I LOVE THIS PLACE – I first read about Donna's in the New York Times, a great article that made me 'have' to go and see for myself. I wasn't disappointed. Donna's is small so get there early if you want a seat, it's nothing fancy, but the music and people are great. Though some tourists have discovered it, it's mostly locals of all ages and backgrounds. Don't let it's dive appearance fool you, you'll have a great time and hear some of the best music New Orleans has to offer. I never go to New Orleans without at least one trip to Donna's.
This funky neighborhood mainstay on the outskirts of the French Quarter serves as brass band headquarters. – In Short
This is the place to go for brass, from traditional to modern. It has been instrumental in the revival of interest in the brass band tradition (think of a marching band that plays serious jazz and funk). Local stalwart Bob French holds court every Monday. The rest of the week, you'll find traditional brass acts mixed with more modern ensembles such as All That or Egg Yolk Jubilee. They also serve barbecue, an integral part of the experience.
