Not sure if all the commotion on here is just from people who were looking to get more than they were due for items they were trying to sell, or they were just bitter and not personable
If you're willing to drive 6 hours to a location to try and sell thousands of old comics at least have the common courtesy to call ahead and see if they have any requirements (like, oh, i dunno, cataloging?)
I went into the store for the first time today, The 3 guys working there were all happy to chat about gaming and what they are all into, and one of them even took the time to have a game of Warhammer Fantasy with me, he was a nice guy and it was a fun game. At no point was I ever pressured to buy anything and they have a great stock of wargaming, boardgames and RPGing books.
Definitely recommending this store community seems nice.
horrible comic shop, I am looking to sell my comic collection. l live about 6 hours away and was willing to take a day off to load them up and take to them to see what was offered and chris told me they wouldn't even look at them if I didn't first send them a catalog list of all the comics. sorry place and sorry customer service. I feel sorry for anybody that has to shop there. that place is a pos.
Grand Adventures – This guy shouldn't be in Comics. When you walk in, all he's got is gaming, gaming, gaming. He shouldn't even be a comic store. Does he have comics? some, but not what you would call old.Sure he's got the newer issues. But, that's it. Oh! Yea! If you want to try to sell your comics, better forget it. You would get what your looking for. I told you, and yes I'll say it again. Gaming, Tsr, Warcraft . Stuff like that.
Wrote this review as a counterpoint to Rainne's "review" – Honestly, I think Rainne may work for some of the local competition. Grand Adventures still sells several DnD products, from Player's handbooks and monster manuals, to DM screens, dice, miniatures, and even some of the prefab dnd board games. Furthermore, the store has a DnD night once a week, on wednesdays I believe, where reps come from wizards of the coast come to host the game. While there is no disputing the fact that the store caters mostly to the warhammer crowd, they have a decent selection of non typical board and card games, all of which are at 20% off the list price! They also have a large selection of comics/graphic novels, action figures, and trading cards.
As far as customer service goes, both employees I have dealt with have been very inviting, completely willing to answer any questions I have to the best of their ability, and even have gone so far as to sit my friend and I down to teach us how to play a game we were interested in. After only the first or second visit, both employees now recognize us and talk with us whenever we stop by. Honestly, my only real gripe is that they could have a bigger selection of non warhammer based games.
No longer sells D&D, caters to Warhammer-style exclusively. – Has completely quit carrying D&D stuff, and now caters entirely to the Warhammer style games. Doesn't even seem to have D&D minis or anything any more. Was also very condescending when I asked about it.
He says he stopped carrying D&D because the players didn't come buy stuff from his store, but here's the thing - I'd been in there looking for D&D stuff before he stopped carrying. Even then, his selection was extremely limited and very high priced. If you want people to come buy stuff, you have to 1) have stuff for them to buy and 2) price it reasonably.
In the future I will do all my gaming purchases in Nashville at The Game Keep.
My Opinion for What it is Worth – Well, not to sound contrary to other posts, but it does sound pretty farfetched. I have been a regular for some time at this store, and after discovering this review, I have had to chime in with my .02. I have found the staff to be personable and suitably geeky. This is no slight on them, and in truth, they happen to have the cleanest and most professional store I have ever frequented. The "geekiness" is in their knowledge, enthusiasm and readiness to accept others. In their 3+ years, they have grown from a tolerable endeavor, to the mecca for gaming in the Middle TN area. Whether it be heroclix, Warhammer, Confrontation or any other game they carry (sorry, no MTG) the staff supports it all the way. True, I had to wait for special orders over the years, but the shop has grown to be incredibly well stocked, and has nearly everything I want. If nothing else, the community has been so inviting, that a few stumbling blocks were more than tolerable. So, for any vindictive and solitary posters out there, I'd recommend spending your efforts in a positive and above all ACCURATE manner. Oh, and BTW, I happen to know for a fact that Grant hasn't worked a Monday in about a year and half. I think his wife won't let him. :) JK. But seriously, let's all try and live and support our stores with an ounce of grace. Thanks for reading, and as tdove pointed out, we all have our own opinions and experiences. If nothing else, you should check it out to form your own opinion. They can take it.
toran_alexander is a bald-faced liar. – Let's take this person's allegations point-by-point. #1 - Grant's "rudeness" - he is a civil person, polite even in the face of heavy provocation; he prides himself on pleasant customer service and helping anyone who come through the door. #2 - "very expensive" - I don't know what kind of expectations this person has, but the prices in the store are retail-standard, and 20% off comics for boxholders (30% off backstock). #3 - "wouldn't serve her because she's female" - utter bullpuckey; there are several regular female customers who enjoy the shop's benefits. #4 - "ballistic about going to OL" - it is to laugh. If GA can't get the item you want, or you'd rather go somewhere else for your business, Grant doesn't care; he'd LIKE to have the business, but in the end it's the customer's choice.
Now, let's take the outright lie. "She" says that she came in for a box on Monday and talked to Grant; well, that'd be impossible, since someone else works the store Mondays. The two couldn't look more different, so it's not like one could be mistaken for the other.
Grand Adventures is a great store, with excellent staff who are willing to bend over backwards to satisfy whatever need you might have. Come in, see for yourself, and judge who you believe more.
Terrible Customer Service!!! Stay AWAY!!! – Ok people, listen. This place is totally terrible!!! The guy who thinks he owns the store is TOTALLY RUDE!!! If you are not up to his standards or if you do not like what he likes, then you might as wall forget about ever being welcome. HE IS VERY EXPENSIVE!!!! I went in on a Monday afternoon and asked about getting a "HOLD BOX" for myself. GRANT basically told me that it was a waste of my time since I was a woman!!! Can you believe the nerve of that creep!!! I had a list of comic books that I was willing to buy and some that I wanted to put in my hold box. BUT, since I am a WOMAN I could not possibly understand comic books!!! YEAH RIGHT!!! Sooo, I went to OUTER LIMITS. My husband then went in on a Thursday and when Grant found out that he had been going to OUTER LIMITS, Grant went ballistic!!! He told my husband that if he was going to shop at his store he had no right to go to OUTER LIMITS!!! Something about STORE LOYALTY!!! This is the first time my husband had went into this store. Now my husband is a big kid, he does not need someone telling him what to do or holding his hand to the bathroom. I honestly believe that there is some stuff going on in the office that only certain people are privy to. BEWARE: STAY AWAY!!! GO TO OUTER LIMITS... The owner and employees are totally nice. PLUS, they are not expensive!!!
