Old time grocery delivery – I moved to the quarter about a year ago now and the guys at mattassas have literally saved my life on more than one occasion already. Delivery thru the flu, colds, week long migraines, and even the occasional old fashioned pitty party makes these guys my heros! I live in a very hard to get to apt too and they come right up to the door and do all the heavy work for me. I can't imagine what life would be like without them. I love this place!
Out of your way to be rude – I think jaithyme1 has said it the best way you can. I was also told by the owners daughter/grand daughter to go somewhere else. I'm a local and have been shopping there for 15 years. I spend a couple of hundred a week on food and groceries. Rouses appreciates me.
The other people there are nice. I will go there if I know she isn't there.
The place needs a make over for sure. The owners are very rich and can afford to put some money back into the store. A new shelf or cooler every 10 years isn't cutting it.
This place use to be cool.
Nevermore – once a charming family owned business, this once well-respected institution has degenerated into a slop shop with sassy unresponsive personnel who, sadly, include family members. in response to a complaint, your writer (who has been in the quarter since the store was a corner grocery and a bar room) was told to shop elsewhere by the grand-daughter of the original owner, a woman called nia. with the new rouse's at st. peter and royal going overboard to be customer-friendly, it is surprising that matassa's cares so little. no problem, though. i can shop elsewhere. so many of my neighbors have decided to do so, anyway. after going bankrupt once, i suppose it doesn't bother them to do it, again!
Great People – I live is a small town that does not deliver groceries to your doorstep, so imagine my suprise to find that this t-tiny market in the heart of the quarter has a bicke delivery man. Now the store is very tiny but anything you need you can find. Wonderful selections of meats as well.
