet. That location is closed and was under different management and was a separate corporation from Uncle Gio's at 6448 Nolensville Road. We have a few calls in regards to credit card charges from that business and have explained this to the callers, and as per credit card company regulations referred them back to their credit card companies to seek further action. We have never turned away a customer from our location at 6448 Nolensville Road that has been overcharged or double charged. We believe the comment posted by Hankhound is not only inaccurate, but slanderous towards our business as we have not had ANY recent credit card issues at the 6448 Nolensville Road location. Additionally, we have not turned anyone away for credit card issues at this location. We encourage anyone to always ask for a manager if you have any questions or concerns and we will be happy to assist.
Love, Love, Love Uncle Gio's!!!!!. Nashville has some great restaurants! My friend told me about this place right before Nolensville, called Uncle Gio's....I went and all I can say is unbelievable! The food was incredible and the service was on point. The manager stopped by my table, and I talked to him for a little bit. Uncle Gio and his family run the place, so they make sure that everything is up to thier familys standards! I had the baked penne and sauteed calamari. It was the best calamari I have ever had! I told my mom about this place and she went on my dad's birthday. The server made a beautiful desert and they even sang Happy Birthday in Italian! Great job guys! I hope you stick around for a long long time!
Just like home!.
Coming here from Atlanta (originally from NY) we had tried several Italian restaurants in Nashville including Amerigo's, Demos, Mafioso's...pretty mediocre.
We've eaten at Uncle Gio's several times in the last few months.....the food is always great (it's all about the sauce) and the pizza and calzones are the best in town. Vibe wise, it has that family Little Italy charm - there really is an Uncle Gio
We know fresh cooked food takes time......it's true when it's busy it may take a while, but have a glass of vino and relax....it will be worth the wait. We'll be regulars.
